Well, I have this friend named Mike the Great who writes fanfics over on FanFiction.net. And he's recently started a new fic called Brawl Saga. It's a Super Smash Bros. Brawl fic, so it includes some new characters. He's even going to let me co-write some chapters. So that, of course, means he's told me some of the plot points and such, and let's just say it looks awesome. It's just getting started, so it only has one chapter so far. But don't worry....I'm going to ride Mike the Great's butt and make sure he doesn't slack off, like he is occasionally known to do. Oh, and here's a link to Mike the Great's FanFiction.Net profile. Just click Brawl Saga and read away. And don't forget to review! Oh, and I hope this is allowed....I mean, it's not my fic. I just know the plot and I read Mike's first chapter, so I thought maybe some of you guys would want to hear about it.

Yes, I agree. Most fics on FanFiction.net aren't worth reading.
But Mike the Great's fics are pretty good. His early stuff isn't that great, but both Bob and Chippy's Excellent Adventure and Brawl Saga are very well done. Mike the Great is a really good writer who actually uses good grammar. (shock! gasp!)
In fact, Mike is having me beta read Brawl Saga before he posts the chapters so I can make sure they don't suck. I point out any grammar errors, and I discuss plot and stuff with him. It's really cool. He defiantly knows what he's talking about. He told me he took a class in Creative Writing, and he reads a lot, so he knows how to write a story. He even writes some original stuff, but he also has a soft spot for fanfics.
So come on, don't doubt the quality of the fic juts because it's on FanFiction.net. The first two chapters are kind of short, because Mike hasn't written any serious fanfics in a while, so he needs to get back into the serious groove.
However, if you want some evidence of what Mike the Great can do when he does write longer chapters, check out Bob and Chippy's Excellent Adventure....it's a humor/parody fic that I would describe as sheer crack, and you actually don't have to know that much about Diablo 2 to get most of the jokes. It's kind of like Family Guy, where it's just one random joke after another, only unlike Family Guy, the jokes actually have to do with the plot. Oh, and I think at least one Nintendo character has shown up in about every chapter, but I could be wrong.

Sio FanFiction.net is full of fail. I admit it--I post on Fanfiction.net. I've noticed (as yet another among many) that the site is chock-full of half-rate writing. As sometimes I get a little desperate for something to read, I will occasionally venture into the less-than-top-quality zones, hoping that the fanfiction will be okay. To Tel-Jilad Squirrel: I haven't actually looked, so I can't say anything, but just be warned that "pretty good" may be interpreted in many ways--ranging from "he's not professional but he's very readable" to "he's on the acceptable side of mediocre." To anybody else: If you're looking for good quality writing and have the time to look, I recommend sifting through Livejournal. There are some good writers on there, though you do have to actually look through that pile too. The influx of juvenile writers not quite in control of their grammar has increased.

If you're beta-reading for him, you should probably also know enough about writing that taking a Creative Writing class doesn't necessarily make you a good writer. Mostly those just help you get the ideas out. Perhaps it's my own style that's interfering, but his writing seems a little choppy. Additionally, he falls into the "he said, she said" trap a few times, and I've seen him start his sentences three times in a row with "He..." something something something. ... You've also got a slight word choice issue up there. "Definitely" is probably the word you wanted, not "defiantly." I'll give him some credit, though. He knows how to spell, and if he mapped out a plot he's done something I haven't.

I can tell you're his beta from the line "The blade impacted Marth’s stomach, and Marth defiantly felt the stabbing sensation." It's the same issue that Kalyuhjah pointed out. If you didn't 'correct' his definitely to defiantly, I find it incredibly hilarious that you both make the same unique mistake. That, or you're the same person, which would be equally hilarious.
This Mike guy's writing isn't as great as you think it is, just so you know. Then again, I've never expected much from fanfiction, so I suppose it's alright.

....I never noticed that....I think the two of us use the same spell checker, because I can't spell definitely, and whenever I misspell is, my spell checker tells me to spell it defiantly.....curse you spell check!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually told Mike what you said. Here's his response, copy and pasted from my e-mail. (Aryll's my nickname....I'm thinking about getting a Fanfiction.net account myself, and he suggested the name Viewtiful Aryll based on our shared love of Viewtiful Joe and Legend of Zelda. That, and I stole my Gaia username from a fanfic he wrote and he doesn't really want me using it on Fanfiction.net) Mike the Great Yo! Mike the Great here! Thanks for the comments. I'm "defiantly" an amateur. I'm more interested in writing original stuff, so I use fanfictions as a way to hone my skill. In fact, your comments have probably been more helpful than the reviews I've actually gotten on the site. I love constructive criticism because it gives me a challenge to meet. I'll defiantly try to work on the things you pointed out. I'll try to work on what you guys pointed out. To tell the truth, I'm not that good at serious stuff. My only other major work was Bob and Chippy's Excellent Adventure, and in that I focused more on the humor impact than trying to really write well. This is my way of getting back to serious stuff. The early chapters will "defiantly" be a bit choppy, but it'll get better. So please just be patient. Even if my writing seems a bit choppy, my ability to craft plots is very high. I have this pretty cool sub-plot that's going on that has been hinted at very subtly in the first couple of chapters and will really be brought to the forefront pretty soon. It even ends in a big two chapter long event that takes place inside the world of one of my all time favorite DS games. But that's all the hints to future plot points you get for now. See you guys! Now I just hope Aryll doesn't forget to post this.... Yeah, that's a message from Mike himself. He's weird....but kind of cool. You know, I never really noticed most of his problems....then again, I'm one of those people who's willing to overlook things like choppy writing and such as long as the plot is really cool. Maybe he needs to get a better beta reader.....I'll see if I can convince him to let me post some of the beta chapters up here so you guys can read them and offer your opinions. You seem to be much more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff than me.
