The Title: Waiting on the Storm
The Players: Celendria, Thorleif Rose, and Amadahy
Word Count: 760

Quote:
The weather is turning but Mother Nature has one last hurrah in store - it seems she has mustered up a blizzard that's blown down from the mountains and over the majority of the Kawani lands. This is highly unusual for this time of year, it seems winter was not ready to let go! How does your soquili fair in this blizzard? Do they see the signs early and manage to avoid it completely? Do they seek shelter in time and wait it out? Do they find themselves stranded and in danger? Do they fend for themselves or do they help others around them?

Life is a memory forever being written, followed, and remembered by generations to come...

As the snow-kissed ground shimmered beneath their hooves, A mare and stallion walked side by side. It had seemed endless walking within a dream to the mare as she now walked in sync with her companion. In her eyes, he was perfection as those white wings raised above his head, taking care of the pending snow lying on the branches in wait. Happiness was but a feeling, as a brisk yet menacing wind brushed past them. Without a murmur of sound, the stallion moved in closer to the mare he had sought for an eternity. He had finally found her, vowing to protect the gleaming, breathing natural ice mare. A wing draped around her radiated warmth as she shivered.

"This air is more frigid than the winds beneath the mountain," the mare spoke, leaning in toward the stallion for comfort. In all her years in the Kawani land, she had never felt such harmony as she did with him.

The stallion breathed on her neck reassuringly, "The skies have been changing lately. Snow and ice tend to accumulate near the spires. If it's too cold..."

The mare shook her head slowly, she mused, giving him an almost youthful smile.

"You are correct, Celendria. Do remember, though, there is precious cargo within you. I am but a humble stallion in your presence, my ice queen."

Celendria chuckled, a playful tug on his snowy mane. "You are too much, Thorlef. But, I thank you for your heartfelt words."

Thorleif smiled proudly, "There is a storm coming, though. I need to get us both to shelter, quickly". Moving forward, he led her toward a cave that pulled back from the snow that traveled further into the mountain. Once they were far enough back, she leaned into him, watching the snow fall heavily, feeling the cold of the wind. Ears perking forward, she frowned, a worried look on her crystalline face, "Thorleif, do you think they're okay at the base of the[ountain? I want to believe Cerylia is taking care of Tirranna. What if?" She paused.

Thorleif leaned in, his wing wrapped around her. " From everything you've told me... Cerylia is very much like her mother. An elder-to-be, a protector, a symbol for others to recognize. I'm sure. She follows your every word, and thus, I know the area is safe. Your two-legger has stood the test of time under your nurturing."

Celendria began shedding tears with a nod, "I know they are safe, somehow I know. I just... worry".

Thorlief buckled his front legs, then his back, bringing himself to lie down. "Let's not think about anything right now. Come, I will keep us warm," he murmured as he nipped softly at her long mane.

Celendria sighed, her own legs buckling as she moved in beside him. Head weary with worry, she leaned into him, feeling the heat generated from his strong form.

Thorleif's own head leaned into hers, his eyes feeling heavy as that strong wing wrapped around her. Celendria, though, continued to watch the snowstorm, her very being resonating with the snow and ice. It was true, her very being carried something precious within her. As much as she wanted to be with Cerylia and Tirranna, this was her best course of action right now. As she watched the storm continue, she drifted off into a restful slumber.

A whimper caught Cel's attention as her eyes fluttered open, "Amadahy, are you okay? Were you out in the storm?"

Amadahy, a small wolf, shook herself of the snow that fell off her coat, "No. Well, yes, but I found a nice den to wait it out."

Celendria sighed with relief.

Amadahy sneezed, a paw to scratch her muzzle, "I went out to hunt, and then there was snow. Glad you two are safe."

Thorleif yawned, "How is it out there?"

Amadahy looked toward the cave entrance, "Good bit. You two should have no problem, though. The worst of it was last night."

Celendria nodded, "Let's just hope the base of the mountain received less than up here".

Thorleif pulled himself upward, stretching his wings, "Once they arrive and are able.... we'll go to the base of the mountain".

Celendria nodded, pulling herself to her feet. Soon, they would welcome a new chapter; for now, they'd take it easy and enjoy the sanctuary that protected them a bit longer.

The Title: Following Traditions
The Players: Cerylia, Tallulah, Tiranna (by mention)
Word Count: 882

Quote:
t's a new year in the Kawani lands! Winter is in full swing, and much of the land is covered in snow. Does your soquili do anything to acknowledge or celebrate the new year? Are they part of a herd or family that has a tradition or ceremony? Have they made a promise to start the new year with a clean slate and change themselves for the better?

Or did they simply try to stay warm and wait for the snow to melt and spring to arrive?

As the new year waved to the prior, a brilliant, perfect snowfall had painted the land in glistening white. Some of the lingering birds began chirping merrily as the sun started to rise, creating a shimmer across the fluffy snow. The land breathed once more, allowing its inhabitants to awaken and begin their routines.

One such creature was the one named Tiranna, a native maiden whom most of the Soquili called a two-legger. She was the one who kept things tidy, along with making the most delicious treats. She could always read the feelings, thoughts, and love of the creatures that gathered around the campsite. Of all the Soquili in the area, one particular slender mare graced Tirranna with company while her mother traveled high in the mountains. Sure, it was lonely, but Cerylia believed in her mother's words with all her heart. During the windy snowstorm before the morning, both Cerylia and her timid wolf, Tallulah, rested in the teepee with Tirranna. Now that it was morning, it was time to begin the yearly routine. Naturally, Carylia learned from her mother the ins and outs of helping around the campsite. She yawned, rising to her feet before nudging Tirranna, acknowledging it was time for preparations.

She then walked out of the teepee, leaning downward to pick up a bucket. Moving forward, she headed past the lake till she found a fresh running stream. Dipping her head downward, she filled the bucket with a sway of her head.

"Why do you gather water?" came the shy voice of her companion, Tallulah.

"It's tradition for Celendria to help with the festivities. In her absence, I must prepare things. Only then will the New Year treats appear".

Tallulah cocked her head, "Treats? I'm going to tag along since I'm usually out hunting when all this goes on".

Cerylia smiled, "Certainly. You can even help if you want to. It's a lot of prep, but it's worth it in the end". She then picked up the bucket, carrying it back to Tiranna, who was already prepping the fruits. positioned the bucket on the ground. Cerylia moved inside the teepee, bringing out a woven cloth. Tiranna took everything inside the teepee after patting Cerylia on the shoulder.

