I'm curious, so let's have a good discussion on this topic okay? Because it's actually something I want to know and hear opinions on. I'm not an adult yet but I hear enough to know that it's true. I just want to know what you all think about this? We were discussing in school yesterday and I heard from one of my teacher that "kids/teenagers" these days have more to think/ do than "kids/teens" have in my teacher's kids/teen years...my teacher says that may be one of the reasons why there are so many depressed teenagers...
I personally think it's all the pressure around a teenager that makes them depress. Because they may want to fit in and it's hard to try to fit in with other who aren't like you or to satisfy your parents while fitting in with your friends at school. On top of that there's the Media showing people doing this and that and how cool it is, but most of things aren't even cool. I think that, that's one of many things that makes a teenage depressed....
What do you all think?

Well in my opinion the simplest answer to that question is: HORMONES These really cause teens to be cruel to each other causing depression and if its not hormones then it's MMORPG's because I think some of them teens get hooked on and if one thing goes horribly wrong ding ding you have depression

Another reason teenagers get depressed is divorce and maybe the teen got stuck with the parent he didn't want or he didn't want a divorce at all or the parents dont get divorced but whenever he/she gets home from school they are arguing and fighting in his/her's face another cause is abuse.....oral, physical, and sexual such as whenever he/she comes home from school they get a scolding for no reason or they get beat repeatedly again for no reason or malesting or rape these things happen and teens get very depressed in these circumstances it usually ends in suicide....

3. Parents lately are working way too much and not paying attention to their kids as old parents used to. 2. School = pressure, for grades (parents) or fitting in (friends) there for if your not good at either of those two your a nobody = depression... 1. love life... come on if you have no friends and no parents to go to your gonna want someone to be with.. and this ends up in sex. thats why we have so many teenagers pregnant this days..
thats my opinion.

It's not mmorpgs. That's a stupid idea.
But I think a lot of it has to do with that being depressed is getting to be really popular.

MMORPG's = popular.
Out of the thousands of suicides each year, could it be possible that some of them play MMORPG's? Yes.
So ... could it be possible that the only reason more suicidal people play MMORPG' is because they're more popular? Yes.

IN MY OPINION These are the causes in order: 1. HORMONES: every teen goes through a process of pain, change, and discovery. No person is saved from it. 2. SCHOOL GRADES: every parent wants his or her kid to be smart. Most kids can't reach those set up goals. 3. FITTING IN: We all want to seem normal. Being a teen, it's extremely hard to be normal. 4. FAMILY ISSUES: Violent families, divorcion, orphans, unwanted babies, deaths, set-up goals, and strict parents or families cause many disturbations in early lives. 5. SOCIAL CLASSES: The difference of being rich and poor. I don't think I need to explain. 6. SOCIAL CULTURES: The hatred in between different social groups. We all know what that is. Sorry if I have spelled something wrong.

Simply put, a lot of it is hormones. Teenagers are pretty much going for a ride on an emotional roller coaster.
Not to mention the pressure of getting good grades and being accepted to a good college, being popular, having a love life, family issues, and all that other good stuff.

There are alot of things one is that almost everyone in this society thinks that you arent cool if you arent popular thus you get pressured to do things like drugs or things of that sort. School is a huge one more teachers more classes more homework. Parents too this is the time were they are never home and when they are they want to treat you like a 3 year old even though you take care of yourself more than them. Plus its the time to get out of the house and get a job. this thing is were is it you can actually get jobs now (in michigan that is) without moving? Simply said there is to many things on a teenagers mind.

I've heard that there is some kind of chemical reaction that occurs in the brain that causes people to become depressed.

I think it's because there are alot of things kids deal with now, like computers and video games on top of the usual teen things, like agonizing over a date, hormones, homework, and "The Crowd." Now, we worry about ***** on Myspace, getting a crappy score on Dance Dance Revolution, fighting with IM buddies we've never met in person, getting killed off on Runescape, learning "txt tlk" so you won't seem like a moron with the afforementioned IM buddies. Oh, not to mention real world problems like Global Warming that everyone seems to be talking about, your parents, puberty, wondering if dressing like your favorate superstar will make you seem like a whore because of her less than modest clothing choices, and tougher academic standards. It'd be enough to drive anyone nuts.
