There was a recommendation thread but it was deleted and I was sad to see it go, although techinically, I wasn't there. Anyways, I just read a fic and I got really exited and want to share it with people so I'm making this my fanfic recommendation thread in honor of the thread that died. So this is just a place that I can rec fics and feel free to read them or whatnot.
I mainly read yaoi/shounen-ai but sometimes general and very very rarely, het. And those will be rec along with the yaoi. Of course I will warn for het if necessary. Lol, that's funny, warning for het.

If you've read them or any other fics, feel free to discuss them. Analyze, comment, whatever. (just so long as I know whether this thread is wanted or not so I can keep rec-ing. or not.)

fandom: Naruto
pairing: none
status: Work in progress
title: This Time Around
author: Crimson Skies
summary: "A six year old Sasuke wakes from a nightmare...but Itachi wouldn't really kill the clan, right? As for Naruto, well, maybe he won't be so alone...this time around."

The best go back in time fic I've ever read. Well, no not really. That goes to the abandoned Betrayal Arc, an X-Men fanfic by Valerie Jones (het btw). But while the Betrayal Arc is pretty convoluted, This Time Around is simple and most importantly really got the essence of it down. Sasuke and Naruto find themselves back in time and try to fix it all. What I like about it is that at almost every corner I was shouting "brilliant" and "genius" at the computer screen. Things just pop up as you read and it makes you want to smack your head for not having thought it up in the first place. And it goes through the episodes pretty quickly for which I'm glad of. Many faults of going back in time fics are that they rewrite everything we've already read/seen and that just makes it a chore to read through. Maybe it goes through it a little bit too quickly but at least it's not slow.
Don't take the praise to mean it's a perfect fic. It's not. There are grammatical and/or spelling errors, run ons, and unintentional sentence fragments. But ignoring all of that, a simple yet exciting read.

fandom: Harry Potter
pairing: so far Draco+Harry but planned for Draco/Harry, Snape/Harry
status: abandoned
rating: it was planned for and labeled M but since it's abandoned, it only got up to PG-13. However, since the laws for the guild hasn't been resolved yet, I won't link it and you should either have to search it up on ff.net or go to my site which has a direct link.
title: In Memory I
author: Becka
summary: "What if someone followed Hagrid the night he delivered Harry to the Dursleys? How would Harry's life have been different? AU that follows Harry as he grows up with the abusive Dursleys, and continues to his time at Hogwarts"

The best Harry Potter fanfic I've ever read. Yeah, so what if it was abandoned (or the author's dead sad ). It's good. May have started off a little pretentious, and everybody's made that mistake before when writing, but it's pretentious in a good way. I like this fic because it deals with the Voldemort/Harry/Snape triad which is rarely ever touched upon. Well, if not the Voldemort/Harry/Snape triad (evil/good/on the crossroad and in between), then at least the Voldemort/Harry opposition and twists it. I especially love the interlude since then it gives explanation to the title and greater meaning to the story as you find out In Memory I is a book written by Draco Malfoy years after the event you are reading now.
The only problem with this fic is that it is abandoned and will never ever be finished. You are left on the brink, wondering will Harry be evil, is he the next Voldemort or not, can he be corrupted and if so, how and it will never be answered. Never.

author: fullmetalcute
summary: "He’s got a cunning plan."

Short, funny, and cute.

fandom: Naruto
pairing: none
status: complete
title: How to Commit Seppuku in Three Easy Steps
author: kimi no vanilla
summary: "Tools You'll Need: A sharp object, an inescapable burden of shame, the experience of the worst failure you've ever committed in your life. Time to Complete: about 15 minutes. Results may vary."

Explores Hatake Sakumo's thoughts just before his suicide. Appropriately depressing. What else can I say.

fandom: Harry Potter
pairing: none
status: complete
title: Sins of the Children
author: Melissa Jooty
summary: "He felt dead inside. He was so tired of it all.' In 1976, the attempted suicide of a boy at Hogwarts will haunt the lives around him and the very future itself..."

While I like the outcome of the suicide, the suicide itself was OOC. And it was such a muggle way of going about it. Although I did cackle at the poetic justice. At least I think it's poetic justice...

fandom: Stormwatch/The Authority
pairing: Midnighter/Apollo
status: complete
title: Protect
author: Leelan
summary: "A summary of Midnighter's Protection Priority List. He's a simple man, really."

Genius. It's just a freakin' list but there's so much meaning it in.

fandom: Batman
pairing: none
status: complete
title: Things That Go Bump In the Night
author: Reichenbach
summary: "Robin regains consciousness in the midst of a situation he's unprepared for."

Funny, kinda original, and cute especially when Tim slips up (sorta). What's so great about it are the things behind the lines. You get to the end and you go back to the beginning again with a different view and it's still amusing.

fandom: Teen Titans
pairing: Tim/Bart, Bart+Kon
status: complete
title: Vampyre
author: girl_starfish
summary: There has been unrest around a town and young mister Conner Kent and skeptic Timothy Drake as well as others were, by Herr Luthor's invitation, to investigate.

I appreciate the style and work the author had put into to create a likeness of the Victorian or Romantic mood. It's a fun, thought out adventure with a bittersweet ending which is why I'm not so fond of the sequel, Zhombies of London. The sequel lacked the Romantic mood that I enjoyed in Vampyre, the language was gratingly modern, and the nice ending of Vampyre was a bit ruined by the continuation. That aside, the sequel was a fun read too.
Not quite a complaint but more of an observation, Kon seems more like Superman than Superboy. If he was Kon, he would flirt with Beth outrageously rather than be a gentleman but it makes sense since he was raised on a farm and had a different life from canon Kon.

fandom: Batman
pairing: none
status: complete
title: Heart, Humble
author: Brown Betty
summary: "Back then, all the boys his age had hero-worshiped costumed vigilantes. Jack supposes they still do."

Really nice AU set during the time Tim semi-retired from the costumed business from Jack Drake's point of view. I wish this had happened instead but I suppose that's what fanfictions are here for... This fic is canon in my heart.

fandom: Young Justice? Bat clan? Teen Titans? all of the above?
pairing: practically none
status: work in progress
title: Fathers and Sons
author: etain anders
summary: "AU. It's just another night in Gotham for Robin until someone new shows up."

Robin vigilante-ing and crosses paths with Kon (who had not been dubbed Superboy) before the formation of Young Justice. Friend!fic I think. Since it's not nearly done, I can't say much about it but that it seems promising. And slow to update.
It's labeled M but I really don't see anything wrong with it; currently PG-13 at most. The only warnings are for moderate violence and profanity...