Tallulah tilted her head, That's the treats? What is the water, and the other stuff for?" She sniffed the air, hearing the crackling of fire in the darkness. Before she could speak, Cerylia was off gathering things, while Tiranna exited the teepee with an armful of things. Tallulah whimpered, completely lost. How did this all become treats? Throughout the day, she watched Cerylia and the two-legger making things. She tried herself with the dreamcatchers, but her paws only got in the way. Instead, she retrieved things when Tiranna requested them. It wasn't an amazing experience, but she loved listening to Tiranna's singing. Tradition. Such was the new year to bring good fortune to the area. Perhaps, better crops, new friends, and perhaps the joy of spring would bring the elder mare back. She had been gone so long now, yet Cerylia believed in her mother and her return.

Throughout the day, several activities took place, leading the sun upward, finally descending downwards. The smell was undeniable to the wolf as she followed Cerylia and Tiranna into the teepee. There, the unmistakable aroma of delicious hard work awaited them. Cerylia pulled herself downward, knees buckling beneath her. The teepee smelled new to the senses, as things today were freshened and cleaned. Now, as the sun was preparing for sleep, they all enjoyed the feeling of sanctuary and good tidings.

Tallulah couldn't believe everything they accomplished today. It seemed a blur, and yet it was more of an onset play with cleaning and revival. Putting her head between her paws, Tallulah listened to a soft yet beautiful tune on Tiranna's flute. Afterward, the maiden finally prepared the treat Cerylia had mentioned. While all their tasks took precedence over most of the day, the result was a tasty treat that sang thank you in a delicate aroma of berries, flowers, and, of course, apples. As Tallulah swallowed her bite, she turned to Cerylia, "Why all that? I mean, the treat was a good reward."

Cerylia smiled, "This tradition was something my mother and Tiranna shared from the first day they bonded. Even in winter's chill, they worked together to create a new memory. I'm not my mother, but I try my best to savor that sweet snack".

Tallulah looked upward, blinking in satisfaction at the beautiful creation hanging above them, "I got to help too. Well, my paws did get caught in the weaving...."

Cerylia chuckled, "Yes, but you fetching the other things was a big help. I can't do more but hold the string, but look at the finished result. It will protect us from misfortune and bad dreams ".

Tallulah smiled, "It's nice. Say, Cerylia, do you think your mom is coming back this year?

Cerylia closed her eyes, "Yes".

Tallulah seemed to smile, understanding that the New Year preparations were essential to carry on through the year. Once more, she looked up at the dreamcatcher as the flute carried on its tune. All of their effort had ensured the tradition of Celendria and Tiranna would never be forgotten.

The Title: Rue's Garden
The Players: Little Rue & Florescence
Word Count: 1,338

Quote:
For those soquili with a green hoof, it is almost time to harvest before the summer sun wilts crops. Does your soquili partake in any farming or gardening? If so, what do they plant? How do they care for their garden? Do they work solo, with familiars or are they part of a herd or family who work together? Are they farming for food, are they gardening flowers, do they grow herbs for medicine or are they trying to conserve or restore a damaged plot of land?

If they don't farm or garden, why not? Do they not have the skill? Have they killed every plant they've tried to keep alive? Do they want to learn but don't know where to start? Maybe they can reach out to a farming or gardening soquili to get some tips! If they don't farm or garden, how do they eat? Do they live off the land and forage for food or are they hunters?
Write an RP responding to the above prompt telling us about how/why your soquili farms/gardens if they do. Or why not if they don't, and what they do instead.

The sun rises to greet the world with a soft, yet gentle kiss. Accompanied by the arrival of colorful avians, small yet crystal clear in their song of happiness and positivity. Thus, the summer lingered with the Sun's personal touch of warmth and exaggerated foreboding of the heat that would soon make one salivate as their thoughts urged them to stay hydrated. One such mare named Little Rue began her motions within the sacred garden she tended as if it were her own child. Her son Thyme had also learned the rhythm and practice of those precious, wilting in the heavy summer graces upon them. Each herb could have sung a tale, if only others would listen. Patience. Love. Devotion, even understanding, were a few musings that would come to mind concerning Rue's herb garden.

Each herb was dedicated to a purpose. For instance, spices for the two-legged cook's cooking were grown appropriately on the right side of the garden. To the left were the medicinal properties that proved useful in making an antidote and potions that were needed in case of injuries. Not just for Soquilil, mind you, but even a wider range of creatures that could benefit from longer life spans. Through the recent rainstorms, Rue had been gathering water for her garden. Her first step, passing the herbs, brought her to the flowers Thyme had been growing. While it wasn't her usual array of green beauties, she rather liked the roses and other flowering plants he had chosen. Dipping the bucket, Rue released the water slowly, letting it seep into the soil. The sound of dry earth being quenched was satisfying to the slender mare. "There.... you are watered. I'm very proud of your growth for yourselves and my son. He'll be delighted to see the blooms when he returns".

Moving further, back the way she began, Rue paused at the "Protective" herbs, pouring small streams to soak the ground". Indeed, Sage, Basil, and even lavender were a comforting moment as she nodded a thank you to them. It was unknown if these herbs could ward off shifters and other dark anomalies with their presence. Rue firmly believed Shifters would rather not deal with them; therefore, their scents were welcoming with the thought of keeping those dark things at bay. With the elder seeking her own path, every little bit was needed to protect the land of Celendria's herd and the two-legger. Once the area was sated, she moved back to the entrance, stepping outside to grab another full bucket of water. She then returned to the herbs, the two-legger loved using for her food and treats for the other creatures. To name a few, there were plants containing Mountain mint, wild basil, bee balm, elderberries, and Juniper berries. Each herb had a purpose, a destination, and a thought on how it would be used in the future. Closing her eyes, Rue dipped the bucket, letting the water pull downward, soaking in the dirt, quenching its thirst below. Continuing her lap around the vast garden, Rue successfully had watered her "children" in a job well done. Then she nodded to her plants before exiting the garden, ready to begin her new day. Rue paused as the two-legger, Tirranna, passed her, a hand outstretched with something small and white. Rue took it voluntarily, as she knew it was a treat for a job well done. Its texture melted on her tongue, and a sweet, irresistible feeling overtook her. The maiden then moved inside the herb garden, procuring what she had set out to retrieve. Rue walked onward, standing just beneath the tree canopy. Already, the sun seemed angry, heating the land. Rue pondered, the rain had possibly upset the sun as to why the heat had been severe lately.

