Now... Claribelle adored her children, perhaps even moreso than her adoration to her beloved and the Hive itself, but her secondary love comes from the flowers themselves. She prides herself in being able to not only grow and maintain the flowers, but to as well be able to 'speak' to them in a manner.
Stepping gently into the field she's tended to even before her induction into her herd, she carefully stepped through the well trottened pathway from attempting to avoid all of her precious flowers.
"Now my children, I've a special lesson today for if you choose to take over my garden when I grow too old to keep on my own." She mused, making almost a perfect turn around once the opening widened enough to grant her the movement. "Something of what the flowers themselves speak and mean."
Ilu in fact was interested in the complexities of the flowers. Not only was she aware of the fascinating nature of what the flowers do for not only the cycle of the environment in life and death itself but as well she knows that she continues a very crucial cycle in this land itself by doing what she does. While she has her own experiences with flowers, especially in those earlier years of learning to care for them and be careful as well (Thorns.... they can be sharper than they appear.) She's not as seasoned or wise to the complexities that her own mother has. Following behind, her ears perked curiously as she cranes her head a bit to see around her mother, curious to where she's to lead them. "You've my attention of course mother, but what exactly do you mean? Do we not already know of what the flowers wish to tell us?"
Taking up the back, as any good brother would was Florence. While he himself wasn't as interested in all of the flowers secrets -- due to still trying to really find himself and what he wants to do in this world -- he still was thankful to be able to indulge his mother in her lessons and sometimes he really did enjoy the information. Craning his own head to see around his sister in the opposite way, he focuses just a fair bit more of trying to dodge flowers. "Yes... erm, don't we? What more could they tell us that we've not already learned?" he would inquire, before realiing the two had begun to slow down to a stop ahead.
As the pathway began to widen a bit into a more clear opening, she steps into it before taking a slow and methodical breath in. Enjoying each moment of the flowers distinct smells as they mixed with the warm grass and the pollen. With a smile, she looks to her children who stand at the beginning of the clearing and begins her lecture.
"Listening to the plants and their needs is one thing," Claribelle begins, moving a few steps forward as she stands in front of a patch of Lillies. Her paw raises, very gently moving it before she lowers it once more. "However -- the flowers themselves have their own language. A language all on their own... They house their own meanings, which can symbolize many things." Reaching down, she plucks the Lily she focused on and gently set it down in the middle of the clearing. "A lily -- for example. One could give them to their betroved as a symbol of their devotion."
Without skipping a beat, she moves to the carnations and plucks another to add next to the lily. "A carnation, a flower also to show ones affection and fascination to the recipient." Onto the next flower, she moves to the patch of Hyacinth, finding a particularly pink one to pluck from the ground. Instead of moving to add it to the slowly growing pile, she approaches Ilu and nods her head for her daughter to lower hers.
Without skipping a beat, Ilu let off a soft laugh as she leaned her head down for her mother to easily afixed the flower to her mane. "The actual flower language... the symbolism!" She almost gasped, waiting for her mother to turn back to the grove before raising her head once more.
"Precisely," Claribelle chimed, nodding her head but not yet turning around. "Hyacinth is for sincerity, one trait you carry so well." Moving to a particular section of the grove, she looks to the Orchids... gorgeous, but such a finicky one to care for. Looking back to her children, they both nodded as they knew they were the next ones but they would not be the ones that would be plucked. The bears harbor much respect for this flower. "If you notice my children, these orchids are actually quite similar to the both of you in color--" she teased, her wings giving a little flicker. "They represent strength, and especially in their colors they also represent rare beauty. They grow and thrive as you both grow and thrive on your own journeys." Though it may only be so correct... It's all symbolism after all.
Though something did call him to curiosity. With a bit of a head tilt, Florence piques up, "... Now, mother... is that as to why our names are in the manner they are?" As fascinating as it may seem, it truly occurred to Florence that he really did not seem to even inquire before as to why their family has the titles. He simply accepted it as it was for the most part. Glancing back to Ilu, who was attempting to hide her small smirk, he looked back to see more flowers his mothers mouth already.
Not wasting much more time, she had both lilacs and marigolds carefully in her mouth, moving back to her children as she motioned once more for them to lower their heads. Obliging without a word, she affixed one of each in their manes. One thing that she does seem to realize is perhaps she should have brought a helper with them for her lesson, but alas... too late! A thought for a later lesson though.
"Perhaps," She began, nodding to them as the raise their heads once more to meet her. "We do come from a line of flower keepers and it does seem to line up within our titles to what we choose to truly do in our lives. The flowers -- as we know -- do have their own meanings. Marigolds of creativity and warmth, and when it comes to it the flower is displayed during times of celebration to symbol good fortune. And the lilacs, granted to you my children... are symbols of youthful dreams. You're both still young, and have much time to decide upon your fates. If you so choose to continue our legacy garden, then that will be to you." Claribelle pauses, looking them both over with pride that only a caring mother can truly give. She sees the slight apprehension in Florence slowly fade as he nods. "But for now, you're both still so young, you're only seedlings sprouting from the dirt." She chuckles, going once more to pluck a few violets to add to the pile, along with a few more of the ones that she had already plucked to add to her bouquet.
Having been quiet for the moment, Ilu was really absorbing what her mother had to say. While it really hadn't crossed her mind that she could in fact really take another route if she preferred, she could sense the bit of apprehension that her brother had when it came to this place. He was a fair bit more clumsy overall and while she could tell he had fondness for the flowers... his head seemed to be elsewhere. Though once more, when she sees the bouquet becoming more full, her brow raised a bit. "Mother..." She began, smiling softly, "Do the flowers that were not brought to us intended for someone else?"
Her ears flickered at the question, and she can't help herself but to chuckle softly. Almost a hair embarrassed, but she knows she's been caught. "Perhaps it was a good idea that I had added the violet -- humility," She couldn't help herself, but arranging the arrangement and adding one last flower -- A Forget-me-not, she ever so gently lifts a paw above the arrangement, slightly pulling it in closer to her. "These may be for a certain individual that I am in close relations to, a certain--" A breath, how to word this... "Stallion that we're a part of an alliance to."
However, before she could say another word, she snatched the arrangement and between her teeth she tried to hide a giggle as she began to quickly step through and back towards the pathway. "But that is for another lesson another time! We'll have more flowers to learn about next time!"
Her children -- genuinely taken aback by her sudden flustered move, couldn't help but to look to each other for a solid few moments before laughing awkwardly. Seems as if the lesson was cut short, but Ilu did not regret asking what she did. Before the both of them were to depart themselves, they agreed that their next lesson has to be about what their mother meant when she said that.
