“Well uh, I was expecting a bit… more to all of this.” Lantana said, disappointment filling her voice. Butternut was still looking around. “Oh come on, it will still be interesting to see what flowers you pick! Or ones that pick you!” The masked mare chuckled. Lantana couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Butternut had invited Lantana to the local flower festival that her herd held every year after being invited by Lantana before. She hadn’t been sure if Lantana would like it, but even if Lantana grumbled the whole time, Butternut knew that the corn would still have some fun.
“Every flower has a meaning! And-“ Butternut looked at the flowers before picking a few for her friend. “I think these describe you perfectly right now.” She said with a giggle, giving her friend the hyacinth, violet, and marigold. Lantana gave a questioning look to her friend as the other put the flowers in front of her. “Okay, so what do these mean then?” Lantana cast her friend a suspicious look.
“Hmm… probably that you’re stubborn to a fault and will find yourself liking this festival more than you thought you would.” Butternut said with a giggle. Her friend could only blush, her face darkening more. “Oh come on! That’s not fair since you know them.” Lantana grumbled a bit more. “Fine, I’m going to get some flowers for you and then we can make our bouquet out of them.” She said, stepping up to look at the flowers in front of her.
Butternut had chosen three, so she might as well do the same. Lantana decided to pick the chrysanthemum, sunflower, and carnation. The sunflower fit her friend especially well in Lantana’s opinion. She put the flowers in front of her masked friend. “All right, what do you get from those then.” Butternut took a moment to look at the flowers before smiling. “No, why are you smiling?! I can tell that you are!” Lantana said, guessing how her friend was reacting. Somehow she could always tell when Butternut was trying to hold back a trick or a laugh. “Hmm, nothing much. I just think it means that we’re both going to find that making bouquets are fun.”
Lantana sighed and rolled her eyes again. “Yes, I’m sure that’s what that means.” She said with a huff. She picked up all of the flowers and began moving towards the bouquet area. “You muming mith me?” She asked, her mouth now full of flowers. Butternut nodded and moved alongside her friend, still giggle a bit.
They both moved over to the area that had the string and the small pieces of parchment that were used to tied all of the flowers together. Lantana set the flowers down while Butternut pranced up next to her. “So… how do we make this thing?” Lantana asked, looking at what was before them. Lantana moved to grab a piece of parchment and a string. “First we have to arrange them. Though since we don’t have any more than one of any of the flowers, ours is definitely going to be unique.” Just like their friendship! : D
She quickly set the flowers in a way to make them layered. The sunflower, Hyacinth, and Marigold were put in the back. Then, the marigold and chrysanthemum were put in the middle. Finally the violet was put at the front, being the smallest flower it was better to have it at the very front compared to all of the others that they had picked which were much bigger. “There we go! I think that looks good!” Butternut said with pride as she moved to let Lantana take a look. Lantana took a quick look before nodding. “Yeah, I think it looks good. And I have to admit that it did look fun. Can we make more?” Butternut chuckled. “Of course! Though we can’t go too crazy. My pack can only carry so much. Maybe if we go for the other flowers instead… We could go for ones that smell good together? Or maybe we want to be more color-coordinated…” She kept muttering about possible combinations.
“Mind if we get one that has flowers that are okay for a rabbit to eat? I know of a certain stallion and his rabbit friend that I could give it to.” Lantana said with a grin. Butternut was now the one looking at her friend with suspicion. “Oh? And what exactly were you thinking of doing with it?” Lantana grinned. “Peace offering really!” Well, That and perhaps to get their guards down so she could jump scare them a bit.
