I am a goth. Ok, since I'm here I'm sure we have already established that. Most of my friends accept that since they, while not goth, like some parts of the culture. But I have one friend who makes me want to boil her alive because of her biased, TV stereotyped opinion.
This friend (whom we will call 'C') is open minded. She doesn't like some stuff, but doesn't put it down either. One day before school let out for summer, I took in a book many would consider 'Gothic' reading material. C walked up to me and asked, "What the hell are you reading that for? You're not Goth!" I looked up at her and politely explained to her I am. C retaliated by putting out a list of everything you need to be 'Goth'.
1) You must love the dark. (I do) 2) Your hair must be dyed a freaky color and in a weird style. (I just got my hair done like that after she left, but because I needed it cut.) 3) You must hate anything happy and pink and nice (WTF? Where'd that come from?) 4)You must wear disturbing all black clothes and have body piercings and all black make up(No you don't) 5)You must hate all humanity (I do, but for a good reason, and only bad people) 6) You must do drugs (Um, why?) 7)You have to listen to 'burn-down-the-world' hardcore, metal music and anything mentioning suicide (ok, this is getting out of hand...) And here's the kicker- 7) If you are a virgin, you are not a goth! ^_^ (...........................)
After she was done, we sat in silence for a minute, then i hit her over the head with my HARDCOVER book and walked away.
Reactions, opinions, any form of feedback is nice.

Ummm... good job?
Although most goths try to be pacifists, I believe that your actions had just cause, and I believe that maybe a kick in the spleen might have been covered under 'just cause' as well.
I would also seriously consider coming at her with a list of things that she was wrong about, and also a list of things why humanity is horrible, and the society, and the tv she seems to be so infatuated with is taking away the only thing that makes her an individual.

Exactly. I didn't hit her too hard, so she lived. I'm normally very docile for my family background. I forgot one thing, so check back in about 50 seconds to see another thing she 'noted' about the Gothic sub-culture.

Man I hate people like that. It really sucks when they are friends. I'd suggest trying to educate her, but it doesn't sound like she wants to listen. Perhaps you could counter with stereotypes about "normal" people.

Perhaps you could counter with stereotypes about "normal" people. I think you've stumbled onto something there. C is currently in another state visiting her mom for the summer, so I'll try that approach when she gets back.

Well, probably not the best-handled solution. If you ever see her again, I would recommend apologizing for that, though explaining why you got steamed enough to do it. Then explain the reasons why she was wrong to point out stereotypes.

Ask her how black clothing is disturbing.
Moreover, ask her how any clothing is "disturbing".
And then, since when was your sexual status anything to do with being goth?
That aside, don't let it bother you. Don't physically accost her with your reading material either. I highly doubt that helps the situation at all.

Well, normally I am very passive and don't like harming books or people, but when she said that I just felt that she had to learn a lesson. To be blunt, she's a 'gangsta posa' (her saying, not mine!) who says she's not one minute, but admits it the next. She's wrong about most of the stuff she talks about, she text talks in real life conversations (how I don't know), and she will constantly talk about her love life with a girl who hates her to no end, but won't let me talk about my boyfriend. And if she hits me too hard by accident on the shoulder, which she often does, and I poke her back, she complains that I hurt her. She also doesn't understand what it means to not be an only child. She expects me to drop everything and go hang out with her when she knows I am the only one watching my 3 year old brother. To make things worse, the next day she stole my dark brown lipstick out of my purse while I was in the lunch line and threw it away. ("It was a nasty color" she said). She also tried to steal my book to get rid of it. I practically had to threaten to BITE her to get her to stop. Not one of my proudest moments, but it got the job done.......

Wow. That's.... too much.
Just go about your daily business and ignore her, I guess. I wouldn't. I'd be all up ons with "What are you, retarded?" and "Where the hell did you hear all this crap, you idiot?" but that's not really a good way to go about it. So ignore.

for future referance, you can inflict pain more with a softcover book. Strike them a corner of the binding. ruins the book and leaves a dam sizable dent in their head.
