EDIT: Sorry for posting this in the wrong place, but the character discussion forum is screwing up for me and it's the same for alot of other places and threads in gaia guilds at the moment.
---
This is an analysis of the characters from the view of a player with enough credentials to make such an analysis of the characters, just read my guide and you'll know what I'm talking about.
This is also based on two things:
1. What is shown in the trailer 2. What can be assumed from watching the trailer
So by the looks of things, it'll be out of Snake and Zero suit Samus for who's best, mainly because there has been no footage of them playing yet.
I doubt Wario will be high on the tier list because of well...to be frank, it'd be like fusing Gannon and Bowser, he'd end up being a middle tier character.
MetaKnight looks like he may have some pretty good priority attacks, but the only thing it and Pit have going for them is their disjointed hit boxes, so I'd be suprised if they made it any higher than middle tier when the game is released.
Zero suit Samus looks like she'll develop the Marth syndrome, and may become even more better (And unfair) than Marth already is.
Not only does it look like she'll have an extremely unfair weapon like Marth's, it can also be assumed that her weapon will double as a projectile.
The worst they could do is give Z.S.Samus a stun projectile, it'd be like giving Marth the ability to Short hop laser, which would pretty much move Marth from 3rd best to First, Fox and Sheik would have nothing to respond with.
Snake will likely be a high tiered character as well, assuming that he gets his SOCOM to work with, it's likely players will develop a short hop SOCOM technique with him, and if it has the same effect as Falco's then he'll be right up there on the tier list.
Well that's just my opinion, I think when it comes out I'll have my fun, and when the time comes to get serious about practicing a character for tournament play it'll be out of:
Sheik Fox Marth Peach Falco Z.S.Samus and Snake

Personally, I'm going to reserve judgement on characters until I've played the game myself, and I've seen what each character can do.
If I remember correctly, Pika, Ness and Kirby were all great characters in SSB, but are all low ranked in SSBM. I wouldn't be shocked if the tier for the existing characters changed in Brawl. In fact, I'm expecting it. :/
I agree with your take on Metaknight and Wario. MetaKnight probably would play like Kirby with a sword, and I think his floatiness will limit his playability. Wario just didn't impress me. :/
As for Snake, it didn't show him fight, so I can't comment (I'd assume he'd be good, though). I'm just assuming Zero Suit Samus will kick a**.
I don't know what to think about Pit, though. He seemed alright from what I saw, I just wish I could have seen more. His uber-jumps did impress me, though. I highly doubt that they'd be useful in competitive play (aside from recovery), but they impressed me nonetheless.
Oh, and I lol'ed at Marth with a SHL. I hope Zero Suit Samus won't be that broken. D:

yea i agree with him.u cant juge a book by its cover ya no. That's true, but I'm just trying to work with what we have so far. If you look at the SSBM tier list, you can see that almost none of the top tiered characters have poor DI, and from what I saw, Pit and MetaKnight had poor DI, and weren't fast fallers. If they have aerial physics like Kirby then that also means they won't be able to SHUFFLC (Short Hop - Fast Fall - L-Cancel) their aerials well, and if this game is going to have a greater emphasis on aerial combat, then they could be in trouble. The only multi jumping character that has ever been received well is Jigglypuff because of her ENOURMOUS DI, which Jiggly players used to develop her 'Wall of Pain' technique. From what I saw of Meta and Pit, it doesn't look like a wall of pain would be possible simply because of their DI. The reason I assume Snake and ZS Samus will be the best is because generally most characters are better than characters with poor DI. Kirby is the 3rd worst in the game, and Luigi who also has poor DI is a low tier character. We can also assume that both MetaKnight and Pitt will also have high traction like Kirby and have poor wavedashing. It looks like Meta won't have a projectile, but we can't be sure, which will hamper his placement if that is the case. Pitt looks to have a bow attack, but if it is like Link's then it won't be utilised very much in high level play, so it would have to have a quick attack animation for it to be at all useful. Sure, they have disjointed hit boxes, but then look at Roy and Link, they both have swords too and they aren't that good either. All I'm saying is that this is what can be surmised from both the trailer and what Sakurai has said about the game so far. I really want to play as MetaKnight though smile

