I've never been there BUT.. back in UK i do not like the heat whatsoever, but because of the positioning of the place...do you think that i wont mind the heat due to it not being too humid?

Discuss:
Heat in general do you like it? Do you hate it?

Darling, this isn't on Egyptology, lol.

But the heat there is over 40C - 50C (Over 100F - 130F That was a guess!!!) but only the mornings are copable. By the way that is Egyptian summer I was mentioning whee

Hey, it's about Egypt- and at least as egyptologically serious and/or relevant as role playing, and probably moreso. wink The heat is a real force to be reckoned with over there and I'd love to hear from people who've been there about just how bad it really is, and how they dealt with it throughout their trip.

For me, it's a big thing- it is so incredibly hot over there and I do not deal with heat. Most of the people who know me expect me to go to Egypt- or to want to go to Egypt, at least- and they are always scandalized when I respond that, at least at present, I have very little interest in actually going and feel that I would probably be miserable if I did. True, it is a lot easier to deal with dry heat than humid heat- and I suspect that you're right to point out that difference Damhur... but that's a lot of dry heat, and I just don't know how well I'd fare.

My roommate (Dr. Arcane here on Gaia) and I were discussing this recently, about how we would cope in the event that we ever did find ourselves setting up for a trip over there. He says that he hopes there's air conditioning at the hotels- but personally, I think that would almost be worse because you wouldn't have a chance to get acclimated; every time you stepped out the door you'd be hit with the full force of the heat! It was like that when I lived down in Alabama- though to be fair, that was very humid heat. It was almost like a physical force when you opened the door. So now Arcane's having visions of "cold suits" like the astronauts use, and we'll be waddling around in the Wadi's wearing these suits and helmets, no doubt picking up rocks from the Nile banks to examine with mechanical arms like the Mars lander did, heh. Personally, I've heard that the character suits worn by employees over at Disney Land/World have their own built in air conditioning systems, so that Mickey Mouse doesn't pass out from the heat in front of a bunch of impressionable young children. I suggested that if we were to get cold suits, then we should at least go themed- I'll be Chip, from Chip 'n Dale. xd

The heat can make you miserable beacuse there is no escape from it, unless you jump in the pool, Nile or have a cold bath 3nodding

When I went on my trips we had to go early in the morning because the heat is too unberable in the afternoon, especially in Abu Simbel. By the time you get back (usually 9am or 10am Egyptian time, GMT+2hours) it is very hot, but not at its hottest, which is unthinkable!

There are certain tricks that you can use to stay cool in the desert regions of the world. By wearing rapped layers, the sweat the body produces could cool your body temperature and is less likely to evaporate with the layers of cloth keeping the moisure far from the surface and the sun's rays.

I hear it's hot as hell.. but I myself like the warm weather.. I absolutely hate, and I repate--I HATE TO COLD WEATHER!!!! So, I think I'd actually enjoy it over there. ^^

Although I have never been to Egypt, I have been to the Middle East during the course of this war. The heat there is very dry, so it does not feel as bad as a humid heat would. In order to cool themselves off, many of the locals splash water onto the ground around them, which does work for a short while. However, during the summer, even though the heat is dry it is most uncomfortable, sometimes downright unbearable if you're in a flack jacket >.< During thhe fall and winter, the heat isn't so bad, and the nights are bitter cold due to the drastic drop in temperatures, not the overall outside temperature.

I'll always assume that in Egypt, it's ALWAYS hot in the day, and VERY COLD at night ^^;. But wow... I wonder how most people over there can stand the hotness. I guess they adapt to it, right?

Not always. I've met a few Egyptians who say that the heat in the midday summer is unbearable, and they have lived in Egypt all their life.

I was there in autumn the other day and I was astonished that is was not that hot. Sometimes I even froze a little. But like I said, that was fall, I have no idea how it is in summer.

Well, it all depends. I've never been to Egypt, but I live in Texas, which is also very hot, and humid where I live. The heat does get unbearable, and most people stay out of the sun and heat in the mid-afternoon. Things to remember (learned personally from many years of experience, several of which were spent in a tin oven--er; trailer home): Keep out of the sun. Shade is your Friend, keep as close as possible. Water is also your Friend; use liberally, and keep with you at all times. Drink it, pour it over your head, douse your hair in it, etc. If you have long hair, PUT IT UP. And keep it wet; it makes a world of difference. Take showers often, go swimming, etc. If you're living in a heat trap--metal trailer, douse it with water sprayed from the hose. Caves are AWESEOME--natural air conditioning! rofl ! Wind is also your Friend; get an electric fan for your residence, and bring a handheld with you. In Texas we wear long, loose sleeved shirts, or t-shirts, and shorts (those who go outside, at any rate) in light colors, but if you wear thick clothing in layers, your sweat creates a natural air conditioning.

I, personally, am very prone to heat-sickness, and thusly do not venture outside much in the summer. If you don't like the heat in the UK, you might be able to acclimate yourself to a warmer climate, but it'll be pretty hard. Just remember: if it seems silly, but the natives do it, do it too. There's probably a good reason. Oh, and leave your car windows open a crack.

Greece is not too hot. Alot of the countries on the Med are nice and warm blaugh Well that's probably because I'm used to Egypt's heat now ... neutral

I love hot weather, and cold weather. I acclimate very easily, just kind of naturally I guess. I also have never sun burned, despite laying in the Florida sun all day in the summer with no sun screen on as a kid. sweatdrop Probably not good for me, but I didn't burn, which made me happy. Of course, over in Egypt, i would not risk it, I would think. I would get a sweet brown/ bronze tan though! ^__^

I don't easily burn myself but in Egypt when I spent alot of time in the swimming pool (instead of going on my excursion trips) my shoulders burned so much!

Even if you do not burn easily generally I strongly advise that you do wear sun tan lotion when in Egypt!! sweatdrop
