I'm sure anyone who works (not including people who work at home xd ) notice that there are silly rules and ways of doing things that just don't make sense.
As you may or may not know, I currently work in a library. I like my job. It keeps me active, I get to look at books, I get first choice of things, and I don't have to pay late fees (which is really good because I tend to return things late xd ).
But one rule at work I don't get is the one about not being able to wear images/logos on shirts. I'm allowed to wear jeans and T-shirts, but I just can't have logos. It's not like I'd go to work with a big marijuana leaf on my shirt (many of my nice shirts have logos on them even though the logos aren't big so I can't wear them at work). Plus, I'll admit I don't like to change my clothes. If they're not dirty or inappropriate for the occasion, I don't see the point of changing my clothes to go to a new place. xd Another one is the so-called alphabetical order. Words like 'The' and 'An' and 'A' are excluded, which means the books really aren't in true alphabetical order. These two things at work make no sense to me. surprised
So, what are some things at your work/job/place of employment that seem silly to you?

I have never understood the logo thing. I believe if it is in good taste then who cares.

i work in a factory so all our rules (tuck in shirts, tie up long hair, wear safety glasses, etc.) are made for safety issues. the only rule i don't understand is the need to wear boots. not steel toed boots, i can understand wearing them, but just plain boots. i wear steel toes because they protect my toes, but i saw a guy wearing regular boots and watched him get his toes crushed by a part. thing is, steel toes aren't required, but it is required to wear boots in general.

The exclusion of "the", "an" and "a" are for sake of ease in finding things. Just think of the row of "The" section.
Now logo shirts, got me?
I'm in the Navy, plenty of silly rules. Most rules are made for safety, but yes, even we have some lame rules. Warning labels can be funny though. All are there since someone did it.

I would imagine a rule about images/logos on clothing came from someone wearing something inappropriate, so they just had to ban all of them...
'cause people are smart like that.

Some rules like the no clothing with logo were made cause someone complained about what a person wear one day long before you came to the library. I know some place will allow plain t shirts without no pictures or logos. Alot of the rule was made since it has become the thing to wear clothing with something on it. I maybe sounding like a stuffy old grown up but a library is a place of business.
As for me I don't wear any t shirts with tobacco ads, alcohol ads or products along those lines. I don't like to feel like a walking billboard for those products since I don't drink or smoke! Clothing makes a statement about yourself and what you stand for.
As for the guy that has to wear boots at his factory. They are more for over all safety. Even if steeltoed boots are not required normal boots sound like the best footware for a factory.

but to be honest, regular boots are really no more protective than sneakers.

SuperBuick but to be honest, regular boots are really no more protective than sneakers. Yeah, when I worked in carpentry for a while, people still got nails through their boots, even if they were heavy duty leather work boots! They really aren't that much safer. As for crazy rules where I work.. hmm.. I cant' really think of any. But I work at pretty easygoing places. xD

If I actually listened to every rule at work I would actually be the only one.
I work in a hotel, so I have to look "professional", meaning just that. I'm suppose to tuck in my shirt (I don't), wear closed toe nice shoes (I either wear tennis shoes, sandles or flip-flops), can't dye your hair unnatural colors (for the most part I do follow this rule, but I have been know to use temp. colors like green or purple). But the one I truely don't understand is this: I have to fold what ever laundry is left over from day shift, but I have to fold it in the back room, but I'm not suppose to leave the front desk area unless necessary or on break. Fold laundry at this point is not possible because they dont' allow me to fold laundry up there. But on the days that I dont' fold laundry I get yelled at.
Figure that out.

I work for Starbuck's so I get double duty being in the food industry.
The health inspector insists that all our caramel bottles be labeled and it confounds me that anyone who works there wouldn't know what it'd be. I mean we use it on a daily basis. actually probably 5 times or more in a 20 minute period during our busy time. It's a distinctive caramel brown color, it can't be mistaken, less you are colorblind and picked up the mocha drizzle bottle (which is DARK brown) by mistake.
