I've loves Egypt a little longer than I loved anime, so when I see animes that include Egyptology and other Egyptian aspects I like trying to look for any mistakes. But, one of my favorite animes, Yu-Gi-Oh!, uses Egypt a lot and I've yet to see a mistake. Even in the manga, where they show the papyrus of chapter 126 in the Book of Coming Forth By Day (Book of the Dead), I've checked each heiroglyph for a mistake, and there wasn't. Down to the last detail, it was correct. When they refer to things from Egypt, like ushebtis, they're correct in it. Any Egyptian language used is correct and can be translated. Other than the part of "There were no Millennium Items", it's correct. So, have you ever seen an anime or show with Egyptian bits in it, and were they correct?

Yu-Gi-Oh...*is possessed by an uncontrollable desire to strangle anything and everything related to it* Sorry. Bad memories. >_<
Currently, I'm reading a manga entitled Red River by Chie Shinohara. It's your typical female-Japanese-student-falls-into-magic-portal-to-another-land-and-falls-in-love-with-a-guy manga fare, only it's set in the ancient Hittite empire in the reign of Suppiluliuma I (or was it II? gonk ), during the reign of Tutankhamun by Egyptian reckoning. While it doesn't focus as much on the Egyptians, they do come into play (Ramses I and Horemheb even show up at one point ^_^) It's obvious the author did a heckuva lot of research on the Hittites, Egyptians, Babylonians, Mitanni, etc. during that time period, right down to the six spokes on the chariot wheels. 3nodding While there is artistic license taken, it's embedded in such a way that it doesn't seem out of place.
The only thing I hate is that the main character, Yuri, is such a ditz sometimes. mad

I've seen Yu-Gi-Oh quite a few times and the pyramid with the upside down wajet (Eye of Horus) just annoys me so much, lol. The wajet doesn't even look like .... a wajet!

Rennie` I've seen Yu-Gi-Oh quite a few times and the pyramid with the upside down wajet (Eye of Horus) just annoys me so much, lol. The wajet doesn't even look like .... a wajet! I've seen lots of versions of it, that's just a very simplistic version I guess. I've got one similar to that on my Egyptian charm necklace, although I've seen some extremely elaborate ones in the Egyptian stores around my city.

The only one I noticed (and remember) that uses Egypt references is... Yugioh! Other wise, Neopet's does use an Egyptian theme in one of their worlds, but it's not Anime! O.o

Has walls of mangas, shelves of DVDs and soundtracks, and import anime figurines. They also have a few of those old video games, like from 20 years ago. Oooh, and a guard cat.

(Yes, that is the actual title of the store, exclamation point included. xd ) I think I made an account for Neopets...I've never actually sat down and played it though. (I think the last time I logged on to Neopets was like five years ago sweatdrop )

Milwaukee just happens to have one a few miles off my normal school/city bus route and on another bus that stops almost right in front of it. Ah, I love that place, even though I hate cats.

Heh, except the town where I grew up. We had to drive over an hour to get to a place big enough to stock anime... or even Pocky! As much as I love anime, I've looked around for series with Egyptian themes but haven't had much success. I'd heard of Yu-Gi-Oh and tried to look into it... but I was both put off and morbidly fascinated by some of the Egyptian characters on their playing cards- like the Pyramurtle. The turtle with the pyramid for a shell, lol. I bought one of their Playstation games figuring I'd get access to more cards that way than actually trying to buy them all, but couldn't figure out how to play the game! So I gave up on it, and just assumed that the rest of the portrayal of ancient Egypt was as silly or nonexistent as what I'd seen in the cards so far. Maybe there's more to it though, from what you're saying.^_^ The only other series I found which I had thought might be a promising Egyptian anime was Horus: Prince of the Sun. Ironically, however, it actually has nothing at all to do with Egypt. The main character's name is Horus, but that's purely coincidental. The story seems to have more of a Northern European setting and flavor, if anything. confused Now I ask you, how cruel is that? It's like they're taunting us- they had to have done that on purpose! I'll remember Red River, and hopefully one of these days it'll come out as an anime. ^_^ I don't read a whole lot of manga, though I admire the artwork.

