It seems nowadays that there are a lot of ignorant/misinformed fans running around the internet. What kind of issues would you like to set the record straight on? Examples: Quote: People can't be Yaoi. Yaoi is a genre, not a sexual orientation! or Quote: Yaoi has become something of a blanket term for all things boy/boy or hinty. In reality, the term yaoi was used in reference just for the hard stuff. Shounen Ai was the term that was used for other, more innocent things. That term has since become out-dated and Boy Love or Boy's Love often shortened to BL has since taken its place. So basically, BL is the blanket term that would cover all things BL from the hintyness of Gundam Wing's pilots to the hardcore smex of Love Mode or Viewfinder.

Slashing live action TV shows and RPS are not the same thing. The first is slashing the fictional characters the actors play. The second is slashing the actors and not the fictional characters they play.

"Girls liking Yaoi is the same things as boys liking Yuri!"
Your thoughts?

Yaoi is not, I repeat, is not gay porn meant for men. Yaoi is a women's fantasy genre, that's why yaoi falls under the shoujo category. It's for girls!
Yes boys, you can read it, but yaoi is a girls genre. If you're looking for actual gay male stuff, that's called Gei Comi or Bara.

Fans: just because you support a fandom doesn't make them actually a couple. thx. Saying it jokingly is fine, but don't b***h out people who don't see it your way. MistressPaco "Girls liking Yaoi is the same things as boys liking Yuri!" Your thoughts? ..eh, mostly agree. There might be a different aesthetic to it, specific fans might have different reasons for liking it, but it's pretty much the same idea. =/

Well hun, when these noobs there is no order and the easy way out.
EG. --> [UR vs. You're] [Shounen Ai or Boy Love vs. Yaoi]
Most people who WERE looking at YAOI would know but most noobs don't know anything about that now do they. So when YAOI people would talk about what they like, they would see boy/boy = YAOIOMFG Thus the chain is started . =_=
Only now that the noobs are starting to take over that we start to b***h. I for one think we (and myself) should have done something when it started but it's to late. Every buddy and there grandma think yaoi when you say boy/boy.
I know you're pain T-T

~Feels really out of place here~ I'm beginning to wander if I got accepted for really no reason... There really is only girls here, not like there is nothing wrong with that, but the statement it being for only girls, now has being worried.. >.<;

"aimed at" isn't the same thing as "exclusively for." You're not gonna get lynched for being a fan outside of the target demographic. 3nodding

Aa, it's a little irritating sometimes when fans call a slash pairing yaoi. sweatdrop It seems a little odd to me, since it's not actually something of the genre... It's slash.

Personally, people who classify Yaoi as hentai tend to annoy me a bit... I mean, it's way different! Doesn't yaoi go under the Shôjo genre? That's what I've been thinking all along... a lot of Shoôjo manga involves heterosexual sex, but people don't call it hentai just because it has sex in it... >.> Or am I wrong about that? ;-;

I'm pretty sure straight sex in manga/anime classify as hentai as well; however, I don't read or watch any hentai so I can't be 100% sure. confused
I've also heard people stating that Yaoi is made for women, and Yuri for men. I'm pretty sure Yuri was made for women as well.