As soon as she was about to return to the garden, Rue noticed the garden was receiving a visitor. Nodding her head, she smiled, "Hello. Have you come to visit my garden?" The mare was extremely proud of her "children," aka her herbs. Word had traveled extensively on the size and variations she took care of daily. It was a simple wonderment for anyone to ponder why Rue ever had time for commitment or foals. As she looked up to see who the other mare was, her breath was taken aback. A unicorn with the most elegant pattering had graced her presence.

The other stood slender as if the moon were sliced perfectly, curved with a delicate, yet amazing figure. Her mane playfully blowing in the breeze, composed of pinks and blues of summer hues. A blue pearlized spiral adorned her head as her slender, curled tail swayed elegantly with her. Once Rue had been taken aback, the other spoke, "No need to be in shock. I am simply a mare that desires a garden to bring happiness". She then smiled, the greenish-blue flower in her mane moving slowly in the passing breeze, "I've heard many rumors about your own garden, Little Rue. Would you perhaps share a walkthrough with me?" Then the mare shook her head, "Forgive me. My name is Florescence. In the moment I forgot my formalities".

Rue smiled, "Greetings, Florescence. I'd be glad to share my garden. Right this way," she spoke happily, proud of her beautiful visitor. Stepping through the entrance, she could have sworn there was a gentle chorus emanating from the plants and flowers. Standing to the side, she let Florescence move past her. As she stood, watching the other mare, Rue was in disbelief. Each plant was graced with the mare's horn, a soft glow forming, then retreating through each plant. The humming grew louder in Rue's ears as the unicorn blessed each plant she passed, making the song louder. Finally, she paused at the precious roses and flowers that Thyme had been growing since has was a foal. Florescence dipped her head to the largest rose, a singular tear dropping, falling onto the large bloom.

Florescence was overjoyed that such a quaint yet vast garden was created, cared for so meticulously. Even her son's flowers were just amazingly beautiful. Turning to Rue, she nodded, "Stories have traveled of this garden from the smallest rabbit to the herd traveling Soquili. It truly is a sight to behold".

Rue blushed, not in embarrassment, rather fulfillment. Florescence had blessed her entire garden during the visit. Rue just felt happiness as her plants hummed happily in her ears.

Florescence nodded, "Feel free to seek out my garden when you are able. I would love to converse, share planting tips during your visit. Your garden is resilient, as are you, with your devotion and care." The slender mare flicked an ear, Moving delicately, elegantly on her hooves, Florescence made her way outside Rue's garden, heading toward her own. Rue would someday visit her own garden when she mustered time. The singular tear left within the rose would be a tool in finding Florescence's garden.

Rue nodded her head, a flick of her tail in a goodbye as the other mare vanished out of sight. The humming ceased shortly after making Rue ponder if it had been her imagination. Walking back to Thyme's flowers, she noticed something odd, but beautiful, lying in the largest petal. It was a tear from Florescence, a calling card when Rue wanted to traverse out of her own garden to visit Florescence. For now, she'd leave the crystallized tear where it was. Rue may have been gentle with her garden, but a crystalline tear was a whole different story. She would probably get the two-legger to make something to protect it from being broken. For now, Rue moved outside, noting how fast the day had traveled. Lying down beneath the large willow tree, she felt the incoming evening breeze and sighed before she closed her eyes.

The Title: Spring Festival News
The Players: Cerylia, Glory, Cella Luna, Lady Arendelle, and Tirranna (by mention)
Word Count: 1,368

Quote:
Quite a number seem to celebrate the end of the Year, but now we've reached the Spring Festival. It begins on a new moon and is typically 15 days long with the festival honoring deities and ancestors. During this time, you see families big and small coming together for reunion dinners, cleaning of their home to remove bad luck, lots of red decorations and other festivities.

How do you choose to celebrate? Are you with family and friends? Are you solo? Perhaps you're not much of a Spring Festival kind of sort and don't celebrate at all. What do you think about the ongoing festivities whether or not you partake in them?

The year had been exceptionally hard when Cerylia saw her mother leave for the mountains. It had been months now, awaiting her return. Doing her best, she assisted Tirranna, wondering if she'd spend time with Eton during the Spring festival. It seemed frivolous at first to still honor this special season, yet Cerylia welcomed the chance to speak with siblings once more. Tiranna was busy making the favored treats of Celendia's bloodline. So many family members faded off into the future with their own families. An amusing thought occurred to the young spotted ice mare as the winds tossed her braids from the mountains. Had her mother chased a dream of a new mate who would stay with her and Cerylia's siblings? What if she returned with new siblings to look after? Those who chose to stay in the area would be overjoyed to see foals running around in the meadows and playing in the effervescent streams. Perking her ears, she heard Tiranna's call. Cerylia walked over to taste the delicious treats. Nodding her head, she agreed that everything was ready for full bellies. Picking up red streamers, she craned her head upward so Tirranna could grab the end, tying it nicely in place. Cerylia then repeated the same step; the streamers were hanging perfectly.

She was the hostess this year, leaving nothing undone. The tables were set, covered in a silken red fabric with beautiful designs. Now, all that was left was for the family to arrive. Tossing her head, Cerylia flicked an ear as her head turned toward the mountains, a longing stirring in her heart. Her mother was precious, not only to those arriving but also to Tirranna. Celendria was the Matriarch who stood the test of time. Cerylia mused, her memories flooding back to her age as a filly. Stepping up beside her mother, little hooves contrasting with those solid, crystalline hooves of her mother. She was massive to the tiny hooves that stood within her shadow. Thinking back, how would she ever be able to stand in those hooves? Celendria seemed ethereal at times, a floating Ice Goddess tethered to this lifetime.

"Hey there, sister," came the voice of a familiar mare. "Long time no see, huh?" Standing in the campsite was a white unicorn that grew with age over the years. While she wasn't bloodline, her solo lone basket made her family true blood. "Cerylia? You doing alright?" The mare known as Glory, adorned with deep purple hair, looked worried, "Where is Mother? Did something happen?" Glory's spiral glistened in the phantom sunlight filtering from the clouds.

