Today was the very first day of spring marching band! It's my first year doing it so I was kind of nervous at first. All my band friends have been trying to recruite me for years and I finally caved. It's going to take me a while to remember the steps and memorize the music.
Does anyone here remember their first day of Marching Band? How'd it go? How'd you feel when you first started?

My first day of band camp = a lot of standing at attention and a whole lot of fly eating. Ya know, those little tiny flies that just get everywhere. All through marching season I was getting them in my mouthpiece. that must've been weird for the fly.... anyways, good luck in band!!! and don't trip while backwards marching. that can be bad...

I get scared at the start of every season that I am not going to remember the sets and how many steps it takes to get to each one but I always do. And it's always amazing. I love marching band. = ]

I was a TERRIBLE marcher when I first started. I could not keep in step. No matter who was in my ear saying left right, two three four. I just couldn't get it. Then one day durring warm up, It clicked, and now, I have no problems.

Very first day? As in July 26th, 2004? First day of freshman year Band Camp?
I remember that day. A friend of mine had been telling me horror stories about Band Camp [and high school in general] for a month already, so I was just a little nervous.
It wasn't too bad. Stressful though. Trying to memorize the music and figure out how to read the drill charts and trying not to piss off any of the section leaders. But it was still fun.
And next year I'm gonna be section leader. I'll have to whip my section into shape first day for sure. xP

My first day of marching was also my first day with my sousaphone. I thought my arm was going to fall off, my shoulder hurt so much.

I remember on my first day going "I'm not going to be able to do this. I'm going to horribly fail. I'll never remember my drill, or music. And I'll never be able to hold my trumpet up."
Needless to say, it just got a LOT harder after that.
But I did it. We all do, in the end. We work through it. Plus, all the rookies are accepted by at least one other person in the band. So it all works out quite well. There's always someone watching my back. biggrin

ARGGH. Very first day of marching season in my life. I fell backwards because I got stepped on during one incredibly difficult set. gonk But, on a good note, I had all of the music learned and memorized. The upperclassmen told me that I was 'nasty.' It took me awhile to realize that in high school, to be 'nasty' is to be incredibly awesome at something. I've been told that I more than make up for my lack of marching skills in music.

My goodness, yesterday was my first day in marching band. All the upper classmen freaked me out, since I'm not even out of middle school, where I'm still in the throne. And perfect postures huuuurt...

ahhh marching.... my first ever marching band thing focused soly on marching basics. they dont us not to even bring our instruments.
it was hot it was sore as heck it got frustrated i wasn't very good but the upperclassmen were nice they were helpful and they didn't treat us bad in any way
it worked out in the end even tho i get dizzy and cant play on the field... ^.^"
