My little fictitious bargain inspired me to make a thread about bargains IRL and on Gaia.
Growing up my father was a blue collar worker, so between my three brothers and I there wasn't always a ton of money floating around to spend on clothes. My mother and I are notorious for scavenging the depths of the 75% off bins for the hidden gold mines of cute clothing (and that takes a lot of searching through the sea of icky puke green sweaters that are 12 sizes too big).
My Gaia conquest was a phoenix circlet, which normally go for around 23,000-25,000 gaia gold. Well I saw one up in the market place with a bid circa 200-300 gold starting and a day left to bid. So I bid 900-ish gold, thinking that within an hour I'd be outbid.
Well an hour later I got a message saying my bid was accepted, even though the person had a good day still left to get a better offer. I'm really excited because I got the item incredibly cheap!
What are you stories of conquest in commercialism? How have you made your dollars stretch via bargain hunting?

I tend to be very frugal. I admit, I often get pretty decent deals on things since I tend to be poor. I don't remember if it's the best deal I've ever gotten but it was pretty nerfly all the same. There was a local comic store that happened to have a few original cels from Evangelion. I stopped in by chance on the way to a Robyn Hitchcock concert. Anywho apperently nobody wanted them so they had been marked down several times to around $50 each. They had six and I could only pic up four, but I managed to get really nice frames of Misato, Ritsuko, Kaworu, and the highlight . . . REI BLUSHING!!! heart heart heart heart heart

Oh, I'm totally a bargain shopper. I love to shop sale racks at department stores, you can get stuff there cheaper than Goodwill! Cheaper than Wal*Mart! Seriously... I mostly shop department stores and I've rarely ever paid more than $10 for a shirt... usually I can pick them up for $6.00! Even $40 sweatshirts go on sale for $14 eventually. =3
I love dresses, and I am always buying them... >_> But I love it when I get $100+ dresses for $20 or less.... which is a very frequent occurance. You just have to wait for the sale, just wait and you'll be able to get a bargain. =3
I pretty much won't buy something if it's not on sale.
As for anime, RightStuf.com has awesome weekly sales. I've picked up a $200 box set for $30. =)

So True Nessa, a good time is post prom season. I got my prom dress for 40$, it was originally 120$. Mostly I went to prom because I found an affordable dress and wanted to wear it.
There's this fab shop in Columbia MO that has gorgeous dresses for really reasonable. The one year I got a formal, formal dress for 30$ and the next another bargain dress. I'll ave to import pictures of the one sometime. The funny thing was this shop was just two stores down from a formal dress shop where they were charging $500 (that's right) for ugly creations plastered with sequins.
I also have an obsession with cheap jewelry. No one's ever gotten close enough to realize it's cubic zirconias not diamonds. Generally I see cuter designs in costume jewelry than in the expensive stuff. A rock on a string of metal seems rather uninspired to me.
I also have a weakness for discounted DVDs and generic snack foods. It makes the occasional "treating yourself" feel less frivolous. Watching a five dollar copy of the Princess Bride while eating $2 potato chips is way cheaper than going to the movies and getting the jumbo popcorn.
And Chibi that's incredible! I'm excited Best Buy stores are beginning to sell cheap complete seasons. I got Outlaw Star-Bilingual- complete series for 30-40$, and Walmart had the first season of Inu Yasha for 40 (sadly, not bilingual...). My dream is that Sailor Moon may someday be that cheap, so far it still seems to be around a hundred bucks for a full season (and there are a lot of series...)

I got all of Paranoia Agent, Niea, Mini-Goddess, Fafner, Bottle Fairy, Magical Project S, Appleseed and a few others for less than what the Paanoia Agent is alone (and I had been holding out for tht one). It's also nice because they are the commercial dvds not the promo, test copies like when ADV does their 75% off sale. Not that I mind the promo, but it's nice because if I'm not thrilled with the series or I just run out of room, they have resale value smile

Yes and no for me. I try to be frugal on everything, but one or two things tend to cause me to not care too much.
But mostly I can found shopping at Wal-Mart, mostly in the clearance sections, but my best deal was at Hot-Topic a few years back. There was this white lace and fake velvet dress that I wanted since the first time I saw it. But it cost me, at the time, just about a whole paycheck to afford. So I just kinda gave up on ever buying it, because every time I would go back when I finally saved up enough money the one I wanted was out of stock. Then like that next two or so months later (yes something sigh of a year I was eyeing this dress) I was just roaming the clearance rack at Hot Topic and came across said dress, marked down to around $90 bucks from from the $150 it cost originally. I put the dress back thinking I would get it next pay time. Never made it back tukk that next month or so when I went back up there with some friends from SWIC and found that same dress for like $12. I diffantly got it then.
I also love places like Goodwill and the Salvation Army just to look for things for gifts for people. My grandma for example collects ducks. The Goodwill the Glen Carbon always had some so it made shopping for her easy.