Cerylia turned quickly to see Glory standing here, those blue eyes deeply concerned. She shook her head, "No, I mean... Mother is on a quest in the mountains for something". The truth of the matter was that Cerylia had no clue why her mother was having dreams; she just had to accept it. Cerylia was about to speak when a tall shadow loomed over them both. Turning quickly, she noted her other sister had arrived.

Standing before Glory and Cerylia was none other than Cella Luna. She was definitely the odd one out of the bunch. That storm had brought bad tidings, mystical, spiritual energy, and strange baskets. "Heyas!" the voice of the tall dinosaur-appendaged sibling. She always seemed to walk on claws, which was unheard of in the family. At least she wasn't born a shifter that could have gobbled them up, right? Cella Luna chuckled at that one. She knew she was different than the rest of them, thus her jokes, she knew they whispered. On the table, there was a plate of fish set out just for her. Walking over, she snapped one up faster than the others could blink. Following in suit, Cella Luna also enjoyed a freshly made treat, still devouring things like a heron in the late.

Glory was first to say something, "Gah, sis, you know that is just not Soquili nature. I swear you are more bird than Soquili".

Cella Luna chuckled, "What can I say, it's who I was born to be".

Glory laughed with a chortle, "That you are!"

Cella Luna clicked her tongue, "Pleased to amuse you, Glory". She then turned to Cerylia, "You are really down for the celebration. What's going on?" Craning her head downward, Cella Luna snapped up another fish, swallowing it quickly.

Glory interveined, "Mother is off on a quest. The thing is, we have no idea why" . She then looked at Cerylia. "Do you know when she'll return"?

Cerylia shook her head, "No. I know she is safe, but it's unknown when her return will come."

Another figure arrived as if the winter winds were gently helping her. She seemed strange, yet Cerylia knew who this elusive mare was. Perhaps, when Cerylia was merely a foal, she saw her for the first time. The mare stood still, as she glistened like Glory's horn. Nodding, she smiled to Cerylia and her sisters. "I bring news of your mother," speaking softly, hoping Cella Luna was listening as well.

Cerylia's eyes widened, "Good news, I take it?" Her eyes lingered for information about her mother's well-being.

Glory's concentration and attention lie on the mare she'd never met before. Who was this mare? How did she know of Celendria's quest?

Before she could speak once more, she was cut off by Cella Luna, who stared directly at the stranger, "How do you know our mother? You just appeared from out of nowhere. Like a ghost. Wait, are you a ghost?"

The newcomer laughed, "No child, I am not a ghost. I am your Great -Aunt. Lady Arendelle "The Winter solstice" she nodded with a dip of her head, "I am Isodla's sister".

Glory blinked, "What of our Mother, is she doing alright?" She didn't want to be forward, but Arendelle said she had news.

Arendelle nodded, "Very well. Your mother is safe, freed from her visions. She has found what she sought for many years".

Cella Luna blinked, "Which is...what?" She couldn't help but be relieved of this pending news once it was delivered.

Cerylia stepped forward, her eyes shimmering, "She found him... didn't she? The one from her visions that called to her".

Glory blinked at Cerylia, "Him? I'm so out of the loop right now". She moved to the plate, taking a berry as it squished upon her tongue.

Cerylia nodded, "Mother was having visions about someone calling out to her. She has found him at last."

Cella Luna scrunched her nose, "So, she took a new mate. Does that mean she's coming home now?"

Arendelle shook her head, "She will be on the mountain top for some time. She worries about you three more than anything". Celendria needs time with Thorleif and your new siblings growing within her".

Cerylia's eyes widened! Could it be she was going to have more siblings to watch over and care for?! She stilled her inner joy, responding, "I'm so happy, Arendelle. She finally found peace after dad".

Glory blinked, "Siblings? I wonder what they'll be like? And Thorleif? I can't wait to meet him. I bet he's handsome!"

Cella Luna snickered, "Gee, Glory, I wonder if they'll be dino birds like I am. Lots of fish. Oh, wait, I'd have to share... hmm."

Arendelle laughed. "In time, ladies. In time". She then ventured over to the table, looking at all the goodies. There was time to talk about Celendria's new mate and new siblings. "Let's enjoy the festival and be excited about your mother's return, shall we?"

Cerylia breathed with a relieved sigh, knowing her mother was protected from the unknown. Moving toward the table, she felt a moment of happiness wash over her, knowing this year had started unknowingly. Now, the news of Celendria and siblings brightened the mood of the conversation and the festival. In time, she'd get to see her again. For now, focus on celebrating those who brought them to this point. As Glory, Cella Luna, and Arendelle feasted on fish, berries, and fresh-baked snacks, Cerylia chose her own snack that she enjoyed. "Thank you, Mother. Thank you for a better year to come...when you return once more."

The Title: Heart of the Cards
The Players: Pharaoh Atemu, Iset, Amenhotep, Senusret, Ahaneith, Kirs
Word Count: 2,089

Quote:

March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Spring is near, and as depicted on the tapestries, there is a story to tell. Your story. Or perhaps a favored tale from your youth. Whatever the tale, tell it well, and you may be able to snag a couple of delightful prizes.

As the sun lifted slowly, it rose toward the heavenly sky. A singular stallion dressed in velvet and gold stood before his family. By his side resided his queen, elegant and refined. They awaited their audience for a tale that would span the ages of memory. The breeze of spring was tolerable, with only minimal drifts of heated sandy diamonds, as if they seemed like phantoms. The stallion's gaze was strong and deliberate as he awaited his royal lineage. One by one, they entered the area till everyone was present and accounted for. Even his royal knight attended quietly with his Halberd.

"Very well," the stallion known as Pharaoh spoke, "Let us begin with a tale as old as the sands themselves. I call this tale the "Heart of the Cards."

When I was but a young Prince, I was trained with several others for games of mind, body, and strength. Of course, being a prince had privileges and favor in the great one's eyes. I was but a colt, foolish yet proud, geared to become a legend among those I would rule. Every step, every thought, every vision that entered my mind was the building block for who I am today. A saying struck with me once - believing in the heart of the cards. It seemed a farce to me, yet it struck a chord in this young prince's heart.

Believe in the heart of the cards.

So, naturally, I stuck with that belief, holding it true in my heart.

