Hey everyone! Thank you so much for entering/voting in our first guild contest smile We're gonna take a little break and collect ourselves before the next one comes up.

Please feel free to give theme suggestions!

Also winners for the first contest will be announced on the 21st and votes will be closed at that time.

Welcome to the guild's official art contest thread! After all, what's an art guild without an art contest or two?

This is where we will be holding our monthly theme-based contests for the guild.

This contest is purely for the artistic improvement of guild members. We hope to see you expand your boundaries and try new things. There will be nominal prizes and people can donate art or items (please scroll down to prizes for more information).

Remember that the contest is not mandatory but of course we'll be happy to see as many entrants as possible.

Rules and Information


1. Please be polite and abide by the Gaia TOS
   
   
2. Each contest will be 1 month in duration starting and ending on the 15th. There will never be any extensions but there is a small grace period to account for different timezones. If you don't have time to enter for a certain month, there's always the next month.
   
   
3. Contest entries must be based on the theme or else they will be disqualified. Feel free to explain how your entry relates to the theme. All forms of art are accepted including photography and writing.
   
   
4. You must be a member of this guild to enter and vote.
   
   
5. All entries will be linked to the page with the entry form and pictures will be hosted on our guild photobucket account here.
   
   
6. Although we're not expecting a masterpiece, visible effort is encouraged.
   
   
7. Voting will be done publicly in this thread. Please scroll down to the Voting post for more information.
   
   
8. All art must be original and created by the user for this contest. This means that you can't drag up something you did in 2005 that happens to fit the theme for the month.
   
   
9. Please post all entries in this thread with the entry form.
   
   
10. Collabs accepted, if a collaboration wins the group chooses how to divide the reward.
    
    
11. Multiple entries are also allowed. However, each artist can only receive one prize.
    
    
12. You MAY vote for the same person twice... however the reason better be good.
    
    
13. You MAY also vote for yourself... once again, please have a good reason.
    
    
14. Rules will remain the same once a contest starts but may be subject to change in future contests.

Prizes


• All prizes will be housed on this account which is our guild mule. Please send any donations here with "contest donation" In the title. You may donate gaian gold/items or art. (You don't have to donate to enter of course)
  
  
• Art donations for prizes will be for first place by default unless otherwise specified.
  
  
• Donations will be split roughly 50%, 30%, 20% for first second and third place. Some items may need to be liquidated for better division.
  
  
• Everything on the mule will be awarded to the winners for that month. The contest funds will reset for each contest. This means that prize amounts may vary throughout the months.
  
  
• Each artist can only win one prize. If the artist places in the top 3 more than once, they will recieve their top prize. The other prizes will be given to the next in lines. The reason for this is so that one artist will not dominate the competition. Remember that this contest should not be focused on the prizes.

Voting


• Voting will be done in this thread by the guild members. This was decided between the moderators as the best option because it is public and will cause the least controversy. There is no chance of messing up and the entrants can see why certain pieces win.(It also had the most votes in the contest discussion thread)
  
  
• You must be a guild member to vote.
  
  
• Please use the vote form below. Votes without the form will be ignored.
  
  
• Voting will take place from the 16th to the 20th. If you're not available during that timeframe to vote... well too bad, nothing we can do about that. Votes before or after this period will be discounted.
  
  
• Awards will be announced and given on the 21st.
  
  
• Please be as fair as possible in your votes! We are allowing people to vote for themselves as long as they provide a good reason. Votes like "I vote for myself because I'm just so awesome and sexy even though the drawing sucks" will not be counted.
  
  
• First choice receives 2 points and second gets 1. All points will be added up accordingly and the pictures with the top three scores will be awarded prizes.
  

Things to keep in mind when voting


• The concept. (Originality? How well does it capture the theme?)
  
  
• The execution. (This includes effort, skill, technique, composition, etc.)

Reason: The concept is amazing! I would have never thought of drawing cows dancing in the moonlight next to a giant turtle. Not only is the concept amusing, the amount of detail put into the cows is mind-blowing. they almost look photo-realistic and I really feel this picture deserves to win.
