I agree that a separate board should be created for those that have read and want to discuss HP7, The Deathly Hallows. I hope it's okay to create this thread.
This is your last chance. If you have NOT read The Deathly Hallows, then please leave so you don't spoil it for yourself =)

Okay, now that we can safely talk about and spoil Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I'm going to say my piece.
First I have to say that it feels good to talk about it because everyone I know is still reading the book lol
What predictions did you make prior to the book's release? Were they right or wrong?
I predicted that Snape would turn out to be a good guy. Everyone called me crazy because I always said that Snape was in fact and should be trusted. I had a feeling that Dumbledore's death was his own choice.
I also believed after reaidng The Half Blood Prince that Harry was a Horcrux. So I was right on that one as well.
I also predicted that Harry would die. So I was half right lol I'm glad he didn't die. I didn't want him to but I thought he would.
The prediction I made that was wrong was that I said I thought Neville would be killed off after avenging his parents and killing Bellatrix. Oh well. That's okay actually. I like Neville a lot.
Fred's death made me cry. I read it about 8 times before it sunk in. Ditto Lupin and Tonks. Snape's death was the worst for me. My poor snapey poor lol

I think I was most broken up by Fred's death! I knew a Weasley would go down, but why did it have to be poor Fred?! What did Fred ever do to anybody? It's totally not fair. Now, I'm a raging Fred & George fangirl so I was pretty upset. crying
Also, Lupin. Lupin is in my top 5 characters. I think it was unfair how Lupin & Tonks were killed with no explanation about how they died. I wouldn't mind their deaths so much if we had had some explanation. They can't just poof and be dead, I want to know how.
But you're right, Snape's was really heartbreaking. He didn't deserve to die in such a dirty way. Poor Snape never got any love, everyone thought he was an evil louse, nobody liked him except for the lowest members of society, and that was a superficial "like" at best. He must have lived a very miserable existence. Poor Snape! I was not a huge Snape fan beforehand, but now I am definitely a Snape fangirl!
As for predictions, I didn't think Harry would die. When someone asked me why, I said "Ginny has to marry somebody!" Haha, silly, but that was my whole explanation. I also didn't think she would kill off her main character. I know she has said that she will not write any more Harry Potter books, but I'm not convinced that she won't change her mind. I figured Harry was a Horcrux, but I also figured that would work out somehow. Concerning Snape, I wasn't fully converted to the "Snape is good" camp, though I was pretty much converted to the "Snape loved Lily" camp. I would have been very disappointed if Snape was just pure evil and had no sweet side. Life isn't black and white and I would have been miserable if she had made Snape such a monochromatic character.
I thought the book moved way too fast. It seemed to leave out a lot of detail that I was aching for. Some of my friends though said it was slow and boring in some parts, I totally disagree. I thought it moved reallllly fast and could have been a much longer book if things had moved at a proper pace.
I really thought that Hagrid would get killed off, but I"m glad he didn't. Neville, I love Neville! I thought he had it a few times, but I"m glad he made it through. I wonder who he ended up with, though? Luna?

I was so angered by that little epilogue. First off, everyone gets their own happy little endings, but where was Luna? And Severus?!? SEVERUS?!? Where was little Sirius? It was totally unnecessary, I thought the ending was a great way to end the story, it really did not need the epilogue.
I was mad they killed both Lupin and Tonks though I was more upset that she was there in the first place, for much the same reason that Harry didn't want Lupin to offer his protection on Dumbledore's mission. She was a new mom, and she left her baby to go fight in a battle that she knew would very likely kill both her husband and the babies godfather. She had a responsibility to that baby.
Hedwig, poor dear. She's looked up for weeks and then, when she finally is going to get the chance to fly free, she gets toasted. cry
I loved Kretcher, and Dobby crying I think Dobby's death was the worst, I was bawling.
I'd pretty much worked out the whole Snape good=kill Dumbledore as a mutual agreement thing but I had not realized it was because Dumbledore was already dying, I thought it was something he had to do. Snape knew Harry had to kill Voldemort and Dumbledore said once that Harry will always be safe as long as I'm here. I knew Snape would die and only then would Harry find out Snape's true feelings.
Percy's return was too rushed. Why bring him back and then not take some advantage of it.
Also, I would have loved something with Myrtel, either in the bathroom or fighting alongside Peeve's. I loved the reaction of everybody in Hogwarts. Aberfoth's goat - hilarious. Trelawny's crystal balls - priceless. And I love, love, LOVED al the tellings of there trials and misery on their quest. The anger and frustration worsened by the solitude, hunger and the locket. Beautifully told.
I think Hagrid is part cat.
All-in-all I loved it heart 3nodding heart biggrin heart

I think what erked me the most was the death of Fred. Fred and George where some of my fav. charature through out the entire series. It just doesn't seem right with me that one of them is gone.
But really over all I can't say I have any complaints about the book as a whole, sure little parts annoyed me, but I got over them and continued reading like a good little book worm that I am.