Not one of the other Colts could defeat me in the games. I was superior among the other nobles and royalty. My footing was, in a sense, legendary as I outplayed every other one of them. There I reigned supreme, believing that phrase that would guide me through every step of my life.... No one would ever defeat my streak.

His tallest son scowled. annoyed, he had to listen to this banter. His hoof unearthed a small rock as he kicked toward his brother. Amenhotep sighed, knowing his brother was going to do something uncalled for. He tried to ignore his brother's antics. Neith, on the other hand, was listening to his father for once. Shooting a look of annoyance at Senusret, his eyes drifted toward their mother's unwavering gaze of patience. Her sons were perfection, and yet their disciplines for some had a long way to go to maturity. As they quieted down, Atem stepped back, allowing his mate to take the stage before her subjects. Iset stepped forward like a creature carved from the finest stone, then she spoke. Atem on the therhand pawed the ground, his eyes glaring at his sons, yet not a word was uttered.

Meanwhile, when I was a young filly, I was told that my training would be far from my homeland. Being the best in my group, I was placed on a pedestal for my intellect. Still naive, I only knew myself as being the top-rated and overall perfection. When we arrived at the kingdom furthest to the East, that's when I saw him for the first time.

A worthy competitor worth my time.

He was, in my eyes, gallant, noble, and ambitious. Handsome for a colt of winning stature. The Prince was also stubborn, headstrong, and overly confident in his abilities. My sparring partner, Niamh, was first to fall, losing her title to the boastful prince. I felt regret that she lost her title to him, as her defeat returned her to our kingdom. Then there was just the Prince and me standing victorious over our kingdoms. I remember hearing his name for the first time - Pharaoh Atemu. He sized me up, thinking I was but a pushover like Niamh.

But, dear Prince, you were the delusional one.

I matched your wits and strength. Being a noble, it was mind-blowing to you to have ample competition. But you accepted your fate of being on par with a filly. In fact, you fell head over heels for me because we were equals.

Iset smirked, her gaze lingering over to Atem, who seemed a bit flustered at her comment. Nodding, with a dip of her head, she let Atemu move forward, his face stern, yet Iset seemed to have poked his ego.

Atemu moved forward, temporarily ignoring her victory in their combined story. Iset always proved she was his equal, perhaps that is why Atem chose her as his Queen. His head held high, he continued their story, hoping that their audience was paying attention.

Delusional, no more like smitten for your words and moves. You were a deity in my eyes as a colt. Wings like those residing in other realms, mane and tail dark as ebony. I may have been a delusional Prince, but I knew who would be my mate when we grew older. Till then, I would best you with every trick I knew possible.

That phrase came to mind; Believe in the Heart of the Cards.

So I trusted my actions, my thoughts, my intelligence, leaving me with a couple of wins over my equal. Yet, when I took the reins, you were always one step ahead of me. Frustrating to a youth was a filly who knew the tricks, the rules to be crowned victor. How in my eyes could a girl such as yourself always know what I was thinking? For days, nights, I paced, wondering why you were frustrating me. Why I was drawn to our sparring matches.

I finally realized that it made perfect sense to me that that saying finally resonated with me. No matter how I felt, I knew the truth. The Heart of the Cards was my ambition. The more we sparred, the more I wanted to be near you. Each day leading up to the final sparring match brought such intensity within me. When I saw you before that final day, I had to say it. That was when you approached me, asking a simple question about life. Then I knew it! You, Iset, were to be my Queen. My heart of the cards! I blurted it to the world as a colt, a young Pharaoh pronounced his adoration to a filly who would rule by my side...

Atemu gazed over at Iset, his eyes glazed over, still admiring his equal, who had given him four amazing sons. Blood teaming with the future Pharaohs of their own Kingdoms, True, they didn't see eye to eye sometimes, but he loved her more than his own life, which he would gladly give for hers. Iset smiled, a genuine gesture in recognition of her King. She stepped toward Atemu, now standing directly by his side. She then began her last part of the story...

I called him Atemy affectionately because he had chosen me of all fillies. My sparring partners were jealous yet envious of me. The soon-to-be crowned Pharaoh claimed me as his own. I trained with him till that fateful day, till the last moment of victory was between us. Naturally, we tied in our rounds, leaving our fates undecided as to who was the ultimate champion.

Atem spoke directly after" Isey was my name for her, the true queen of my heart, of the cards. He then gazed over to see their audience's reactions between his sons, Kiros, and even Irisi.

Amenhotep's eyes were focused, a soothing soul intaking every word, both his mother and father relayed to him and the others. "That was beautiful. I'm so happy and proud I get to be a part of this lineage. Being so matched, it's perfection betwixt you both."

Senusret scoffed, "So you two fell in love. That's precious," he muttered in sarcasm. "I think if I ever took a mate, she'd have to impress me, outdo me even, because I am strong, smart even".

Iset's eyes slid to her tallest son. They showed disapproval of his words, yet she wasn't the one to reprimand his actions.

Kiros nodded to his Pharaoh, "Wonderful story, sire. I find it fascinating how you both are evenly matched. Producing foals of a great lineage. I feel that your future bloodline will carry on in legendary stories and overall memories".

Neith listened intently, though he seemed not to be paying attention. His single-handed stunt nearly destroyed the current future. Neith's mother, Blake, was a simple mare that had captured his father's heart. Iset was a true queen, able to best Neith's father at any interlude. His brothers were tolerably well, most of them. Senusret needed a good punishment to knock him off his high pedestal. As Neith turned his head to look at his half-sibling, he could feel those cunning, deliberant eyes just judging him all the time. Neith rolled his own eyes, knowing full well Senusret would be the bane of the entire family. "Father, Mother.." Neith began, "Though I am not fully of your bloodline, you accept me as your own son. For this, I am thankful, humble even for your acceptance. You both have been so kind. I am ashamed that I almost caused discord between you both".

Sennusret coughed, knowing full well someone was sucking up to his parents. He coughed, a paw of his hoof annoyed that he had to listen to some romantic story instead of dealing with his own agenda.

Amenhotep glared at his brother but knew Neith was being truly honest. He had learned that Neith was troublesome, but after he realized the true course of the family, he became slightly humble. Not like Senusret, that was chaotic, then all the siblings. There was something sinister in that calculating subconscious of his.

Senusret glared back as his eyes flashed through his mask, "I only speak the truth, Amenhotep. Do you think even less of me?"

