Hard to narrow it down to just one! I'm another one of Stkh (Set)'s admirers, with an equal attraction to Ma'at. Actually I'm fascinated by the way these two deities complement one another- not as one "evil" and the other "good," but as two very powerful gods fighting/enduring toward the same end.

But there are so many others, and They all have such valuable roles and wisdom to learn from!

Bast- mysterious and sensual, joyful yet fearsome! She fills my life with love and a sense of responsibility- She lives abundantly, and by Her example so many of us do the same.

Skhmt, Who is in the medicine I love so much and foremost in Her teaching of appropriate action. She instills within Her children the importance of cherishing ma'at!

Djhwty Who is wise and so very clever, a master of the mysteries which fascinate me- among them language and magic.

Inpw, Whom I adore as a brother and Whose gentle hand safeguards my patients under anesthesia, guides dreamers, and eases the transition when it is time for a loved one to pass on.

Amn, Who never ceases to awe and inspire me, a silent and strong presence which is nevertheless so enormous it surrounds us all with His protection and watchful blessing.

Hrw, Who soars over would-be challenges and turns adversity into strength!

And I've only just skimmed along the surface. heart I have a lot of favorites!

There are indeed many to love and many to respect. For me though, above ALL others, I love the Goddess Sekhmet. Goddess of Healing, Lady of Plague, Enforcer of ma'at, Protectress of the Just, The One Before Whom All Isfet Trembles. She has helped me in so many ways to overcome the trials before me as well as my own inner demons. As for the others, I do gie homage to Heru, Wesir, Yinepu (Had a nice humorous yet serious conversation with him...He kept getting distracted by the german chocolates I offered Him razz ), Aset, Bast and Set.

I would say it is a tie between Bastet and Isis. I like the story with Isis retrieving her husbands body parts and putting them back together. And then Bastet, because of the whole cat idea. I love kitties.

I love Bastet best. She is lithe, graceful, elegant, and very regal. She's also cunning, beautiful, and even-tempered for the most part.

Thoth is pretty cool... I would say he's one of my favorites. But it is hard to choose one over the others sweatdrop .

I like Hathor:

"HATHOR (solar disk-cow)

House of Horus' A woman with ears of a cow, a cow or a woman wearing a wig, horns and sun disc. Daughter of Ra sometimes vengeful (the eye of Ra once sent to destroy man). Married to Horus, mother of Pharaohs, she was more usually associated with sexuality, joy and music. At Thebes she was the Lady of the Western Mountain and the dead followed her with the sun at night. Goddess of the desert, foreign lands, turquoise, faience, sycamore and healing as she restored the eye of Horus."

It's been said a few good times in this thread-- there's too many to just pick one.

I'd say Anubis, at the top of the list for sure, followed closely by Thoth.

I don't know much about Bast... but she's always cool. She's a cat, how could she not be? And Hathor *laughs* she's always struck me as (and no offense to anybody by this) the stereotypical "fat black woman with an attitude"-- calling people "hunnychile" and all that good stuff (don't ask me why... the image just sticks for some reason... doesn't she seem like the kind of person to show up to Horus' coronation feast with fried chicken?)

*glomps Horus on the head* You remind me too much of myself... to hot of a temper.... But we love you anyway. Yer a falcon, after all. cool

*plays knock-and-run on Seth's bedchamber door at 2 in the morning after a bad Saturday night at the pub.....* *plots all sorts of mean things involving shaving cream, toothpaste, lipstick, fingernail polish, and toilet paper.......* I'm sorry, guys, but Seth was a nut, and a cracked nut at that. Pitiful to the point of being lovable (sometimes), but... he tried to kill Anubis. *throws jellybeans at him; tries to flick a field goal between those ears*

*shuts up to do her homework* ninja sweatdrop

*laughs* You have a very interesting impression of Hathor! wink But she definitely strikes me as a strong woman, so I can agree with you there!

My impression is that Stkh does what has to be done to get the job done, even if the task is unpleasant or reflects on him badly- in fact, especially if the task is unpleasant and reflects on him badly, because in that case he's frequently the only one willing or able to do it, heh.

But what is this about killing Inpw (Anubis)? Are you refering to the story of Inpw's birth by adultery? In my opinion, we can hardly expect Stkh to accept a child which was not his... particularly for the time, adultery was a very serious offense. But if you've found another instance, please share! There are so many fragments of myth floating around- I love it when I chance across a new one!

Personally, I have seen some evidence for an alternate version of the tale where Stkh really is Inpw's father! And I admit that I do prefer this to the other... I suspect that with this change in the story, their relationship would also very much improve. Check out the red hair in the photo to the right- you can really see the family resemblence!

Big fan of Isis. Mother goddess and all. Then there is Anubis. He just calls to my darker side.