Fred and Severus were two of my favorite characters. So definitely took their deaths hard as mentioned.
I too was upset with the small epilogue. I did like what Harry said to little Albus Severus about what if he gets into Slytherin. I wanted to know what happened to George, Hagrid, Luna, etc. Who did Neville marry? Anything besides just the fact that he was the herbology teacher.
To be honest, when Percy was brought back, I was kind of hoping that she'd kill him off. There was no point to bring him back for that small part. He should have died instead of Fred lol
Also, call me crazy but I could have sworn that Rowling said we'd learn the importance of Harry having Lily's eyes. I didn't read anything about that. Did I somehow miss that? And I remember her saying something about a whole new fact that we learn about Lily. Was that just that she had been friends with Snape? I felt like I was missing a few things. Maybe she just took them out.
I still love it though. Nothing will change that =)

I guess it is one of the reasons Snape can't stand Harry, he can't stand to look at him because he reminds him both of what he lost (Lily) and who he lost her to (James). It would make me a little sick, too, I guess. Poor Snape! Actually, there's a song from the musical The Secret Garden called "Lily's Eyes" or something, and it's a song about how the hunchback guy can't look at his niece because she has the eyes of his dead wife who he misses so much..., and I always recall that song when I think of Harry & Snape. I suppose it's just a coincidence that it fits Harry Potter so well. Here's the lyrics

I'm somewhat busy today, so I'll be brief...loved the book! Am I the only one who thought that the "Deathly Hallows" were the Horcruxes? And Harry was a Horcrux? WOW. I had suspected that Dumbledore ordered Snape to kill him, but the whole Lily/Snape plot hadn't crossed my mind and was genuinely surprised!
My favorite part of the book was probably the breakout of Gringotts bank. Every time someone asked the trio "was the story true?" I burst out laughing. The deaths of Dobby and Fred affected me the most, and I breathed an audible sigh of relief when, after the motorcycle crash, Mr. Tonks reported that Hagrid was allright.
Some folks were disappointed in the "19 years after" epilogue, but I feel that we already know what careers our friends pursue after Hogwarts. That, and JK Rowling has stated she plans on writing an encyclopedia of sorts of the wizarding world, and most of our questions should be answered. I'm just glad our three friends got through their adventure alive, and are living happily in peace.

One of the first musicals I saw on stage was The Secret Garden and I used to listen to that cd every night. Around book 3, whenever someone mentioned Harry's eyes, I'd think of that song. I love that song =)

I'm just glad our three friends got through their adventure alive, and are living happily in peace. Ok so here's my take.... I actually thought that the Hallows were going to be the final battle grounds between Voldemort and Harry and the whole Harry/Horcrux thing really took me by surprise!!!...and at the beginning I didn't like the things that were hinted about Dumbledore but then I felt really sorry for him after learning the whole truth...
As for Snape...I suspected from the 6th book that some kind of wierd love triangle was going on between Lily him and James...he died a very dirty death which made me sad of course.
I didn't think that Rowling would kill off the owl!!! I mean really what did she have against poor Hedwig??...and me and my friend have decided that the 50+ body count by the end was the result of Rowling going through a case of severe PMS while she was writing it. Of course the whole Dobby chapter made me tear up as well as the fact that poor Teddy became an orphan at the end! (I loved Lupin and Sirius) and there were points in the book where I honestly thought that Ron was going to die too. I am really glad that she did end up killing Harry but then making him come back because it wouldn't have been right to leave him dead.
I liked the epilogue because it was a bit cheesy but it gave a happy ending to mostly everyone and pretty much left things to the imagination about the future of Hogwarts...besides who didn't think that little Albus Severus Potter O_o wasn't the cutest little kid ever!!!! (I just wanna poke him!!!)

I didn't think Ron would die before I read the book, but as I read I thought she was going to kill him. Actually when he left and Harry was watching for his footsteps that never appeared, I was convinced he had been killed trying to get home.

And as an aside, what were some of your favorite quotes from Deathly Hallows? I can't quote directly, but it has something to do with "Your Holiness" (meaning George of course) and the Lee Jordan "Potterwatch" show... rofl