well let's see here. i'm always checkinh bargain outlets and goodwill stores for the best deals. i found an entire living room set for $175. i've found designer clothing for like $5. and i love buying used cds. we have a place here in erie called cd warehouse, where people bring in their used cds for money. i've found many rare imports for over 60% off their price new. they also sell used games and dvds. usually i pick up like 9 cds for less than $40. which is nice because if you pay for 5 you get one free, pay for 6, get two free, etc.

Most of the used CD shops around here... you may as well just buy the CD new, because they don't mark them down enough to make buying a used one worthwhile. If something is kinda dusty or the case is scratched up or the notes are faded... I don't wanna pay $10 for it, you know? I would like to get a deal like that! biggrin I'm kinda a**l about keeping my CDs in mint condition and I hate old dirty cases and cracks and things when they are used.... so unless it's cheap, I'm not interested. As for furniture, that's good too! I don't have a need to buy furniture, but I've seen great deals on furniture at tag sales and yard sales. I'm a heavy Tag Sale / Auction / Flea Market / Yard Sale / Antique Shop attendee. I've found collectibles for cheap too. I just dance with excitement when I find an old antique for pennies. Mostly I collect dolls, so when I get a $100+ doll for $5 or something, it makes life worthwhile. xD

If I need to get something I usually check the prices online to see who has a better deal. I like saving money.
Here in Gaia, I check the marketplace and if I see a good deal on a sealed for the current month, I pick one up. I only actually buy 1 a month with money because I need to keep to my budget. Gaia is part of entertainment expenses.

Slackers is a wonderful store. lol At goodwill I managed to get a dining room table and 4 chairs, solid oak for like $350, I had forgotten about that one. Mostly because I later gave the set to a friend who was getting her own place...lol

I am a very big bargin hunter. My dad came from a penny-pincher family and my mom's family was always having to save every penny they got because her dad never made too much money. Now I'm very big on saving money and worry if I ever spend more than $100 in a single purchase. Same is here on Gaia. I think the best deal I got was on these jeans I'm wearing. I got them for around 900 gold or so. I also get a lot of my items (in real life and on Gaia) from friends and family members. Some times in real life I even get a lot from thrift stores. They're wonderful! And I even make my own clothes. 3nodding

That's awesome.
I haven't had much luck in the Marketplace, myself. xd
In real life I'm frugal. Some would even call me cheap. But the way I see it, it makes no sense to pay $50 for something I can get for $10 in another place.

I am forever scouring bargain bins. My family was pretty poor when I was growing up and not a whole loit has changed I'm afraid.
I buy most of my clothes at Mervyn's or Wal-mart. I'm known for going to their clearance racks with $100 and buying about 7 shirts, a bra and 3 or 4 pants. So not too bad =)
I buy most of my dvd's, books and music secondhand. Love used bookstores, blockbuster sales, library sales, goodwill and other thrifty places.
But my best bargain splurges have to do with makeup. I am a self proclaimed eyeshadow whore. Pretty colors for your eyes make me happy. And I adore the comapnies Hard Candy and Urban Decay. But I can't afford the $16 for one eyeshadow. So I discovered TJ Max. I went there a few months ago and spent $25. With that I bought three lipglosses from Hard Candy, two eyeshadows (one from Hard Candy and one from Urban Decay), one mascara (HC) and one blush (HC). Normally the retil cost of all that I bought would have been $182+ I was super thrilled.

Thats pretty cool ^...
Well I got a story about a good bargain... You know how during high school prom all the girls go buying their prom dresses and end up spending up to 1k or more for a dress that they probably won't wear ever again right?...So my family aren't the richest people in the world either and I didn't want to spend too much on a dress.. Well my friend told me about a place in Newark NJ where around the beginning of prom season dresses got donated by people for other people to take and most of them were absolutely free and cleaned 3nodding ..The highest price I saw was about 60 dollars..I think and they were really nice designer dresses so we each ended up taking a dress and we looked absolutely fabulous in them at the prom 3nodding It was the best deal I ever got.
