Every so often the Yakuza go nuts and do something in Japan to get the nation's attention. I figured I would create a thread about them seeing how they have this stigma to them. I personally have not met any yakuza (to my knowledge) however I have been in one of their stomping grounds and lemme tell ya it was scary!
What do you think about the yakuza? Have you seen some of their tattoo artwork? eek Who are they comparable to?

I don't like them. Just because a bunch of morons with tattoos over their body act tough doesn't make them the best. Ooh, it's a dumba** with tattoos on his whole back! And he looks like a mad scientist! Ooh! That's what I think of them.

I've done my own little resurch about them, they have a very interresting history! (sorry... I'm a history nut sweatdrop ) I think its so cool that even by their name you can tell what kind of people they are. yakuza, stands for the numers 3-7-9 wich is dirived from the gambling game similer to blackjack, save their game is based on 18 instead of 21 so 3+7+9=19 meaning they're loosers! xd I love it!

I have met 5 members to my knowledge and it was all through association of one. Some of them are very cool people, the only problem that I had with any of them was with only one of them, otherwise they were just nice to talk to. Sadly, two of the five that I actually liked the company of are dead, and the one that I didn't like, is thankfully dead. As far as their practices, theirs are rather ancient cruelties, even on their own members. The one I initially associated with has been shamed and basically cast out.
I'm not sure if they were cool because of where they were from or what, but 3 of the 5 were around the Osaka area. -shrugs- They're just regular guys if you meet them on the right terms, it's the same with damn near any "mafia", my dad once associated with the Korean mafia and since they liked him, they watched out for him.

they basically terrorize their own people and do other crap which i dont approve of. its just some people are facinated with them along with ninjas and samurai... seeing how many people have their favoirte "japanese groups" that they like to study and research i was just wondering what our little community thought about them.
maybe my next topic will be about ganguro!! eek
eta: yakuza is 8-9-3. its from the old numbering system.

They're pretty much like the mob groups here in America, a group of low lifes rejected by society and lead by a small band of highly motivated low lifes that do what they wish with them. How they treat their kind depends on the leader. If he's kind and just, thats the kind of treatment the other members under him get, same deal if the leader is a manipulative jerk that only wants more power and respect. And like most mob groups here in America, they have one main rule: Betray the family, and you're not getting out of it alive.

It sounds like you are referring more to bosozoku. Yakuza may have mad tatts but they are far from high school dropout types. Yakuza use extortion. They are the underworld of Japan. They smuggle guns in to Japan (a no fire arm country).
