I just received one, did anyone else get one? I read somewhere that they were an April Fool's joke, but it didn't go into specifics...should I open it?

I guess they didn't do anything for April Fools last year? I don't remember.
The black gift box is a nod to a previous April Fools, before the blue gift boxes were released. There was a rumor going around about blue gift boxes for months, so people were waiting for them to be released. So, when the first of April rolled around, you'd log on to find a floating blue gift box, but when you clicked on it, it blew up and left your face black... but only until you changed your clothes, sort of like the original zombie.
So now, the black face is an item, rather than a limited effect. The platinum halo, when equipped, doesn't show as a halo, it shows as the black face. Hence the April Fools Day joke. wink

If you don't plan on using it for your avatar, I'd suggest leaving it unopened so you can sell it later at a higher price than they are selling right now.
