this season had been kind of disappointing to me

Ya I know what you mean, like the last 4 or five have been a bummer, but last week's was really good told alot about Lock and all.

Yeah. I think they're doing that so they can sell more stuff (DVDs, etc). You can't blame them.

You know the key reason it's 16 episode seasons is because they wont licence people for full 26 episode seasons any more. That why we have so little anime in the west. Back on topic I'm just not surprised they cut down the sizes of the seasons. They also like to cut down on the actual airtime episodes get... don't you remember in the good old days when there was only ever a maximum of 2-3 commercial breaks during a show and now there's 5-6? And dont they seem to last longer than they used to?

Too many people want TV ads these days! I say less commercials and more airtime for shows with longer seasons!

TV costs more to produce nowadays. Mainly because of shows like Lost, Heroes and such being closer to the quality of Hollywood movies.
That means they have to charge more for network licenses to cover the costs and make a profit.
Which means stations have to pay more, so they need more ads to fund them.

Eventually we'll have more ads than actually shows.
