I go to a High School in California. The majority of the drumline at my school consists of very cocky percussionists who think they're the best, even if they're horrible.
Being in the pit, it gets kinda old, because most of us in the pit are like "Bah, whatever" and we sound really good.
I think the DL's attitudes only bring them down.
Discuss: - Are members of your DL like this? - Are you in the DL/Pit? - Anything else.

actually they are really kewl, i can talk to all of them and they talk bakc...but they have this cocky status with themselves and dont really push it on others...im in the pit, but was the drummajor for this years marching season...its really weird...what pisses me off thought is the fact that they are idiotic and dont do what they are supposed to during der 9drop everything and read)...its really stupid but at lesst they could read.

Our drumline:
"WOAH!!! a stick!!!"
"What should we do with it?"
"I KNOW! LETS HIT STUFF!!"
except a few....who marched Oregon Crusaders drum corps this summer, which made them even more of some of the most egotistically full of themselves idiots I have ever seen. I'm a flute/sax/mello player /pit section leader and this is one of my biggest band pet peeves.

Um... I'm assuming when you say Drumline, you're refering to the battery. At my school we consider the the Pit (mallets and auxillary) and the Battery ( Snares, Basses tenors and cymbols) the Drumline. And honestly, the pit at my school is generally more cocky than the battery. Or at least the opening cocky.
Oh yeah... I'm in the pit. I play Vibes mostly , but occationally marimba.

I'm in the drumline (but I was one of the former charter pit members for our school)
Yes I suppose we are a bit cocky, but thats because this year, the pit was BAD. (They're all my buddies so I'm not ratting out complete strangers)
We played the "War Within" this year and durring Palladio only one Pit member could get the tempo, the other just dragged it (to the point where it was Painful)

. About 1/4 of the percussionsts are like that. One kid in my band can play the set really good, but when it comes to reading music...he can;t really do it. He is SO cocky though. Im not cocky though

After being a member of Drumline for around 9 years... I can say that Generally: Snares are cockier than anyone else, followed by Tenors, then somehow Symbols are the next cocky.
Also I can that when you get into professional drumlines, college level, etc., just about everyone begins to get cocky. Personally thats the reason I quit being in drumline and started working independantly in a studio.

Ours just aren't cocky, but they're dumb as bricks. Only section that's dumber is the low brass.

I'm a percussionist, I'm not cocky but I do say alot of the percussionsists here are cocky generally because they're ******** hardheaded.
although, I'm the only female percussionist so far in the band.

The most conceited kid in my percussion class got some people in the locker room and was seeing wwho could punch harder so me and the other girl percussionist, Hailey, went in there and Hailey was hitting this kid Evan and right then, the teacher came in. In the end, Evan was the one who got in trouble even though he was the one getting punched XD