Amenhotep snorted, "Father and mother felt it just to reveal their story to us. A linking point to our familiarity and knowledge of our bloodline. Have some respect for them, myself, and Neith. At least he's trying instead of being a literal bufoon about your opinions".

Senusret glared, "Excuse me? He's sucking up. I can see it a mile away, Amenhotep. It was a damn love story. That's all it was. I had better things to do rather than listen to banter".

Neith was taken aback, "I was not sucking up to Senusret! Have some respect for your parents. Be humble for a change instead of being an a*****e!

Atemu tolerated enough things in life, but his sons' bickering was not something he wanted to deal with right now. Facing his bickering sons, he snorted, ears laid back. "That will be enough from all of my bloodline. Your mother and I felt it was a special moment to share our story. Senusret, I am highly disappointed in your actions.

Iset closed her eyes, then spoke, "The story has concluded, you all may go about your business." Opening her eyes once more, she continued, "If you three are worth my time, I'll tell you about my own adventure after the final match." Her eyes softened, a small tear forming. "Be away with you for now."

Irisi flew to Iset's back, "There will always be tension, Iset. You have able-bodied sons all fighting their way toward your mate's title"

Iset nodded, "I know, I just wish Senusret was a little more positive in his views. He worries me".

Irisi nodded, " As I. He's just really chaotic compared to the rest".

Atem narrowed his eyes as his sons disbanded out of the area. Ears perking, he caught the conversation of Irisi and Iset, ""The spirits were the ones that gifted us our sons. He moved to Irisi's side. "I will punish him if need be. I will not have my family in disarray because of a darkness infused into my chaotic son".

Kiros spoke up in the background, "He definitely has a darkness about him that needs to be watched over, Sire. I appreciated your tale regardless of your sons' bickering.

Atem nodded with gratitude. "Iset and I are retiring to our quarters. Take your leave, Kiros. I am content you are my royal guard".

Kiros bent his head, "Thank you, sire."

As the Pharaoh and his lady retired to their quarters, they wondered what the future held for their children. Perhaps in time, things would settle. Atemu could only hope before Iset had a meltdown herself. That was his breaking point in holding back with Senusret. Iset was a proud Queen, not a disheveled mare. He'd be content keeping it that way.

Title: Dragons by the River
The Players: Cynder, Silver Fire, Tieguanyin, Shaylee (mention)
Word Count: 1,596
The Plot: Three female dragons are all drawn to a river...

A story carried around the Kawani lands of dragons who met for the first time. Not just any dragons, but three very different species of dragons. The Kawani lands are well known for many things, but dragons were few, far, and in between in sightings. A silly flutter by the name of Shaylee witnessed this odd event, being the first to spread the news far and wide...

One amazing spring day near a free-flowing river, a large kalona appeared. Her winged appendages, torn in places, matched the rest of her form with a warning to stay away. Her green, menacing eyes surveyed the area, seeking something to agitate or inhibit to be her dinner for the day. Tail lashings wildly with a tip like a silver blade, she grew annoyed that this area was too simple, boring even. Craning her head downward, the dragoness partook of the drink that seemed cool and refreshing upon her palate within her muzzle. For the moment, it was calm, which she hadn't really found comforting beforehand. The birds' songs and the insects chirping were unnerving to a dragoness such as herself. She pondered resting beneath this gallant tree whose foliage filtered out the sun that baked the fur upon her shoulders and hindquarters.

Then she sensed something moving swiftly from toward the west, incoming quickly. Hissing, the dragoness with the torn wings moved further into the shadows. Her green, devious eyes narrowed; a winged creature was incoming. Soquili were, in essence, easy prey, though some didn't taste too appetizing. The draoness blending with the foliage and shadows kept a vigil over the incoming. If it were prey, she'd surely feast well. On the other hand, if it were a shifter, it was something she would not take a chance with.

From the sky descended another dragon, appearing much smaller, yet it carried wings possibly larger than those of the first dragoness. The descending dragon landed gracefully, her steps moving her in a circle before stretching her wings, later placing them by her sides in an eloquent manner. Making an odd noise, she first glanced around as if sniffing out danger. The first dragon had herself downwind of the other, standing perfectly still, evaluating who or what species this other dragon was exactly. She seemed rather timid, uneasy. The second dragon slid her finned tail around her side, walking towards the stream uneasily. A feeling like she was being watched, possibly. Shifters were found in many places, which she'd rather not run into any in her opinion. Her species essentially was a dying breed, so being wary was key to survival. Still feeling uneasy, she opened her wings and quickly flew to the other side of the river for peace of mind. Creating another foreign sound, the other dragon craned her neck downward to drink, ears moving to capture sound that possibly waited in the shadows. The strange lantern moved just above the water, barely lit but carrying something precious within.

Once she was sated, her head rose at once, feeling that ominous presence leering into her soul. She is defensive, a strange sound followed by a hiss escaped her muzzle. Eyes narrowing, she spoke without hesitation, "I know you are there. Stop playing games.". Her stance grew rigid as her wings flared outward. A cracking noise could be heard deep within her chest and nostrils. She'd fight for her own survival of her species. Just as she was about to fire a small bolt of lightning as a warning, another creature was coming toward the West of the river. Ears perking, swiveling, she was curious yet frantic about what moved swiftly, yet barely any sound of pounding on the ground.

The first dragoness hissed as the other female threatened to fire lightning. Who did this other female think she was, honestly? She was about to reveal her identity when the incoming other captured her attention. Staying perfectly still, she spoke, You are a dragon, correct? Why not be civil and tell me what species you really are? Stop being cowardly," the first dragoness growled.

Meanwhile, the other incoming Soquili was unique from the previous two. While she had no wings, her gait was fast enough to lift her from the ground as if for most of her traverse was above the ground. She seemed longer, mane swaying, as the breeze captured her essence. In a word, she was purely ethereal in anyone's eyes. Her tail was thick with no fins or points as she carried antlers and scales unseen by others. As she moved closer to the river, her claws dug into the ground till her snake-like movements slowed; her elegance was beautifully sculpted. Her head shifted back and forth. The last dragon dipped her head downward, soaking in the life-giving drink. She felt at ease momentarily, then she heard the voice of the first dragon, and then gazing upon the other with raised wings, rigid with uncertainty. Her head tilted curiously, wondering what was causing the female distress. Quickly, she moved fast till she was near the white and purple dragon. "Why are you on defense?" she asked with a tilt of her head. "Surely, there is no reason for aggression. "

The white female turned slightly to gaze at the third dragon, "You don't sense them hiding in the shadows? They are chaotic, devious, and ruthless".

