xxxxxSᴛᴇᴀᴅғᴀsᴛ:
Aonghus has always remained true to course, determined to follow the path he walks. Once his mind is set to something, it’s near impossible to sway his resolve.

xxxxxLᴀᴄᴏɴɪᴄ:
Aonghus doesn’t talk much, but when he does, man, it’s pretty powerful. He doesn’t see the need to talk when there are so many ways to communicate otherwise– and sometimes more effectively. Furthermore, Aonghus understands the power of carefully chosen words, and prefers to think things through clearly before saying things.

xxxxxWɪsᴇ:
Aonghus’s wisdom comes from experience seeing the best and worst of people in his life, from making mistakes or seeing mistakes, from feeling and growing from his mistakes. An eclectic set of experiences and exposure to different faiths has made him open minded and accepting without compromising his own principles. He acknowledges his emotions and tries to think things through with empathy, honor, and a long-term goal in mind.

xxxxxHᴏɴᴏʀᴀʙʟᴇ:
Arden is a forest town, small enough that everyone knows everyone, and where the whole village really does help raise the children. Aonghus understood from young that the forest was part of that village, that the loch wasn’t just a tourist attraction but the lifestream of the village, and that there was something sacred about nature– whatever it was. He also and got from his community that there was something to learn from everyone, that people were at their core kind and good, and that honorable deeds had their own reward.

xxxxxDᴇᴛᴀɪʟ Oʀɪᴇɴᴛᴇᴅ:
Aonghus has always had a keen eye and laser focus. Combined with his determination, this has made him an attentive person, and over time, that attentiveness has clued him in details and patterns not immediately recognizable.

xxxxxAᴅᴀᴘᴛᴀʙʟᴇ:
While always steadfast and true to his goal, Aonghus has learned that life does not always go according to plan and has embraced adaptability and flexibility as part of the journey. He has become much more patient and slow to frustrate– instead when the plan is foiled, he’ll curse, acknowledge his frustration or disappointment, then come up with a way to move forward.

xxx𝒞𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxx
Aonghus was born to Neacel and Eilidh Ghobhainn, of Arden, Scotland. They raised their son in the family home, which had been there for hundreds of years. The family were all trained in a craft, usually involving the large shop attached to the side of the house. Neacel worked with wood, Tam, Neacel’s pa, worked with metal. Aonghus quickly fell in love with his grandfather’s craft, and was taught to handle his own in the shop. Aonghus loved this, and introduced himself as Tam’s apprentice.

xxx𝒮𝒸𝒽𝑜𝑜𝓁 𝒴𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓈xxx
The Ghobhainn’s lived deep enough in the forests of Arden that it was a half hour drive to the nearest primary school. Aonghus didn’t particularly like school, preferring to be at home learning from the forge, so after a few years he was just homeschooled: Eilidh, a nurse by training, would cover the local clinic and send Aonghus around the community to learn from and help other community members before he was allowed to return to the forge. He grew to resent parts of his upbringing, including his family’s deep catholicism. He didn’t believe it correct. He secretly studied Druidism instead, though it still didn’t seem perfect for his views. Anything was better than his parents’ religion.

xxx𝒜𝒹𝓊𝓁𝓉𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxx
Aonghus passed all his GED exams (barely, but who needed to learn public speaking and gym?). He got in a terrible fight with his parents over his religious views, then left home to roam through Scotland. He tried to move to Glasgow, but soon ran out of money. He realized he was entirely penniless when he realized he didn’t even have enough money to pay his bill at the pub. He could have snuck out and gotten away, but honor got the better of him and he returned half an hour later, and offered to wash dishes or do chores to make up for the bill. It so happened that his confession was witnessed by a Commander Shepard in the Royal Navy, who paid his due and invited him to sit with her group. They talked into the wee hours of the morning and by the end of the week, Aonghus had enlisted as a metal worker. Shortly after completing basic training, Aonghus embarked on his first voyage at sea.

