ATG Idol - A Karaoke Contest

That's right, fellow ATGers! Lin Sentama is here to provide a contest to our little secluded family!

The super amazing show (or in my opinion, the horrendously stupid show) has finally made it's way to Any Topic Guild, Gaia. Folks, let's get ready for the contest where you get to choose the person to be the next (and, technically the first) ATG Idol!

Contest Objectives

The contest will progress in a similar fashion to the real American idol.

Week One: Open to all. Record a clip of yourself singing the song of your choice, preferably keeping it between 15 and 45 seconds. Once the deadline for entries is reached, the top eight contestants will be selected by way of one weeklong poll.

Week Two: The top 8 compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.

Week Three: The top 7 compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.
Theme: Pre-90's
Voice Post Deadline: 2006 September 24 @ 0:00 Pacific Standard Time

Week Four: The top 6 compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.
Theme: Musical/Broadway

Week Five: The top 5 compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.

Week Six: The top 4 compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.

Week Seven: The top 3 contestants compete and whoever gets the fewest votes at the poll is eliminated at the end of the week.

Week Eight: The top 2 contestants compete to see who will be the first ATG Idol! This will also determine once and for all the order in which prizes will be selected. Whichever contestant gets the most votes wins!

Thread Rules

• As always, Guild and Gaia TOS rules are in effect and supercede any rules made in this thread.
  
• Please do not bump; have some meaningful conversation.
  
• Please do not insult/harass the contestants. However, constructed criticism is encouraged.
  

Participant Rules

• To participate please post or Private Message a link of a music file where you are singing and send me a trade of at least 100 Gold.
  
• Any amount of gold over 100 Gold will be considered a donation towards my quest.
  
• It can be any song you'd like. However, it would be nice to provide a title and artist, if available.
  
• Accompaniment is not necessary.
  
• Please do not adjust/enhance your voice at all with any software.

• Please give a rating to each person!
  
• Please do not vote with mules.

Resources

Here are some resources that should help many of the ATGers do their best in this contest.

eSnips

eSnips is where I store all of the karaoke files that I make over the Internet. They allow up to one gigabyte of storage and haven't failed me yet. In addition, they offer direct downloading of the files.

Putfile

Putfile is another file upload service - similar to eSnips. The difference is that it allows unlimited uploads compared to the one gigabyte that eSnips offers. Putfile does not allow direct downloads of the files.

Audacity

Audacity is a FOSS Audio Editor and Recorder for Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS X, and GNU/Linux. In addition to recording new input and editing existing music files, the many plugins available (normalize volume, raise/lower pitch, increase volume, manipulate tempo) makes this a decent audio editor and recorder for the people that cannot afford better tools. In addition (with a bit of work) Audacity can also create MP3 files. Please remember that, if you use Audacity for a song entry, modifying the voice in any way other than increasing the volume is illegal.

As with any contest, enjoy yourself. While the prizes are an incentive, having fun with the ATG family is a bigger priority!
