This is the PM I just received. I reported it what do you all think?

Message Concerning: Hacking Report #247395019

Attention Gaia User,
You have been reported by a fellow Gaia member. In this report they state that you had hacked them. Hacking is strictly prohibited by the Gaia ToS. As you know, we here at Gaia enforce these rules to the fullest, and that’s why we are writing to you today. If you are innocent you don’t have anything to worry about, but if you are guilty your account is potentially at risk. If you cooperate with us and are found guilty, you will only receive a short suspension from our site, but you will be able to log-on again in 2-3 days. If you do not cooperate and are found guilty you will lose all rights to your account and be permanently banned from our site. Not only will you lose your account you will lose the privilege of viewing out site due a full force banning which will include your ip address.
If you are willing to cooperate and make this a smooth process we require you to send us the following that is asked. In doing so you will ensure no matter what you status (guilty or not) you will be back on Gaia in no time. Failure to compile will jeopardize your entire account for good.

Please send the following in its original form:
[UN]Username:
[PW]Password:

*We ask that upon receiving this message you cease all Gaia action but to reply back to us. Any and all activity preformed after this message is sent will tamper with the evidence making it very hard to prove your innocence. We suggested that you do not: Trade, PM, Post ,Add/Remove friends, and anything else along those line that could build a negative case against you. After sending the a correct reply to this message you will have to sign-out for 5 minuets for the scanning process. The scanning process just checks all of your trades for same ip addresses and anything else out of the ordinary. Thank You for your time,
Gaia Administrators

The mods tell you they never need your password. Also the color of their user id is a different color. It is never black.

I've received something like that before. Completely infuriating, hackers sending messages saying you've been accused of hacked. What saddens me is some of the younger members of the site have fallen for those scams.

Saddest of all-- people hacking to steal virtual currency and pixel-ated items.

Typical hackers trying to scam decent Gaians into giving up their username and password. I hate that. I've gotten several of those kind of messages usually after visiting the Towns and chatting with people. Sometimes I wonder if that is where Hackers pickup my name and then think I'm some little 10 year old whose dumb enough to give up the answers. I had a student, who is also on Gaia, she thought it was a Gaian Admin and actually gave out the information. She lost everything. When she told me about this I told her not to do that again and to just report any email from people who ask any personal information about her. I felt really terrible and didn't know what else to do for her. I hate hackers! twisted

The Mods of Gaia have made it clear that they never need an accounts password. The color of their user ID is a different color than regular Gaians, and it never black. The sadly interesting concept is that people are hacking to steal virtual currency and pixels items. This is supposedly a gaming website, none of it is serious, and its to be fun.

Hi, everybody!

Recently, security concerns have come about due to Gaians using the same usernames and passwords on multiple sites.

Everyone knows it's much easier to use the same password for every site you visit. Who wants to remember dozens of different passwords? Unfortunately, using the same password everywhere is very dangerous: if somebody finds out one of your passwords, they know them all!

No matter how good we make Gaia's security, your account can only be as safe as you make it. If you take the following steps, you should have nothing to worry about:

* Use a different password for Gaia than you use for other sites. If another site gets hacked and you use the same password there as on Gaia, your account might be compromised.

* If you've used your Gaia password to register for other sites, change your password right away!

* Use a complicated password with letters, numbers, and capitals. Don't use any variation of your username, or even a real word. Make it long, make it complicated, and make it impossible to guess (and here's the hard part: try not to forget it!).

* Never tell anyone your password, ever! If someone PMs you claiming to be a moderator and asking for your password, they're a scammer. Gaia mods and admins will never ask for your password for any reason.

Hey, guys! We wanted to give you some advance notice about a couple of important changes that you'll be seeing on Gaia very soon.

For a while now, we've wanted to simplify how username colors of Gaia staff and Moderators appear around the site. We're about to make things way easier to understand:

In brief, there are going to be 2 main colors for people that are here to help; Green for Moderators and Orange for Administrators.

Green - For all Gaia's Moderators. In addition, there will be a text title under their usernames that better explains what their role is and how they can help you. If you need help, people in green are the ones who can help you.

Orange - For Administrators. These are the ones who manage the forums and lead the moderation and member services teams.

You may also see these other colors on usernames:

Dark Brown - For names will be given to those who do art, coding, and other fun stuff for you. These are the people that talk about features and development.

Black - For all other members on Gaia. So if a black username tells you they are a moderator or admin, they aren't icon_smile.gif

Members on your friends list will still be in Dark blue, and NPCs will continue to remain Red.

As you may know, there are currently several different username colors given to our staff based on what they do to support you, and that can be really confusing. We believe this new way of identifying Moderators and Adminsitrators will make it even easier for you to find who you need to assist you with anything on Gaia.

Green Moderators will still be your first line of support for all of your community needs. And Orange Administrators will continue being the official voice of Gaia as well as leaders of the community team.

Gaia's support team is growing really fast! That's why we want to make things more clear and simple.
We're already improving on our response time, and this color change is another effort in making things better. You should expect to see both the green moderators and orange admins engaging the community more than ever before.

We'll let you know when this takes effect, so stay tuned!

Report the sender immidiatly. this is a scam to empty your account. If you do not know who/where to send it, contact Moonblossom. She's a mod dealing mostly with GD hackings, but tell her that Sleeping Bear sent you and she'll sort it out and/or redirect it as required. If she doesn't, I'll send her to bed without dinner (lol). See, she's my daughter
