So, last night my neck started aching out of nowhere. I took a hot shower (can't take an actual bubble bath in my house), and my neck cracked while I was washing out shampoo. I touched that area and there was a huge ball at the base of my neck. It hurt so bad. Today, it hasn't improved. It actually hurts to raise my left arm now, much less turn my neck in any direction.
So uhm... I'm thinking I might go see the doctor... if my office allows me to go. I hope they do. Assuming the muscle relaxants I have don't loosen the muscles enough.

Yes. At least call and consult them if nothing else.

Go see a doctor. Hopefully (and most likely) it's nothing serious but better safe than sorry.

definitely. Although a chiro might be better, and you'll probably end up with a referral to one.

Funniest thing, something similar has totally happened to me. I was perfectly fine, knelt to pet my dog, went to go upstairs and it was like a sudden shooting pain through my neck. I couldn't move it at all, and the only comfortable position was keeping my ear pressed into my shoulder. I couldn't even lay down without severe pain. It lasted two days and then got better on its own, but yours might be different. For example, a ball never formed on mine. You should probably at least call and ask your doctor. Better safe than sorry. =)

Just as everyone else has said see the doctor.
It could just be muscle spasms and cramps, but it could be something series. Whenever it involves the neck and the pain moves a pinched nerve is possible. (Although in this case unlikely, but if there is any numbness or tingling sensations in your arm make sure to tell your doctor.)
The ball is most probably cramped muscles.