I don't think three seconds of video is enough to say for certain that Pit has poor DI, and I certainly don't think he'd have the aerial physics of Kirby. I can see you saying that about MetaKnight, but from what I've seen he doesn't seem to be that similar to Kirby. They're both far from fast fallers, but they don't seem floaty either. As for their DI, I simply didn't see enough footage of their gameplay to comment on that.
How can we assume Pit and Meta have high traction like Kirby? I'm not trying to undermine you, I'm just wondering what made you think that.
What I meant about Pit's uber-jumps is that I personally liked them. Not for gameplay or whatever, it just looked cool. Liek whoa. o:

To be honest, I'd throw Kirby's DI in with Sheik's, in that it's the kind of DI that can't be used against you (IE hard to be chainthrown) but leaves you unable to SHUFFL attacks quickly (Due to the long amount of time needed to reach the apex of the short hop before initiating the fast fall)
Or maybe it's just me? I just think that even Marth is better at SHUFFL'ing despite his floatiness because he reaches the apex (Top) of his shorthop faster.
So I'll give you the benefit of the doubt I suppose, but that 3 seconds of footage of them fighting in the air just before it shows Samus is pretty convincing to me rolleyes
Assuming that Nintendo will follow the *5 jumps = high traction* equation it has done so melee, then I came to that conclusion.
Is there anything to suggest that Meta and Pitt would have low traction?
I just assumed that t counter-act their 5 jumps, they would also give them high traction, to stop them from teching after being hit, only to slide right off stage at a horrible angle, not allowing them to recover well.
Anyway, I think that Snake may have an interesting shield. With the emphasis place on the box he used (The box joke is a big one all throughout MGS...3 had the funniest joke about Snake feeling as though he had returned to a safe place in the box) I think the box may end up as his shield, with bits of it flying off in place of the shield being weakened.
There's also the SuperMoves, I really hope they can be turned off, or they are properly thought out, it could destroy this game in the professional scene.

I agree on the supermoves. They look great and all but something like that could really be abused by some. Unless they're a one time per match use or per life. It makes you wonder, could be an item that gives you the ability. We all saw Mario grab an orb before that.

Kay. I get what you're saying. My point is, it's impossible to say "this character will be good, and this character won't" just from a trailer. Existing characters are bound to be nerfed, and gameplay mechanics are sure to change, even if it's minor.
Like I already said, I won't judge these characters untill I've played them myself, and know their movesets. I mean, a lot of the 'better' characters in SSBM are dependant on 2-3 moves in proffesional play. Think about it, what would Peach be without her dsmash and dash a?
I was actually just talking to my little brother about Snake's sheild. XD He's played MGS way more than I have, but still, the box should definately be his sheild.
I think (hope/pray) that the supermoves will be items, since I noticed Mario grabbing the orb thingy too. D:

I'll concede to that Indigo, and it's not as though they aren't still subject to change, I'm just saying that this is an...educated assumption if you will.
Yeah, I think it may be safe to assume that the Supers will be item based. They probably wanted to put more emphasis on them because of how cool they looked.
The same goes for the Nintendog item.
They probably will have a host of new items (Rations and claymore mines anyone?) but they probably chose to put more emphasis on these two.

The Nintendog raises questions. What will it do? For some reason I picture it as Mortal Kombat's "Toasty!" guy. xd

Yeah i doubt that nintendo has put anything in the trailer that would reveal the true nature of the ssbb game characters..also it would depend on the player..does the player like to play with fast, slow, strong, weak characters, it really matters about the players preference, but yeah, i won't judge any characters until i've actually player the game, oh yeah, i haven't checked..when does the wii/ssbb come out?

I believe the Wii comes out this fall as for SSBB has no date yet. We pretty much got more of a teaser trailer at E3. Only a small list of new characters as the game is still in the works. If I have to take a stab in the dark I'll say after E3 next year.
