Well, I'm teaching my younger friend. I am starting him off with the "Genki I" textbook. Is this recomended?

Genki is actually a pretty good textbook and one of the most popular in the country. I think for learning on your own, it's a pretty good guidebook. I believe that's the one that's written by a professor that specializes in grammar, so if you're teaching in an outside of a classroom format, it would probably be a pretty strong resource. The trick with any textbook though is that you often have to supplement it with extra vocabulary.

I definitely recommend the Genki Book. If you have the workbook which accompanies it, I think it helps a lot. The grammar set up is nice and clear. It's also good practice for reading hiragana too.
(Unlike some books which use "ti" for "chi" *cough cough* It kinda drives me mad.)

I use the Genki textbook and I think it's the best. I really don't think the workbook or exercies help much, but that's just me. I work in weird ways. xd
