Flower: Camellia (Admiration and Perfection)

PostPosted: Fri Jul 24, 2026 9:57 am

User Image Somewhere deep in the dark woodlands sat an oasis of flowers. All types and colors. Some were in bloom, others waited for the right season but all were carefully kept and loved dearly. A sheer cliff face nearby hid a cavern where the flower keeper lived, but you'd almost never find her there.
A restless soul was the girl with the wisp. She only ever found peace amongst her garden. You see she wasn't blessed with claws like her older brother or older sister, and because of that she wasn't as much use to her grandmother Cho, but that didn't stop her from contributing to the family, for if nothing else she had the utmost admiration for what they all did. Each sibling contributed to the perfection of the whole, and this is why she took up gardening. Plants could be just as deadly as clawed feet.
A knowing smile graced her lips as she checked her camellia flower shrubs. Carefully studying the leaves for bug nibbles, or the roots for rot. She gathered up her watering can in her mouth and gently poured fresh stream water over the roots, only adding just enough to soften the soil but not drown it.

After tending to each and every species of plant with the method she knew best she felt her mind turning to her siblings and wondering when they would arrive. Today was their annual meeting where they all got together and shared what they've been doing. Chatting, some bullying of the sisters by the older brothers as was their usual ways, and just renewing family bonds. It was admittedly her favorite time of the year. Living this far out was a bit lonely but she was also the only sibling who currently had a permanent residence so her home was the best setting. The rest of them tended to wander more and not settle down roots, like her beloved flowers.
She laughed a bit, the sound soft and almost tinkling at the idea. Her family, her flowers, one in the same.

Watching her sister from a distance, she made sure she didn't make a sound so that she didn't disturb her. Scourge made sure she protected her sister as much as she could and was probably the deadliest of the siblings. Plague told her she inherited their grandmom's demeanor and a part of her felt proud at that fact.
She stepped forward after a few more minutes, she tilted her head at her sister as she watched her tend to her beloved flowers. "Why do you bother with these?" She asked her sister in a low tone. Scourge didn't fully understand getting attached to things or caring for things that weren't family. She would protect her family to the death if she had to, but this she didn't understand. She knew her sister enjoyed it though.
"Grandmom told me about how her mother loves flowers...maybe you should talk her into coming her one day. Seems like you have a similar interest." With a flick of her tail she wandered a little bit away from her making sure she didn't step on any of the flowers. "I think her name is Astraea..I haven't met her, but she is our great grandmother." Her red eyes let off this faint glow as she looked around the garden. "Do you need help with anything?"
She looked off into the distance with her ears twitching at approaching sounds. "There is someone or something coming.." She knew their brothers were suppose to meet them there, but she didn't trust anything.

Malice felt a slight panic arise in her chest when her sister spoke up behind her but it calmed quickly. She wasn't always the bravest of the siblings but tried to hide that part since her grandma demanded perfection and being startled like a tiny bird at the simplest of things wasn't perfection.
Turning to her red eyed sister with a smile, her ghostly wisp flitting in front of her eye making it look like she has three pupils before it wandered off again. "Scourge! I wasn't expecting you so soon sister." She walked over and bumped her nose affectionately with her sisters shoulder. She then looked over her flower field and responded, "Well I wasn't born with claws like you so I decided to follow in great grandma's hoofprints and pick up flowers. You'd be surprised dear sister how many spell death if consumed, besides Curse loves them. Makes his job easier so after his... ehem... nights with his victims a little poison and he's done. A lot less messy and fewer screams after all." Her face lit up with happiness as she surveyed her domain.

She'd heard it too and looked over to where her brothers now stood at the edge of her cave home. They were searching inside for her and it made her giggle a bit. "Brothers! Over here!" She called out happily, her eyes roving over their forms to ensure both were healthy and well fed. They were sometimes the worst among the family at taking care of themselves, their previously drunken father included.

