I was very upset today. I went to a thread in a certain forum...and the threadmaker called me a "dumb c**t." I have never been called this before, and even though it was online, it really hurt...because I know he really meant it.
Is it bad that I got so upset at this?

You have every right to get upset about something like that. No one has the right to call you something like that neither in real life nor online. But don´t be upset too long. He´s absolutely not worth it. biggrin (At least that´s my impression)

You have every right to be upset, but I wouldn't worry about too much. Alot of people on gaia aren't mature enough to carry on mature discussions without resorting to name calling. Thats why I like this guild, mature adults who can carry on mature discussions with respect and dignity.

I'd report his a** for violation of Gaia TOS. The "c***" part merits punishment for his insensitivity and all-around misogyny.

That's true... You can report him. While saying "c**t" isn't against Gaia rules, actually calling someone a c**t is.
I know that some people can totally divorce their feelings from what happens online... I've never been one of those people. I react to things online exactly the same way I would in real life. So I know how you feel. I'm sorry your feelings got hurt by some jerk.

It is wrong on multiple levels: 1. it is highly insulting. 2. it is misogynistic 3. it's foul language Gaia could do without 4. it's flaming etc It's understandable you're upset, hopefully you won't take it too deep to heart. Just remember, if you need people stand up for you, send us a link. Not to turn things into a flaming war, but I will be glad to stand up for a fellow Guildy smile

while i'm one of the lucky "thick skinned" individuals, i do see how this would upset anyone. under no circumstances should anyone have to endure such vile and crude comments. i agree that reporting this scumbag would be the best option.

It's amazing what people do when there is a ton of physical distance between them and the people they insult online. It's instances like these that make me think the internet will be the downfall of humanity.

I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you! I would report him for sure!!
Don't despair about the internet though, there are idiots everywhere, but there are also good people everywhere -the internet just puts us in contact with more of both of them. Look at the response you have received from people who are upset on your behalf! We outnumber him in a big way!!

I would report it. For some reason I just can't stand that word. Call me anything else and I will laugh it off, but call me that and it makes my blood boil. I am not sure why but I do know that it sounds totally vulgar to me. Don't let it get to you.

Well everyone's pretty much voiced what I was thinking.
I don't know. I don't get upset about things like that at all. Maybe it's because I've become desensitized to name calling and the sort over the years, but everyone handles things differently. You have every right to be upset about someone calling you that, but the best way to piss them off is to not let it bother you. It gives asshats like that a satisfaction of knowing that he/she can get under your skin. Deny them that pleasure and it pisses them off beyond belief. The worst that can happen is they say something that'll get them banned. In the end you win. wink

wow. No, I'd be really upset too. When people resort to just name calling it's very immature, but there' not much you can do other than tell them and walk away...or..click away rather.

Ugh I hate that word. My brother called me that once and I went after him at full speed and just about beat the living hell out of him for it...then of course his friend called me that the next day...I basicly got him banned from my dad's house.
It's highly inmature to call someone by that word, or really calling anyone anything besides their given name, screen name, or a nick-name. And personally I would have turned them in right then and there for doing so.