The third female tilted her head, "I sense only lightning within your breath. There is a feeling of uneasiness, but I didn't deem it threatening: "Possibly another of our similar species?"

The first dragoness, black as a canvas of night, grew tired of this strange female's questions. She emerged from her shadows, letting both the white, smaller female and the elongated one see her. "I wasn't doing anything of the sort. If I wanted to kill either of you, it would have been done moments ago".

The third female shook her head, "Very blunt, yes".

The white dragon muttered, "I told you that she was trouble. Hence why I showed her I wasn't a pushover."

The tallest of the females clicked her tongue, "So I was evaluating both of you for strength, intelligence. Is it really a sin to be curious about who you are?" She snorted, a puff of smoke left her nostrils. "Let's be civil, shall we?" She then looked from the second to the third female, "I'll go first. I'm known as Cynder. Yes, I am a dragon. There was that hard... how about you?" She queried the smaller of the three, "What is your species and name?" Eyes narrowing, Cynder wanted to know just how dangerous these two were. Dragons could be prey, but mostly, they could defend themselves if need be.

The white one stood still, not knowing why this was all happening. Pulling her finned tail toward her, she responded, "I'm an elder light Fury dragon. I'm known as Silver Fire". She still couldn't believe two other dragons were here, at the same time she was. Maybe it was something about this river that drew them in. She sighed, her head turning toward the oddest of them all. "Guess it's your turn... I've never seen your kind before."

The third nodded with a tilt of her head, "Very well. I'm known as a Fairy Lung Dragon. While I can not fly, I can move extremely fast as if I could take flight". She then smiled, tilting her head once more, " I'm known as Tieguanyin".

Cynder smirked, "So we are all dragonesses, which is fine with me. While I do enjoy the hunt, dragons are not on my menu".

Silver Fire breathed with relief, "That's good to know. I saw this river and wanted to taste the water. I need to be off soon, though".

Tieguanyin nodded, "I'd definitely agree it was the river that brought us here, together". She flicked an ear as a claw scraped over the ground, "While I'd like to stay and converse, "I, too, must be on my way.

Cynder looked around as the evening was setting in. How long had this day moved onward without her knowledge, she wondered. Still, her curiosity was sated as both of the other females prepared for departure.

Silver Fire moved first, bidding her farewell to the others as the rising evening light of the moon caused her hidden markings to appear. She then took off into the sky till she disappeared into the darkening clouds.

Tieguanyin watched in amazement as the moon's light revealed Silver Fire's secret. A feeling of awe danced around her, knowing that Light Fury was spectacular to converse with. Perhaps she gets to see her again, maybe ask what the lantern attached to her was significant. Then he nodded to Cynder, bidding her farewell. In the light that filtered downward, Tieguanyin seemed to sparkle and glow in a strange yet beautiful display. She took off running back the way she came, moving increasingly faster by every stride till she appeared airborne in perception.

Finally, Cynder was wondering what had just happened. Both Silver Fire and Tieguanyin were two different dragons she herself had never heard about or witnessed till this day. Both held valuable secrets, which possibly intrigued Cynder. Silver Fire still captured attention most of all. Just what was that lantern for anyway, she wondered. Shrugging, she moved back to her space in the shadows to wait for a timed creature to sate her hunger over the questions that had surfaced within her mind. Leaving one eyelid open, she rested herself beneath the tree, letting her thoughts drift away for now.

The Title: Between Earth & Sky
The Players: Tieguanyin, Kurai Janguru "Hunter
Wordcount: 1, 748
Plot: Tieguanyin assures Hunter that the rain will fall. He just has to believe in her words

Quote:
Prompt:
Write from the perspective of a character living through this unseasonably dry April. Describe the current weather and explore your character’s internal thoughts. Are they haunted by memories (or stories) of past fires, or do they remain hopeful that rain will arrive in time?

The sky hasn’t changed yet.

But something is coming, one way or another.

The kawani lands were, in a sense, dry, with endless blue reaching like the ocean. The air seemed warm, no moisture, as creatures stared unwaveringly toward the sky. This tension seemed unsettling to everyone. All in a chorus of words asking, "Where was the rain?"
Most creatures knew the seasons well. Starting with Spring, Summer, Fall, and of course Winter were the chosen cycles of the world where everyone lived. Winter had been brutal, leaving creatures to hibernate more than usual. Once they awoke, the floods began nourishing the frozen earth. Now, Spring was in procession, bringing flowers, life, and rain. Rain was the life source that filled the rivers, settled the lakes, and saturated the ground. Instead, wherever one walked, it was dry, unnerving, and hot to the point that most feared the Kawani lands were under a strange curse.

One such creature was Tieguanyin, who moved so fast some thought she was actually flying. Each hoof that touched the ground was welcomed with dust trailing behind her. Gazing around her, Tieguanyin noticed that the leaves on the trees were not looking so well, nor the grass that usually grew so lush for Soquili to graze. Head turning upward, she noted the endless pale sky stretching on, endless with no moisture. While it was discerning, Tieguanyin knew inherently that the rains would come. They always have, regardless of the heat circling the moisture in tight bubbles. Perhaps, there was a plan set in motion that the elements were preparing for, she wondered.

Moving onward, she noticed something strange. In front of her, a leopard painted in a rainbow coat stared upward to the sky. Upon closer inspection, Tieguanyin noticed the gem affixed to its chest. Immediately, she recognized it was a shifter. Though one of the most feared creations of the Soquili world, this one seemed nervous, scared even. Tieguanyin moved closer, trying to see if she could discern the male feline's dismay. Shifters were a nasty species with malicious thoughts and blood-curdling actions. Still, Tieguanyin scented no ill will from this large male.

The leopard feral had been staring at the sky for some time. The air carried no moisture as the clouds had just gone. Letting his tail dangle from a solid enough branch, the feline shifter contemplated worry. This time of year should have been breezy and comfortable for just lying in the grass on your back, watching the clouds pass by. Instead, a sickly pale blue welcomed his gaze, making him uneasy. Even the leaves on the trees seemed miserable in a sense. The leopard sighed as he leapt downwards to the ground in a hard thud. Ears pulled back, his landing caused small dust clouds. Was the ground, the air truly holding its breath, he wondered.

