Bear Claw — Kota's cursed left arm ends in an enormous bear paw with long claws. Besides being capable of considerable physical damage, the paw has the supernatural ability to capture and hold souls. Souls held within it can remain contained rather than immediately passing on.
Bat: A well-loved baseball bat used with considerably less concern for its intended purpose.
Abilities:
Enhanced Strength — The bear curse has given Kota strength beyond that of an ordinary human. The transformed left arm is considerably stronger than her human arm, making strikes from the bear paw particularly dangerous.
Enhanced Senses — Kota possesses heightened hearing and smell. These can help her detect nearby movement or track someone, but they can also be overwhelmed by particularly intense sounds or scents.
Soul Capture — Kota's bear claw can seize and contain a soul. This ability is directly connected to the curse and is one of the stranger aspects of her transformation. A captured soul can be held within the paw, though Kota's understanding of exactly why the curse can do this—or what its ultimate limitations are—is incomplete.
Minor Regeneration — The curse allows Kota to recover from minor injuries somewhat faster than a normal human. This does not make her invulnerable. Serious wounds remain serious wounds.
The Bear's Curse — Kota's greatest strength is also potentially her greatest problem. Extreme emotion, injury, or excessive use of her supernatural abilities can cause the bear curse to become increasingly dominant. This can increase her physical power while reducing her judgment and control.

History:
Kota Blackwood wasn't born half bear.
She was once completely human.
Her transformation began with a cursed bear and a loss she wasn't willing to accept. After someone she loved was killed protecting her from the creature, Kota hunted the bear responsible and killed it.
Unfortunately, killing the monster didn't undo what had happened.
Desperate to recover what she'd lost, Kota attempted a ritual involving the remains of the cursed creature. Whatever was supposed to happen that night didn't.
Instead, the ritual went catastrophically wrong.
The curse attached itself to Kota.
Her body changed. Brown fur spread across the left half of her face, a bear ear emerged through her hair, and her left arm transformed into an enormous clawed bear paw. Stranger abilities followed—along with questions Kota still hasn't managed to answer.
Exactly what happened during the ritual, what the curse actually is, and why it chose to remain attached to her are mysteries Kota continues to investigate.
Not that she's particularly responsible about it.
Danger tends to make Kota curious long before it makes her cautious.
Fighting Style:
Kota is primarily a close-range brawler.
She isn't interested in looking graceful while beating someone with a baseball bat.
Her fighting style combines the overwhelming strength of her bear arm with claws, punches, kicks, grappling, and whatever blunt object happens to be conveniently available. Her smaller size can make her surprisingly quick, and she prefers unpredictable movement over formal technique.
Kota also enjoys provoking opponents.
She jokes, taunts, asks entirely inappropriate questions, and occasionally behaves as though getting threatened is the most interesting thing that's happened to her all day. Some of this is strategic.
Some of it is just Kota.
Her biggest combat weakness is that the more she relies on the curse, the harder it becomes to distinguish between Kota controlling the bear and the bear controlling Kota.
