wear gloves. when it gets cold the straps can make you bleed

Actually, drummers in some schols (i.e. mine) aren't allowed to wear gloves. So, do whatever you can to keep your hands warm, esp. during the ballad when you probably won't be playing that much.

i always made the cymbal players hold their arms out (with cymbals attached) for a few minutes whenever they were late. it improved their arm strength and endurance. that and the fact that running laps doesn't do crap for cymbal players.

Well. there isnt much to playing cymbals make sure you hold them right and if you have fellow players, make sure you use your side vision so you look the same and uniform as they do.
We dont have cymbols in our line, we are more DCI like.

try asking ur teacher for pads to go on ur cymbals, so that ur hands don't touch the metal and so the straps don't hurt

Bandanas instead of cymbal straps, soft and large. :333 You'll still get blisters, your hands will still get sore but you'd eventually learn to grin and bear. I think my school is the only school in my chapter that uses bandanas.