Curse had spent the entire time bugging his brother on the long trail here to their sister's oasis of flowers. He couldn't help himself honestly, it was far too easy to bother him about this or that. He'd always been the playful brother choosing to hone his perfection in the bedroom and kill after. An assassin who didn't play with his prey a bit was no true assassin at all though his grandmother didn't exactly approve of his methods. He'd always shrugged and assured her he was doing just fine much to her annoyance.

He had been peeking into the cavern that Malice called home when the soft singsong voice rang out and he turned to see her amidst her flowers. Of course she was there. She was always there. Did she even sleep he often found himself wondering. "What a restless girl eh brother?" He shifted his dark gaze over to Plague with that ever present half smile he had on.

Scourge huffed at her sisters words. She remember their mother telling them how much grandmother doted on those born with claws. She knew Cho found them to be superior, but in all honesty Scourge could care less. She didn't care to be doted on and certainly didn't care to be placed above her siblings. They all had various skills that were of use in different ways. She was just considered the most brutal of them all. Plague was more of a brute. "I know...we each have different skills that are beneficial. If we didn't I think mom would think of herself as a failure." She knew her mother had a tough time raising their brothers. She heard the stories from them.

When she heard her sister call for their brothers, she darted her gaze their way seeing them lazily walking up. She had always been closer to Malice then her brothers, but that didn't mean she didn't love them any less. In fact they all had a pretty close bond, she just felt more comfortable around her sister. "Here to get more poison for your...escapades?" She asked in a flat tone to Curse.

Plague noticed his brother's grin and rolled his eyes. "I think they both are pretty restless just they hide it better." He mumbled as he walked up to their sisters letting out a small laugh at Scourge who was clearly poking fun at Curse.

If they asked PLague how he was doing he would tell them not the greatest. He never liked worrying his sisters so he kept more things to himself or dumped all his stress on his brother. Curse didn't seem like he minded and was usually a good listener. It had always been that way since before Malice and Scourge arrived, it was just the two of them. He was slowly coming to terms with who he was and having to raise his son in secret he didn't know exactly how to break the news to anyone. He was honestly afraid to. Not because of what happened, but because he kept it a secret for so long. His parents never knowing their grandchild and Cho. Oh god Cho would kill him. She was big on family and that would be the last straw especially now that his son was grown.

Snapping himself out of his thoughts, he looked at the flowers. "Is there anything you need help with?" He asked Malice softly.

Curse rolled his eyes at Scourge when she started in on his habit of jumping into bed with his targets before smiling vivaciously. "Oh my someone sounds a wee bit jealous little sister..." He knew she wasn't but it was still fun to poke a prod at her about his lecherous nights with victims who ended up dead come morn. "And not this time, I'm still plenty stocked up on my favorite that our darling baby sister makes, no, we came to visit like we always do. Once a year remember to keep those family bonds tight and to trade stories of how we're perfecting our talents. Or do you still not kiss and tell Scourge?" He was always poking fun or being a snark. It was ever his way and it drove the women in his family nuts. Men too probably. Plague was for sure sick of his constant remarks but blood was thicker than water especially in their little group.

She knew her sister was right, that mother would count herself a failure if they didn't all have their own unique skills because each of them was an individual. Claws or hooves Hex loved all four of them equally and wanted them all to thrive in their choices, "I'm happy here Scourge, I promise. I love my flowers and don't do this for the family but for me. My skills lie in botany and I'm honestly happy here." She smiled again, her eyes closed for a brief moment to show how true the smile and her feelings were.

Malice felt herself getting a bit annoyed with her older brother. He was always cracking a joke or making a barbed comment. "Goodness Curse you really are..." She stopped herself from using the more vulgar word she wanted to and replaced it deftly with another, "Incorrigible." She cleared her throat and looked to Plague, "I appreciate the offer dear brother but I didn't sleep well last night so got a head start on my chores. Everything is already weeded, watered, and de-bugged." She smiled happily but there were dark circles under her eyes where the little wispy friend moved around but always stayed within the vicinity of her right eye. She hoped they'd just ignore it and not say anything, but braced herself for the possibility of being lectured by all three of them. Her eyes flitted to the camellia bushes and she realized how oddly right they were and wondered if that was why she chose them for her garden despite them not having any poisonous properties like the others. Great grandmother Astraea has said that each flower had a meaning and she recalled this one was admiration and... Oh goodness was was the second part... It took her a moment but she found it in her tired brain, perfection. That was it. How oddly fitting for her then for she admired them all for how perfect she perceived them to be while her own failings dug at her.

