Sumimasen ga... [ Excuse me but...]

Please call a doc. = Ishi o yonde kudasai.

Doctor is isha. Ishi is a stone.

Where it is? = Koko made ikura desu ka?

Doko desu ka? = Where is it?
Koko made ikura desu ka? = How much it costs as far as/till here?

Words that should have a long vowel:
Moo = Already
Hoshii = Want
Sayoonara ( But "sayonara" is also used, I think ) = Goodbye
Arigatoo = Thank you
Kankoo = Sightseeing, tourism
Ryoogae = Foreign currency exchange
Chuumon = Order, request
Kanjoo = Bill

And I think yokatta is writen with just one K, and pittari with a double T.

hello. i gotta a question. i hear the word kokoro a lot. . . . . what does it mean exactly?
PostPosted: Sat May 13, 2006 8:59 pm
Just a quick reply to your question.. "kokoro" is mostly attached to the meaning of "heart" but also along the lines of the heart, as in "mind" and "spirit"

kokoro.. heart

Hai, genki desu
Iie, dame desu

You wouldn't say yes or no to answer ogenki desu ka? hai actually means "you are correct" not yes and iie means "you are wrong" not no.

suwaru means to sit. sawaru means to touch.

Also "Hai, genki desu" is very common way of responding when asked about ones condition. 'Hai' has many uses in the Japanese language, and so it cannot be limited to a single definition. Same with 'iie,' though it is used less.

Well, there's many many different dialects in Japan. From a textbook you learn Tokyo Japanese, which, from I hear is VERY different from Osaka Japanese. Most of the comedians in Japan come from Osaka, and at least their way of speaking is almost uncomprehensible to me xd

All of my Japanese friends come from Himeji, and they add "ne" to the end of almost every sentence. So, the language varies.

I guess it makes sense.