Ears perking forward, he felt like he was being watched by something. Immediately, he turned, nostrils sucking inward to figure out what had snuck up upon him so agile and quiet. "Who goes there?" he asked bravely, but had no desire to harm unless he was threatened. Noticing his visitor, his back softened, tail ceasing to sway. It seemed a dream to the shifter leopard that this particular Soquili would grace his presence. They were a rare species that carried wisdom, luck, possibly? Other feline shifters would have had her dead in a heartbeat. He would rather not deal with bloodshed. He would rather find out why interest was in him.

"Hello," he spoke, trying to sound less of a shifter than his bloodthirsty species. He sawllowed uneasily, Why do you gaze at me so curiously?"

Tieguanyin merely smiled when he noticed her. "Hello, traveler," she spoke softly. Dipping her head, a long silken tassel slid downward elegantly. "Oh, I do not mean you any alarm. Just curious as to why your features hold fear and doubt, that's all."

He blinked, "It was that obvious?" he muttered, ears pulling back. "Okay, well, I'm afraid the sky will never bring the rain anymore. Has the sky forgotten how to rain and make things comfortable again?" He frowned, hoping his words weren't too much of a farce from the truth. He sighed, looking upwards again. "What's going to happen to everyone if the rain doesn't fall?"

Tieguanyin smiled, .

The shifter leopard blinked, for he had all the time in the world, "I'm Hunter, by the way. And yes, I could use something to distract my mind right now". Finding a comfortable place in the shade, Hunter sat with his tail around him. "It's a little cooler here," he said with a smile.

Sensing the good intentions of this particular shifter, Tieguanyin followed him over to the shade. She refused to sit, rather stand, as storytellers were best woven with emotion. "Very well... My name is Tieguanyin, as this is my tale. Feel free to close your eyes since stories help the imagination".

When I was but a filly, we had a spring similar to this one. The air was hot upon my scales, as the sky was sickly. For days, the sun came and went, but there appeared no rain. The dust from the ground beneath my claws grew more and more each day. Where was the rain? Where was spring as everyone knew it? Rumors spread eventually that the earth beneath them was dying. Even fires were manifesting out of this stale breath of the sky.

So, when I saw my grandmother standing idle, looking at the sky, I asked her if the earth was dying. My grandmother is known to us simply as Grandmother Sakura. She replied that the Earth, sky, and sun argued one day. The clouds fell upset and moved out of sight, daring themselves not to cry. Each day grew hotter than the last till the grass, trees, and even rivers grew sad, wilted, and pondered dying so they wouldn't live through the heat. Grandmother Sakura smiled as she weaved a tale for her beloved granddaughter, Fairy Lung.

I asked the Spirit of the Earth what happened between them. And the Earth said that the sky thought it was more breathtaking than the life upon the ground. That the Sky was endless and forever and would never grow old, therefore it did not need the Sun nor the Earth to flourish. Then I later asked the Spirit of the Sky why it was angry at the Earth. The Sky spirit replied how the Earth thought itself so beautiful as life grew eternal in creatures, foliage, and the magnificent sparkling blue waters. It didn't need the sky to help it grow. Finally, I asked the spirit of the sun why it was angry at both of them. Its reply was simple. Neither the Sky nor the Earth was more beautiful than the other. Together, they were magnificent, helping one another grow to be infinite, eternal, creating our world. The sun spirit was trying to get through to them, voicing their opinion, but it was lost. So speaking louder caused more heat in the world.

So, I traveled as far as I could to stand between the silent, angry spirits. There, I spoke loudly, yet calmly, to them. I explained how the sun was hurt that both Earth and sky would be jealous of one another. Where both the vast sky with its puffy clouds and cool breezes, along with the tranquil waters and sweet grasses. Neither was more beautiful than the other.

The spirits appeared surprised as Grandmother Sakura spoke deep wisdom, opening their eyes. Looking upward, they saw the sun, angry that it was ignored. Turning back to look at one another, they spoke, "I'm sorry. Let it be known that together we are magnificent! They then turned the sun upwards. We're sorry that we ignored you. Come, let us be beautiful together! The sun finally smiled as the spirits hugged one another. Then, like magic, the Sun let the Sky and Earth spirits flourish once more as humidity finally formed clouds. Then the rain fell all over the land, creating Spring everyone knew and loved once more.

I tilted my head to Grandmother Sakura, "Does it mean they are arguing again?" I spoke with tears

Grandmother Sakura smiled, "Yes, but they will remember that talk that brought them to their senses. It may take some time for both the Earth Spirit and the Sky spirits to see the truth, but inherently, both know they need one another in the end. I smiled, feeling a raindrop on my muzzle. "I think they stopped arguing". Grandmother Sakura chuckled, I do believe they have".

She then opened, looked at Hunter, who sat with his eyes closed. One by one, he opened them, blinking at the Fairy Lung female, "So it's an argument among them? Tieguanyin nodded, "Yes. When the spirits disagree, things don't go as planned, like this spring." Hunter nodded, "I see. So, the spirits just need to figure things out. Then everything will be right as rain!

Tieguanyin smiled, "Exactly! Grandmother Sakura always knew the right stories to weave when things seemed like despair. Once the Sky and Earth stop quarreling, it will rain once more". She nodded her head with a soft smile. In the distance, she could hear a rumble, a positive sign. "There. Do you hear that? Sounds like they apologized, and the sun is happy once more. Sometimes we just have to believe in the positive nature of things when outcomes look muddled".. Then she looked off in the distance, "I must be on my way. Stay positive, Hunter, and you will witness amazing things afterward". She then took off in a gallop that made her appear light as air as she glided across the ground. Deep in her mind, she pondered why Hunter never shifted in front of her. Merely choosing to remain a feral leopard instead.

Hunter bidded her farewell with a nod of his head and a flick of his ears. He watched as she took off into the distance, so light she was gliding through the air. Looking back across the sky, he blinked, seeing a shadow move in the sky. Leaping up in the trees, he placed his head on his paws, waiting for the rain to find its way there. While it seemed impossible, Hunter knew the rains would come. Thanking Tieguanyin silently, he closed his eyes with a toothy smile, pondering if it was rain he smelled in the endless blue.
