I need a vacation. I haven’t had one in at least two years, and I’m feeling it.
Has anyone here had a vacation recently and/or what’s your dream vacation?

My job, no matter how annoying and aggrivating, isn't all to hard and doesn't do the vacation thing. although, being alone here and away from friends is driving me crazy and I'd kill to be up there a week or more hanging out with someone.

I haven't taken a vacation in years, running ones own business and a farm sorta put that to rest. My dream vacation is a small one. I'd love to take off for a week alone in the bush, and do absolutely nothing but keep the fire going. No one wanting anything, no one asking me for stuff, no phones ringing. Read books, contemplate my navel, whatever........That would be bliss

Vacations aren't something we've done in my family, so I guess I'm the first of us to even venture out and vacation.
Last vacation I took was to spend a few days in Buffalo, NY, at my good friend's house almost two months ago. The weather was charming -- very crisp, with some light snowfall and some rain. But Buffalo, man, that's a boring place to be. Great place to eat, boring place to live.
Before that, I spent a week in Oakland/Berkeley to, once again, visit some good friends. Berkeley is an amazing place, full of culture and wholesome eats. And not one, but TWO huge indie record stores!
In April, I'm spending a week (most expenses paid) in Manhattan. Girl in the City! I can't wait, and neither can my camera.

@ Marcious Pharoe – Hanging with friends is nice after being separated for a long time. Where are you now exactly?
@ Nom-de-Plume – Yeah, that is a difficult situation to just ‘take some time’ off in. And that sounds like the kind of vacation I want. Only replace ‘bush’ with ‘bed’ and the only activity sleeping.
@ dyejob – Those vacations sound like fun. And even places that would be boring to live in can be entertaining if you’re visiting friends. I hope you enjoy your Manhattan trip. Do you use a digital camera, or a film one?

Last vacation I took was to see my brother and his wife in Oregon it was nice but it was hard not having a car at my disposal.
If I ever had the money I'd love to go to Greece and the Island of Crete. So much history! So beautiful! Also, someplace tropical would be very, very nice. Warm tropical breeze, sound of the ocean, white sands, fruity beverage with a little umbrella, and toss in a hunky dude rubbing my shoulders and you get my own personal version of heaven!!

The last traditional vacation I took was to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, with my ex. It was really great actually, despite the company.
Honestly though my dream vacation is to go back to Japan. I miss that crazy country so much. sad

My boyfriend and I recently went on a holiday -just for five days- to Exmouth, which is a three hour flight north of where I live. It was absolutely amazing! Beautiful beaches and luxurious accommodation -we even got to see an endangered species of turtle lay her eggs!
It was my first holiday in five years, but my boyfriend hadn't been on one for FIFTEEN years!! We both really needed it.....

In the past year I've vacationed in San Fransisco, Las Vegas, Pittsburg, Bangkok, Phuket, Shanghai, Xian and Beijing. And lived in Chengdu, but I suppose that could count as a vacation, since I loved it there.
San Fransisco and Las Vegas are really fun vacation spots. I always spend tons of money in SF's Chinatown and Japantown. I don't gamble, but Las Vegas has lots of fun attractions and shows. Pittsburg, I was there for a convention and so didn't see much of the city, but I wouldn't have really chosen it as a vacation spot, anyway.
Going to Thailand was the most stressful vacation I've EVER had. It's probably a great place to live, since you have time to get used to the flow of things, but going for only a week, even forewarned I got caught by a couple of scams. I've never been so positive that everyone I talked to was lying to me. Made me glad to go back to a non-English speaking country. However, the nightlife in Bangkok is to DIE for and the beaches at Phuket are fabulous.
Shanghai... was kind of boring. It doesn't have very many landmarks, except for the tallest building in China, third tallest in the world. It does have great shopping, though.
Chengdu isn't a tourist city, which makes it a wonderful place to go. There's lots of attractions and parks, but the vendors aren't geared towards scamming tourists out of their money, so it's a much more relaxed atmosphere than Shanghai. The food is also the BEST in China. But almost no one speaks any English, so it's not the easiest place to get around in for someone who doesn't know any Chinese.
Xian is probably my favorite, besides Chengdu. There's tons of interesting stuff to see, most notably the Terra Cotta Warriors. It's a tourist city, so a lot of the vendors will try to screw you, but the people are also very friendly, so if you know even a little Chinese, it's easy to talk them down to a reasonable price. The only problem with Xian is that I couldn't find a decent tea house to save my life!
Beijing has the most historical landmarks in China; the Great Wall, Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the summer palace... all of which should definitely be seen. But the nightlife is practically non-existent, the vendors are cut-throat and the people aren't as friendly.
As for dream vacations, I would love to go to India and Japan. I'm planning to go back to Xian next year, to show my mother the Terra Cotta Warriors. I wanted to go back to Chengdu for Chinese New Year (which has to be seen to be believed), but she has her heart set on those warriors and there is NO way I'm going to be in north China in the winter.

I don't know how I used to function without a viewfinder, and really, I take so many pictures that it'd cost me a fortune to develop them.

While everyone I know is up in Bullhead city, AZ, I life in Parker, AZ, a town that's the middle of nowhere in the middle of towns in the middle of nowhere. The biggest store is Safe way. Nearest Wal*mart? Lake Havasue City. *sighs* I HATE my town.

Vacation?! I haven't heard that term in a while in my household. xd The last trip I recall taking was in 2001 before the terrorist attacks, but I can't recall where we went. sweatdrop Ever since my dad got cancer we haven't gone on any and I miss them. It's strange I should happen upon this article/thread today when we have all been talking about them in my family (well except dad) Anyway, some of my dream vacations include Rome, Italy; Hawaii; Japan; Cairo, Egypt; and perhaps even to Alaska.
I want to go to Rome to see the Vactican (yes, I'm Catholic) I want to go to Hawaii to see the tropical islands and a REAL beach (I have never been to the coasts) I want to go to Japan to see all the anime and manga stuff up close and personal (maybe even learn a bit of Japanese) I want to go to Cairo, Egypt, to see the pyramids and some of their jewelry looks nice, too I want to go to Alaska to maybe see the Great Northern Lights and I like the cold weather (yes, call me crazy) heart
