Myself I think being content is more sound than being happy. Its easier to maintain a state of contentness. Where as Happiness is fleeting. Let us know your thoughts.

I suppose it depends on how you define the two terms. I think their a bit the same, one is just more extreme than the other. Personally, I think both are just as easy to keep around. I consider contentment to be excepting and pleased with the way life is. I consider happiness to be at peace and enjoy one's life. The only difference I can see is that one is having a bit more fun.

A valid point that is. And I have to agree it does have a lot to do with how one defines those two terms. For me however contentment lies more in the middle of the road. Its what life is when it is neither bad nor good. When life is life. Its the platue between the high mountains of Happiness and the Low valleys of sadness. To me its the middle ground.

I think of it slightly differently. I think I'm happy most of the time -by nature, I'm a happy person, but contentment is a different thing altogether. There are all sorts of bumps in my life -exams is the big one currently, that disturb my contentment. My happiness however, is more difficult to move -it has to do with my choices about how I live my life.

Well as previously stated its a matter of opinion, but as this is a debate (sort of) I will say that being happy and being content are both absolutly imposible to keep around for long periods of time. Because of the effect it has on us being happy gets boring after a while and being content simply leads to stagnation so it's safe to say that it is impossible to maintain either and even if we could doing so would lead to it's own destruction.
But thats just my two cents.