Scourge huffed at Curse before looking off into the horizon. She always made sure they were safe from danger. She was always alert and focused on everything around them. "I'm not jealous. It will be a miracle if any of us have children. With how...interesting our lives are and how overbearing our family is." She said in a flat tone. She was being honest. Their family was terrifying and if their mom and grandmother didn't approve of someone they would let it be known. So it was hard to even think about settling down when you had such high standards to go by. "Maybe we should make meeting more often? As much as I love hearing your snide remarks I think it would be interesting if the four of us went traveling together..of course that would depend on your busy schedule?" She stared at her brother Curse trying to ignore his snide remarks as much as possible. She had a bit of a temper when you annoyed her enough. The last thing she wanted to do was make this meeting turn sour because of it.

"As much as it pains me to admit..I am happy to see the both of you well." Scourge did miss them. She rarely admitted things like this so it definitely wasn't something she would say without a reason to. She turned to her sister and gave a small nod. "Now we just have to wait for them to bloom."

Plague felt a weight on his chest from Scourge's words. He had a child. Two in fact! The only one that knew was his brother. He let out a grumble as he listened to the two of them bicker at each other. It always happened at their meetings, but the idea of meeting them more often wasn't a bad idea. They didn't live terribly far and he could see them even going places together. The four of them taking on the world was a scary thought. "Then what should we do now?" He asked Malice before eyeing her perfectly taken care of garden. He didn't know how she did it, but it was always so pretty looking.

But there was one thing he noticed. The garden might look perfect, he could see how obsessed Malice was with it. He could see similar insecurities that he had when he was growing up. He moved in close to her and nudged her gently with his nose. "You know..you don't have to try to be so perfect? No matter what we are family just like your flowers are your family" He said to her quietly and hoped it didn't sound too cheesy. He gave her a nod of understanding and hope she would get the hint that he knew what she was going through.

Malice mulled over her sisters words about children with how unpredictable their lives could be and couldn't help but silently agree. She immediately latched onto the idea of them meeting more often and sharing more time together. She had to admit it was a bit lonely with only her flowers to talk to and while they could be the best listeners they couldn't exactly reciprocate the way family could. She danced a bit in place, the motion happy, though some might see it as nervousness and maybe it was. "I'd honestly really like that. It's always my favorite time of the year when we get to see each other again."

She blushed a bit when Plague offered his words of comfort and she was so grateful for it that tears almost welled up in her eyes. Of course he would get it. He, like her, took more after dad and got hooves only so he'd been there before her and had to make his own way in life however he could. "Thank you big brother..." She said softly so only he'd hear before she pranced a bit and said, "Well since all my chores are done how about we head over to this lovely wild orchard near the lake just over there and have some sweet treats while we catch up properly?" She said properly and looked pointedly to Curse who gave her a 'what?' expression before he agreed to.

------

And so all four left her little field of solace and spent the day by the lakeside sharing tells and munching sweet wild apples stolen from the middle of the tree with the assistance of Curse's wings. The higher the apple the better the taste, or so she always thought.
It was a long day together and one spent happily for all four of the siblings.

After some time they traveled back to Malice's home and decided they'd stay the night here before they went back to their own lives for a bit with the promise to spend more time together soon. Malice looked to the darkening sky, as the sunset gave way to the stars and couldn't help but think how perfect this day was and how much she admired her siblings for how strong they were...

With a happy sigh she joined the huddle of sleeping ponies, nudging Curse to stop him snoring so loudly, and fell into a soft dreamless sleep, the first she'd had in a long while.