I'll remember Red River, and hopefully one of these days it'll come out as an anime. ^_^ I don't read a whole lot of manga, though I admire the artwork. I can honestly and fully say the manga was better than the dub, since in the original 7 mangas you can see the heavy Egyptian influance. It showed the Judgement of the Dead scene in perfect detail, which is extremely hard to do on a tiny tiny tiny tiny image. Also, when they use Egyptian in the Millennium World mangas for it, they actually use the correct words. Heka does mean magic, I checked. I was just sad they only used a few other words like "Duel Start", "Ka", and "Ba". I've got my own personal chants to help me focus (Nuk mesu Tehuit. Nuk dri sapu en eten unen, I am the child of Thoth. I am the book that is and that which is yet to be.), phrases for when I'm frustrated (Neter Heru em pet, which means Holy Horus in heaven.) and when I'm confused (shenshen preu, Illusion begone!) But, when I guess I can't expect that much. Seeing it is at least nice. As for the games, yeah, a lot can be hard. I haven't beaten anyone on the Duelist of the Rose game for the PS2, hit a roadblock on the Falsehood Memories on the Gamecube, and got bored with the Gameboy games because they were either too easy or I hit a roadblock. The PS1 game I nearly beat, but got frustrated and gave up like I did with Final Fantasy VII, although I'll get to that eventually...

I think I remember that one confused I probably should have put this on earlier, but Red River is rated OT for Older Teens (since Prince Kail is a lecherous b-er, jerk) so don't let your little brother/sister get ahold of it. 3nodding The only YGO video game I ever played was Eternal Duelist Soul way back when. rolleyes I beat it fairly quickly. I kept it for the longest time because I could fight Marik, who I had a big fangirl crush on at the time. In fact, that was one of the reasons why I quit, because I realized I was watching it more for my fangirlisms than for the actual show. burning_eyes But now that I've stopped, and cooled my head in an ice bucket for a while, it's okay now. I've heard that the GX arc is better than anything beforehand (I left during the Battle City arc) but I haven't watched it. And I've read the manga, and I think I prefer the manga over the anime. Not as much annoying monologuing and commercial breaks. 3nodding

Not as much annoying monologuing and commercial breaks. 3nodding I'm a Yami/Atem/Atemu/Pharaoh fangirl, and probably always will be, but I can put aside my fangirlism for a moment to truely say that GX is NOT better than the original! Oh my god, I rushed home to see the first episode because I thought the original characters would be in it along with a few new characters, sort of like the second Digimon where they were like the veterans of the show and helped the trainees. Ooh no no no, they hardly ever showed the original characters. Yugi came on in the first episode, as an adult, but they only showed him from the nose down! I had Silly Putty in my hand, got really mad, threw it at the TV and shouted, "SHOW HIS FACE!!!!" Then he gives Jaden a really weak card, walks off, and is never seen again! POOF! Just like that, gone! Since that day, I avoided the show as much as I could, but one night I was flipping through the channels and saw the King of Copycats episodes, and the guy trying so hard to do Dan Green's godly voice, and failing horribly. The entire time, I was twitching in rage. He had an ugly scarf that was just flapping in the wind, he TRIED TO MAKE HIS HAIR SPIKEY!!! He wasn't wearing the right clothes, and when at the end they showed an image of Yami next to him standing in the same pose I lost it. I started shouting, at 9:30 at night, "YOU'RE NOT THE SEXY PHARAOH!!!! YOU DON'T HAVE THE LEATHER!!! THAT UGLY-a** SCARF DON'T CUT IT!!!!" My dad came upstairs and yelled at me for yelling at the TV and saying such foul words. But, that's not the only person they cut out. Kaiba, who founded the school, only shows up once or twice. I haven't watched the show because it makes me feel like Kazuki Takahashi was forced to make it against his will, but I don't think anyone else was shown in the show, ever. Joey, probably not. Tristan, oh Hell no. If they won't show the original main character, why would they show a comical relief character? Tea, no, and that's about the only character I'm glad they didn't show. You'd think Kaiba or someone would help teach at least, but they've got a guy wearing make-up and frilly pink clothes teaching. If they needed a girly man, they could have used Pegasus! Why couldn't the creator of the game teach it? Why couldn't Mokuba, the younger brother of the founder of the school, maybe give a guest apperence? I'm sorry for ranting, but GX really makes me mad. I feel a part of me die away whenever I see it. I'll stick with the original series, thank you very much! GX must be pulled before anymore lasting damage is done to the orignal fanbase.
