Follow these rules and keep everyone (especially the Mods) happy campers! 3nodding Believe us, we'll know if you decided to skip over this thread.

1. Typos happen. We mods make them, too. However, there is a mystical process called "proofreading," as well as an "edit" button. They are there for a reason. There is no excuse for rampant typos when you can go back at any time to fix them. If you must, try typing your posts in Word and running a spelling and grammar check before posting.

2. This is a list of acceptable Redwall species:*

The Goodies:
Badgers
Rabbits
Mice
Otters
Hares
Squirrels
Moles
Voles
Hedgehogs
Shrews
Raccoons (Yes, there has been one instance of a raccoon in Redwall, and thus they will be accepted)
Sparrows (And basically any other kind of bird. Though when playing a bird, it really will be to your discretion whether they are good or bad)
Beavers

The Baddies:
Rats
Foxes
Weasels
Stoats
Ferrets
Wolves (Another note, we don't want everyone just deciding to be wolves, and I am only adding this to the list because there was an instance of a villain (Urgan Nagru) having worn a wolf pelt)
Wolverines
Wildcats

*We know that some people have made characters of species not on this list. Because they were made before we posted this rule, they may continue to use them. In the future, however, if you REALLY want to use a creature not on this list, you must PM one of the mods either showing where in the series the species appears (Because Tracy composed this list and is not perfect in naming every species that appeared in all 18 books) or giving a convincing reason why you should be permitted to use the character anyway. smile

3. Do not use characters from the books. It pains us to see our favorite characters abused so rudely. (See fanfiction.net if you don't know what I mean.) Of course, visions of Martin are an obvious exception.

~By the way, having your characters be descendents of book characters, while not banned, is discouraged. Firstly, it cuts it close on the "no canon characters" rule. Secondly, if you're creative enough to RP, you're surely creative enough to create a wholly original character.

4. Cursing is permitted; we are not your babysitters. However, keep it PG-13 at most. That's Gaia TOS anyway.

5. Tracy has given us an eloquent phrasing of the "no power-playing" rule.
Quote:
NO MODING. This can be very basic, and yet in another way, a difficult concept to grasp. We all know you can't go "Character A stabbed Character B through the heart and killed him." But then there's the tricky, masking way of moding. Like, say you go "Character A stuck his footpaw out and tripped Character B." This is wrong. The other player ALWAYS decides what happens to their character. The correct wording would be: "Character A stuck his footpaw out in attempt to trip Character B." Character B's player would decide if their character fell. Along with this, it's really quite annoying if your character never takes a hit. Make smart choices about this.

Kay?

6. Think twice before criticizing the mods' method of RPing. wink Our group has been going for over three years. We must be doing something right...

7. Avoid making too many good vermin. Wait. Nevermind.

Quote:
"If you completely disregard the rules of the English language and fail to proofread when role-playing, we WILL notice. If you can successfully read the Redwall novels, then you can also pull off decent grammar. A total lack of proofreading will irk the local Grammar Nazis and could end in you ultimately losing your role-playing privileges or even banned from the guild."

8. NO 20TH CENTURY LINGO. We know today we've managed to come up with slang for just about every thing in the world, but if it wasn't used in Redwall-esque times, don't use it. This includes things like, "WURD." or "WASSUP"
Please. Just no.

9. Above all; HAVE FUN!

On second thought. Type your posts in Gaia, then copy them into Word to spellcheck them. I typed those rules in Word and then we had to go through and edit out all of the crazy little symbols that took the place of ellipses, quotes, and apostrophes. x.x
