Kailani's doggie paddle was wobbly as she swam slowly through the water. It wasn't on purpose, mind you. Kailani found that just seemed to naturally happen after being wounded.

Her mother was going to kill her when she found out.

Possibly maimed?

Kailani shook her head, trying to dislodge those lies. The pain from her wounded ankle must be getting to her. Surely she was close to her home now, right? Kailani stopped zoning out to clue into her surroundings. It took longer than her usual daydreaming mind usually took and Kailani had to gulp down another paniced thought. She finally recognized the area around her, shoulders slumping slightly as she realized how far she still was from home.

Kailani shook her head again, this time wobbling a little more, the repitition of it adding a slight nausea to her pain. What she needed was a distraction. She looked down at the wrist she held against her chest. She knew she was in trouble if her mother found out the truth behind it. She had left the safety of their lake to travel upstream in the connecting river. It was one of her favorite things to do.... and also one of the main things she had been warned against. There were little to no hiding places for a small seathi on her lone in a river.

She had been doing her own thing, paying little attention to her surroundings as she reached her paw between two rocks for a pretty green rock that twinkled tantalizingly out to her. Unfortunately another rock got dislodge when her paw had grazed up against it. The rock then proceeded to take great offense and fall down, pinning her paw against the rock below it. No matter how hard she cried out, no one had heard her. No one had come to her rescue.

Kailani had finally managed to get the paw unstuck, but the damage was already done. Maybe if she was her sister she could hide the purple of a bruise in her markings. But with her white there was no hiding it. She'd just have to tell her mom she got bit by a whale.
