This was mainly inspired by Ouran High School Host Club and "The Big List of Gaian Stereotypes" thread in the GCD.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Host Club, (AKA those of you who are living under a rather large rock) it focuses around a girl who is mistaken for a boy getting roped into participating in... well... a school's Host Club. I won't get into the plot for the sake of the fact that I'm lazy, but here's the gist of it: Each of the hosts in said club have different attributes that they take advantage of in hopes of pleasing thier clients- many of which, I realized, are BL stereotypes as well as those in Shojo manga.
So I decided it would be fun to compile a list of as many BL character stereotypes as possible.
... This will be one looonnnng list. whee
Now, the stereotypes don't have to be limited to uke and seme categories, though there are some character traits that are exclusively one or the other. Example, the Stoic yet Sensitive type can apply to both uke and seme characters, but the Whiny and Childlike Idiot character is usually exclusive to the uke. (Because that would make one weird seme.) Ya get me?
(If it is the case that the type of character is exclusively seme or uke, I'll put that on the list. *nodnod*)
Also, if you may, include your favorite "type" of character. Just for fun. X3 (I'm partial to the Megane (or glasses-wearing) characters, myself. Oshitari Yuushi, Tezuka Kunimitsu, Inui Sadaharu [finding a pattern in fandom yet?] Kyouya Otori, it goes on and on...)

-uke (almost) always has really big eyes/long hair/some other rediculously girly trait
-uke (almost) always is reluctant
-or uke is helplessly in love with a seme who doesn't want him
-someone (almost) always has a tragic past
-someone (almost) always has an attitude problem or something
I have more, but these ones always come to mind.

I have more, but these ones always come to mind. To be honest, I was more looking for CHARACTER types (Lolita type, Megane Type, Cool type, stuff like that) rather than patterns in BL and plot, but those are good observations. XD You pretty much hit the nail on the head with the "Someone always having a tragic past" point.

Heh, I've done this kind of thing before. A while ago, I compiled some two lists with about a dozen steryotypical/common types of uke and seme. Each type was complete with paragraph-long descriptions, and some had example characters mentioned. I'd have to root around in the files of my old computer to find it, but I will if anyone wants me to. So, anyone want me to find and post my 'Uke and Seme Types' list?
