im a junior and have been in colorguard all 3 years. there is this senior girl that joined last year and has been pushing me aside and stealing my captain position. and then our instructor (a senior in college, angela) said that she was writing a flag solo for the trumpet solo in our music and there would be tryouts for the position. i REALLY wanted it and i learned the first 8 counts (thats all she taught me) and the senior girl has a study hall and was kissing angela's a** and i just found out that angela gave HER the solo scream is it fair that she kisses angela's a** for a week and gets the solo? its not my fault i dont have study halls and want to do well acadmeically and in guard! im taking 2 college courses, pre calculus, chemistry, advanced accounting and a few other classes and i have NO TIME during school besides band to practice. i go to EVERY practice! i just want an opinion from other people before i go and scream at the both of them.

I don't think it's very fair. But don't yell, because then she'll be mad. Just calmly approach your instructor when the senior is not around, and calmly present your postition and why you think you should get the solo. Don't use any negative words about the senior, and definately don't call her a suck up, because that reflects badly on your instructor as well.
