He was raised with the understanding that being pureblood meant you were better than half-bloods or those with dirty Muggle blood. As the oldest, Arden was expected to take over the family when his father passed away and was educated in things to prepare him for that. He displayed his magic prior to receiving his Hogwarts letter, and relished in the fact that he was going to the magical school.xxx𝒮𝒸𝒽𝑜𝑜𝓁 𝒴𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓈xxxxxxUpon arriving at the school, he joined the students for Sorting and the hat was barely set upon his head before calling out Slytherin. Arden didn't bother himself with making friends and spent most of his schooling focusing on his students. He was determined to wind up as the Minister of Magic, so he worked hard. However, he did make a few friends, and those few were people who could be of some use to him. If they were no longer useful, they were no longer his friends.
xxxFinishing his O.W.L. level classes with almost perfect grades, he continued all of the classes into the N.E.W.T. level. Again, he was intent on becoming the Minister of Magic and that was the best way to prove his worth. His attitude on blood status led to him being passed over for Prefect and Head Boy, but that didn't matter too much to him. It would detract from his studies, after all, and he wasn't the most helpful student out there.xxx𝒜𝒹𝓊𝓁𝓉𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxxxxxUpon graduating from Hogwarts, Arden started working for his father at the pawn shop their family owned, as well as getting a job with the Ministry in the Undersecretary's Office. His father also put him in charge of collecting the rent from the various clients who rented from the family. Arden expected, because of his blood status, that he would excel quickly through the ranks of the Undersecretary's office, but he didn't move as quickly as he hoped. He soon abandoned the job, but not his dream of being Minister.
xxxWhen he turned twenty-five, his father brought him into the fold about another facet of the business, the fact that they dealt in dark artifacts. His father sent him to Romania to collect an artifact from a former friend of his. However, Arden failed to anticipate a trap and was promptly arrested breaking into the vault. He spent ten years languishing in a Romanian prison before finally being released. Between being injured in the failed theft and his time in prison, Arden had developed a limp and needed to walk with a cane.
xxxReturning to the United Kingdom, his father placed him in charge of the family business since he'd fallen sick. They also arranged for Arden to marry a pureblood witch named Tristesse Thorne. She was much younger than Arden, but that suited him. The marriage produced two children, Haytham Percival and Lysandra Callidora. When she was five, her brother Georgie went off to Hogwarts, and she was seven when Charles left, then nine when Serafina joined them as well. She was ten years old when Georgie died in an accidental fall during Christmas break, despite her surge of magic trying to save him. It really scarred her, losing her brother like that, but it did confirm her magic. Her Hogwarts letter arrived several months later on her birthday.xxx𝒮𝒸𝒽𝑜𝑜𝓁 𝒴𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓈xxxxxxWhen she got to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Hufflepuff and quickly made lots of friends. It became quickly apparent that she was an ace with plants and excelled in the garden. However she struggled with offensive magic and Defense Against the Dark Arts in particular. She joined a couple clubs, enjoying the outdoors activities. Despite her brother's accident with falling, she continued to climb trees during the warm weather days. Going into her O.W.L. exams, she failed Defense, but that was expected when she couldn't face her boggart again. She passed her other courses and continued most of them into N.E.W.T. level.xxx𝒜𝒹𝓊𝓁𝓉𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxxxxxUpon graduation, she returned home to bad news. All her life, her parents had struggled financially, buried under a mound of debt. They were going to lose their ancestral family home, but they'd received an offer they couldn't refuse. A rather wealthy family was offering to pay off all their debts in exchange for Trist's hand in marriage. Tristesse couldn't say no, despite not loving the man. At eighteen years old, she was married to a man more than double her age. A few months after that, she was pregnant with her first child.
xxxTristesse might not have loved her husband, but she absolutely adored her child, her son Haytham. She doted on the boy so much that Arden said she was going to spoil him rotten. Trist often took him to the garden her husband allowed her to keep and would often sing or read to him. Even as he got older, she continued to coddle him. When Hayt was four, Trist became pregnant again, this time birthing a girl named Lysandra. Arden insist that she have a procedure done to prevent further pregnancy since two children was perfect for him.
xxxWith her two perfect babies, Trist continued to play the dutiful wife while enjoying her role as doting mother. She made sure that both of her children were raised well, worrying as Haytham became more and more like his father. She tried to steer him back towards acceptance, but he seemed to follow in the footsteps of the father he idolized. Lys, however, seemed to take more after her mother, much to Trist's relief.
