The General Manager Office Thread

[Cartwright]

This is the office of the General Manager and Owner of the World Wrestling Federation Guild, Cartwright.

The office has recently been rebuilt thanks to the shameful actions of Drako Damone.

The office walls have many photos and paintings of Cartwright.

Cartwright can be seen sitting at his desk, watching the show as it progresses on a large flat screen television.

Staff Member Russo is sat at another desk. He is busy typing away crazy new ideas for the show.

 

[Vic Venom]

Network representative Palmer Cannon enters the office, punctual as always in a Cardigan and small glasses.

Russo stops typing, looking up and over his shoulder winking at Mr. Cannon away from the gaze of Cartwright.

Following Palmer is his bodyguard Michael Tarver, wheeling a large mechanical device behind him.

Holding a briefcase in his hands, a lump slides down his throat as he clears his voice, laying the case on the GM's desk.

"Hello Mr. Cartwright. You may know me as the network representative. I've called for this meeting today due to the terrible state of our ratings!"  

[Cartwright]

Cartwright looks shocked that he is getting called-out for his bad ratings!

Cartwright: "It's not my fault that those rednecks watching at home in their trailer parks don't appreciate the fine art that is the World Wrestling Federation Guild!"

Of course it couldn't be Cartwright who was at fault.

Cartwright: "I mean it's already professional wrestling, how can I dumb it down even more for those idiots?!
What can we do?!
Should I just pull my trousers down and fart in to the video camera for two hours?!"

 

[Vic Venom]

A smug, self satisfied look in the eyes of Palmer Cannon as Tarver reaches grabbing the cloth covering the large contraption.

Palmer: "Three words, Cartwright. I have three words that can make all your problems go away. Realistic. Sports. Presentation. The fans want something that feels real. They don't want carny BS, they want action. Why else do you think you get killed by Football every week? It's all about the presentation. Michael? Do me the honors."

Taking a drink from the thermos he was holding the whole time, Palmer smiles as Tarver removes the cover from device that was wheeled into the office..  

[Cartwright]

Cartwright gasps as the brand-spanking, new and modern technology is revealed to him.

Cartwright: "Wow!
A Video Assistance Referee!
The thing they have in real football back home, in the greatest country in the world, England!"

Cartwright pauses as everyone in his office can hear the crowd booing.

Cartwright: "Maybe you are on to something Mr Cannon!
Pro wrestling is infamous for having the worst refereeing of all time!
This VAR technology will give the fans and competitors reassurance that the rules will be enforced just as well as they are in other sports!"

JR: "Is VAR really the answer to WWFGs problems?"

King: "Soccer is watched by millions all around the world, JR!
The numbers speak for themselves!"

 

[Vic Venom]

Tarver and Palmer fist bump each other. They didn't even need to pitch or describe it because Cartwright knew what it was being British. Russo quietly pumps his fist.

Palmer: "State
Of the art technology, Cartwright.
No more blown calls. No more dusty finishes. Just pure wrestling."

Rubbing his hands together, Russo makes eye contact with Palmer, nodding as Mr. Cannon puts his briefcase on the table.

Palmer: "We'll let you test it out at Wrestlemania.
See if it moves the needle, I can imagine the headlines now--
British genius shocks the world! We'll loan it out to you, on one condition.."

Looking back over his shoulder at Tarver for reassurance, the calming presence of Tarver putting Palmer at ease.  

[Cartwright]

Cartwright's face begins to turn angry.

Cartwright: "Loan?!
Condition?!
What kind of lousy network offers to help with THEIR ratings problem and then expects something from ME?!"

Cartwright slams his fists on to the top of the office desk.

Cartwright: "I'm about to stick my foot up your arsehole and you won't enjoy it!"

JR: "Has Cartwright ever done business before?!"

King: "He must be playing hard ball, I like it!"

 

[Vic Venom]

Remaining cool and collected with Tarvers reassurance, Russo starts to sweat a little bit as Palmer opens the briefcase. The outline of a title belt visible, the front plate is obscured as the gold flashes on the face of the British owner.

Palmer: "More of a sweetner. I'm sure Russo has told you
all about the work Foley has been doing with our friends estate?
We have a few vacancies to fill. Fortunately, a claimant has emerged."

He was a cold blooded killer, that Palmer Cannon. With Michael Tarver by his side, sometimes he seemed unstoppable in his role as a Network Representative.

Palmer: Audiences love old properties, they love feeling seen. They love dead brands, just like this one!
Remember when we did it in BBW? It worked then, it'll work here.
Wrestlemania. We send our guy, with our belt and our ref. To get you RATINGS. So how about it?

Palmer steps up, extending his hand to shake with Cart. Tarver stops him, stepping in front of Palmer. Instead of extending his palm, Tarver extends his fist offering a fistbump to the GM.  

[Cartwright]

Cartwright stares in to the briefcase as Palmer Cannon explains the situation.

Cartwright: "Hmm yes, nostalgia is a wonderful thing for guys like us!
The 30 year olds are popping at the mention of BBW still at this moment!
Maybe this can work out..."

Cartwright looks at Tarver's extended fist and the fistbump is completed!

 

[Vic Venom]

The fistbump seals the deal. Tarver and Cannon leave promptly, leaving the Video Assistance Referee behind him as Vince Russo types the segment that just happened smiling from ear to ear.  

[Drive Type Wild]

After the network reps leave, into the office comes Cartwright's WrestleMania opponent as cheers can be heard. What does he want?

"Hey, Carty. What kind of half-assed attempt at softening me up for WrestleMania do you have planned tonight?" Snypa asks, before turning to look at Staff Member Russo, smiling wickedly.

"Boo."  

[Cartwright]

Staff Member Russo practically dives behind his seat as Snypa freaks him out!

Cartwright looks at Snypa and stands up to address him.

Cartwright: "I have no idea what you are talking about!
Do you really think that I would need to do such a thing?!
I just thought that it would be cool to see you and the World Wrestling Federation Guild's World Heavyweight Champion team up to face two of the finest wrestlers from England for tonight's show!
I look forward to seeing my family defeat you and your family tonight!"

Cartwright must be so close to a Your Momma joke, but he hides it on his face.

Meanwhile, in the Boiler Room.

Former SWA commissioner Mick Foley looks down at the texts from Russo, clearly overjoyed to speak with him. Unable to text back due to the Sock around his hand he called him on speaker, unaware of his present predicament.  

[Cartwright]

Cartwright and Snypa suddenly hear a phone ringing and being answered.

Russo: "WHISPERWHISPERWHISPERBRO!
WHISPERWHISPERWHISPERHE'S GOING TO KILL ME BRO!
WHISPERWHISPERWHISPERMY LIFE IS IN DANGER BRO!
WHISPERWHISPERWHISPERI SWEAR TO GOD BRO!
WHISPERWHISPERWHISPERSEND HELP BRO!"

The whispering stops and Staff Member Russo peeks his head over his seat to see Cartwright and Snypa staring at him.

Russo: "Just a private conversation bros!"

 

[Drive Type Wild]

Snypa laughs at Staff Member Russo and then turns back to Cartwright.

"Funny. My family, as you call them, were slapping you around long before I arrived in this industry. I just made it cooler. Lightning struck for you once; at WrestleMania, you're gonna be the one who gets struck. Later."

Snypa laughs, before leaving the office and the boss to his devices.
