It had been a day like many other days at the temple. From the moment she and her brother had awoken they were on the go. Although it was more of Vadoma dragging Kieran along. Mostly of his own free will. Although he would give her his usual grump and frown it wasn’t long before she had been able to drag him from the family living area of the temple they shared with their father’s.
Since they were bigger now and more mobile they had been given free reign of certain areas. There were some places in the temple that just weren’t made for children, though, and they were not permitted entrance. Vadoma had tested this a few times to see just how far she could sneak in. It was never very far. And she concluded that it definitely had to be magic that kept her from seeing these places. Magic that either of her parents could place to misdirect her or whisk her away to another room in the temple.
But today’s game was hide and seek. The first place she had hidden was on the ledge of one of the tower windows. She could overlook just about the entire temple grounds from up here and she had sat there for hours before Kieran finally found her. His turn to hide didn’t last long though as she had found him hiding behind a curtain in the throne room. Not having the heart to tell him she could still see his feet. As Kieran leaned against the high back throne that Grendel was usually seated she scrambled out of the room. Her feet carrying her swiftly down the stairs. Stopping to look this way and that for any place to hide. Not finding anything to her liking she skipped outside. The sun was barely setting however the shield that held over the temple blocked out most light that would harm them so it was rarely a worry. The soft pinks and oranges of the sunset sky darkened to deep purples and blues. The faint glow of stars barely visible.
Vadoma had just about almost forgotten about the game until she could hear Kieran call ‘Ready or not’ from a distance. Stumbling forward with a squeak she ran in a couple circles before she decided to head further out into the main courtyard and it didn’t take very long for her swift feet to carry her to the edge of the grounds.
Another place they had never been allowed without either Ravnos or Grendel with them. Her fathers never really told her why. Just that it was dangerous for her and Kieran. Just like everything else seemed to be.
“Vadoooooommmaaaaaaaaa….!” Kieran was calling for her. Obviously a trick to get her to stick her head out so that he could find her. Well she wasn’t going to fall for that. Spotting a tall hedge she quickly scrambled inside but what awaited her on the other side of the hedge was not solid ground. It was a rather steep drop off that sent her sliding down a rocky slope. Scraping her knees and hands in the way down. Once she reached the bottom of the slope red eyes stared wide back up it. It looked too steep for her to climb.
Where she was now was thick and wooded. This had to be outside the border. She could feel it. The air here didn’t feel as magical as it did there. There was some though, she could feel it in the dirt that her fingers dug into.
The young vampire continued to stare up the slop until the sound of movement nearby caught her attention. Her exposure to the world was still very limited and so she sat there watching as a nearby bush rustled, eyes wide. This was every scary thing come to get her she just knew it. Grasping at her dark braid for comfort when suddenly something small popped out. It was white with red eyes that glittered. It looked long like a snake but was furry. Vadoma had never seen anything or heard of anything like it before. It spotted her and lifted itself upon its hinde legs with a hiss.
“Oh, hello there.” She was taken a back, but only a little. It was awfully cute for whatever it was and all she wanted to do was run over, scoop it up and pet it. But the hiss made her unsure of even moving from the spot. They both stared at each other for what seemed like a million heartbeats until the little creature turned and began to walk away. She watched it walk away before it stopped and turned its head over its shoulder to stare at her. Almost as if it were asking her if she would follow.
As it slipped into the scrub bushes she got to her feet. Brushing off her hands and knees before glancing back up the slope. They would probably discover she was missing soon enough. Ravnos and Grendel always seemed to know where she was. Her gaze drifted back in the direction the little creature had scurried off in and she took a few tentative steps before she stopped. Turned to look back and then scurried off after it as quick as she could.
