Last night was my last first game. I am a senior this year and last night was the last time I would take the field for a first performance with our highschool band. However, I thought I would be more depressed than I was. You see, I am hoping to try out for Spirit from JSU's bassline in the fall. Having followed my boyfriend, who plays mellophone for Spirit, around this summer, I have finally decided to take a chance and try-out myself. But, nevermind that.... Last night we only played 3 of our 4 numbers. We don't exactly have our 4th number ready yet, so we improvised. The 3rd number is a percussion feature. I sort of goofed-up the snare solo, but I don't think the crowd could tell any difference. To me though, it was just another performance. I didn't get any special kick out of it and I didn't feel saddened by the fact that it was the beginning of the end. I am a hard-core band nerd and have been for 7 years. So, it's not as if I don't care anymore. I guess it's just the fact that I know that hopefully, there are better things to come.
For any current senior drummers out there, or those who have already graduated, have you ever felt this way? Did you enjoy your last first game or did you feel a bit disheartened by the whole ordeal? I would really like to know if how I feel is okay?
