*laughs* I made a thread similar to this in a KH BL/Yaoi guild I'm in, but I decided that it's applicable to a good amount of anime, manga, video games, books, movies, what have you.
Have you ever had somebody who does not enjoy slash, or at lease have no real knowledge of it, notice the "slashability" of a series? Perhaps they remark on a character's relationship with another, or just a character's general personality.
Example?
The video game that have straight males looking twice at a scene in skepticism at every corner- Kingdom Hearts II!
You must be thinking, "Surely you jest! A video game with slashablility? Why, that's never, EVER been done before!"
[Kitsune-chi will now take a moment to choke on her own sarcasm.
*a brief silence*
There we go. Moving on.]
Well, yeah. For those of you who aren't familiar with Kingdom Hearts, you should know this: It has one of the largest fan followings I have ever seen in a video game. It has one of the largest BL fan followings I have ever seen in a video game. Translation: It's friggin' popular.
And with good reason: Especially regarding the BL following.
I won't give spoilers, so this may seem vague:
My brother and everybody I know who has played that game can see the slashiness in it. Most of it derives from Axel and Roxas and near the end with Sora and Riku, but dear lord, I was gobsmacked when I first heard my brother's friend say, "Axel's totally gay for Roxas, man."
And then I squealed and stuff, but, y'know, that's a given. So whatever.
And then the rest of them bloody caught on. I can't play Kingdom hearts without hearing some kind of gay joke now, and while it's amusing, it got me to thinking: I know I have a slashy mind, and I know that sometimes it's natural to blow things out of porportion when you're aware of undertoned relationships. But I just find it so amusing when while there's no blatantly (And by blatant I mean, "I love you. I want you. Let's make babies.") canon evidence of a pairing, they can detect: "Well, dear me, I do say that something here might be amiss!"
Not that my brother and his friends talk like that.
...
It would be seriously funny if they did though.
So tell me, my lovely friends, have you had experiences akin to this? A friend, a brother, sister, a family member, et cetera, that had a little lightbulb come on in thier head when they saw some kind of anime/manga/movie/book/video game with you?
Because it makes a pretty funny story. :3

Does a shy little freshman boy who is frightened by fangirls and yaoi saying, "Sasuke and Naruto, you know they're into eachother. They are so getting it on." count?

I would have to agree with KHII. Everyone i know who has played that game has commented that it seems that Axel is in love with Roxas. And im talking about guys and girls here, not just fangirls. Their probably the closest thing to cannon there is in them games.

Yeah I couldn't agree more about KHII. All of the people I know who have played that game think there is stuff going on between Axel and Roxas.

I don't know if anyone here has seen the anime "Berserk". It's very not PG-13, so I figured I'd ask.
It doesn't have half of the fan following that it deserves, either, so that's another reason I guess.
Anyway, I watched this anime before I was even aware of the existance of Yaoi/Shounen Ai fandom/genres/what have you, along with two boys who were equally innocent at the time.
Now, those few diehard berserk fans that are out there (mostly, for some reason, those who fawn much over Griffith) will adamantly declare that there is no homoerotic subtext in this anime, and it's all in the heads of a few insane slash fangirls.
All I know is that when Guts and Griffith are having their very first duel - with all the posing and wind-in-my-hair-god-I'm-pretty that Griffith has going on before and during that, and the infamous line "I want you, Guts" - both of my male friends were exchanging worried looks. By the time of the happy-nakey-water fight between those same characters, both boys miserably exclaimed "Oh GOD, they are so GAY!!!"
And the fact that Judeau was totally peeping on them didn't help this case much either. They almost stopped watching right there. But then there were some more cool, bloody, gorey fight scenes, so they settled down again.
However, by the end of the anime, all present were completely in agreement that Griffith was madly in love with Guts - so much so that I was honestly shocked to find how scorned this notion was among the diehard fanboys (and Griffgirls.)

That definitely counts. X3 It reminds me of a DVD that my brother saw with Sasuke and Naruto sleeping on a bed of leaves or something and Sasuke's upside down and DAMN IT'S A CUTE PICTURE and he said, "That's the gayest thing I've seen all day." X3

BWAHAHAHAHA.
I just showed my brother the manga image in Naruto where Sasuke is hovering over Naruto's head awkwardly *OMGSPOILER like anybody who's into Naruto doesn't already know this* after he tries to kill him and stuff and he just went, "Eeeew. Gaaaay."

LOL, my little brother knows I'm a yaoi fangirl, but sometimes I don't even have to say anything... While I was working on my Naruto fanart, he asked me why Iruka was winking at Kakashi, even though I hadn't intended for it to be that way. And we both giggle at Kingdom Hearts. I was also watching Star Wars yesterday, and I think he secretly agreed when I said that Obi-Wan totally wanted to kiss Quaigon... XD

HAHA YES! Sorry, just, oh man, I get so excited when that happens. <3 It happened just recently, actually. The first was when we watched King Arthur (the newer one) in class for British Literature. We were at this scene where Arthur is praying in the stables, and Lancelot storms in all ticked off, and the lines go like this: Quote: Lancelot: Why do you always talk to God and not to me? Pray to whomever you pray that we don't cross the Saxons. Arthur: My faith is what protects me, Lancelot. Why do you challenge this? Lancelot: I don't like anything that puts a man on his knees. To this a boy sitting behind me said "He'd get on his knees for Arthur." It took a full minute for the implications to sink in, and it was as if the entire class got it at the same time, because we all started laughing and the teacher was like "EXCUSE ME!?" And I squeed a lot on the inside. Clive Owen and Ioan Gruffudd are so attractive!

Hooray, I'm not the only one. Griith and Guts are teh massive gay together. Even my brother and my friend agreed. It's really quite sad. Suggestive lines don't help their supposed gayness, either.

i was over at my sis' house the other day, playing Drakengard 2. in the game, i recently got the character Urick, so i've been able to have a slightly larger party. soon after you get the character, you have to go to one district and destroy a seal, the guardian of said seal is a man named Yaha.... the battle starts, and Yaha is talking to Urick about how they used to be... "That I thought of you as more than just a friend." my sis pointed this particular line out to me and i was like "wwwhhhhoooooaaa! hold on a moment!" they made it VERY obvious that Yaha was totally for Urick... however, if you just listen to the voice and other comments he makes... he's a total ***** too >.>' i didn't think that video games made characters that obviously gay.. i guess i was wrong lol

Well, many FFXII fans have commented on Vaan's "total gayness", but I think that that has more to do with his appearence than his actual personality.
I'd link to a comic page as an example, but my school has DeviantArt blocked, the jerks. -_-.
Fushigi Yuugi and Yami no Matsuei don't count, since there are some canon gay characters in there...
Oh! Star Wars Ep III. Obi-wan/Anakin. ANYONE could spot that implication. (Especially in the novel)