Bonus points, It was an honorable profession, one his parents wouldn’t be able to critique. (They still did. A lot. Mostly by phone, after which he would drop the line and not call for another few months. Soon, both parties preferred to spend their limited time together not arguing but understanding each other.)

Over his tours he was promoted, worked closely with the equipment specialists as well as the other welders. Military service gave him a new appreciation for not only school learning, but also understanding people and how to communicate with people in all kinds of ways. He quite enjoyed his time on the maiden voyage, but was quite glad to return to land. He did this twice more, then he stopped back by home. The house was falling to ruin, standing empty since his mother had passed. Finding a letter tucked in the old bench, Aonghus learned it had been his grandfather’s intention for the home to move to his hands.

As Aonghus was working on fixing up the house, he became quite familiar with the local forest system, using it for foraging, hunting, and wood. There was one day he was rather deep in the woods, when he noticed the air getting thick. It was smoke. It was getting heavy, and he wasn’t terribly close to home. What caused the fire?

As he was fighting to walk through toward safety, he heard a soft cry from within the trees. It sounded like a baby, perhaps a young child. He tucked his mouth and nose within his sweater, turning back to push through the heavy air toward the cry. It took a few minutes of searching, but he found the source. A tree had alighted, and at its root, a small bundle of blankets and leaves. Aonghus pulled off his heavy coat, covering the bundle to extinguish the errant flames. He scooped up the tiny boy, turning to flee the fire.

As he ran to a clearing, Aonghus waved down the local fire brigade, who quickly summoned an ambulance. Despite not knowing this baby, Aonghus was determined to remain by his side. (plus the paramedic insisted he needed some looking after as well.)

It took several long hours for the babe to come out of the surgery, and for doctors to allow Aonghus to see him once more. The local police had searched for the boy’s mother, but weren’t sure who she must be. Perhaps she had been lost to the flame. As time went by, Aonghus tried to find this boy’s family, but the odds became increasingly bleak. Finally, the child was able to go home, but was without a home to go to.

Aonghus was told that the boy would move into a foster home, or perhaps an orphanage. On instinct, he offered to adopt the boy he had come to love. As the paperwork was drawn up, Aonghus put in his retirement from the navy, citing his new responsibility into fatherhood. Finally, papers were signed, and Aonghus had a new son, affectionately named Tàmhas Neacel Ghobhainn, after Aonghus’ grandfather and father.

For Tàmhas, Aonghus built a little crib, then set to work building a career for himself. He took his place behind his grandfather’s anvil, remembering all the training he’d collected over the years. As he started to work, the town rejoiced that the smithy was open once more. He had work pile in, and was able to get his name out to keep up a steady thrum of business.

As Tàmhas grew, so did Aonghus’ love for the boy. Despite his missing leg and all the scars lacing him, Tàmhas opted to learn the forge, though he remained under careful guidance of Aonghus. Tàmhas helped Aonghus learn new skills, just as Aonghus taught him the way of the forge. Without a child, Aonghus never would have learned the patience he developed, much less cooking, cleaning, and all sorts of domestic skills. Luckily, Tàmhas was happy to learn the same skills alongside his pa.

There was a day when Tàmhas was nearing his eighth birthday that he’d been left in the forge a moment while Aonghus stepped out to gather a few supplies. When Aonghus walked back in, there was a scream and everything lit up. He grabbed his fire extinguisher and sprayed the shop, spotting a very shaky, but otherwise unharmed Tàmhas, crying because he’d lost the blade. After a large hug (and lots of tears), both realized that some sort of miracle must have happened.

It wasn’t until a few years later, on the boy’s 11th, that they learned what must have happened. Tàmhas was of magical descent. He had been invited to a magic school, and as much as it would pain Aonghus, he knew it was to his son’s benefit to attend. The two had a fun weekend together before Tàmhas left on a train and Aonghus drove home, sighing at the silence.

Time seemed to drag on, but finally, winter struck. Not only did it make working in the forge a bit cooler, but it meant he could see hit little boy again. He drove all the way to London, then ended up meeting one of Tam's friends. This boy also lived in Arden, and unbeknownst to him, was the subject of many rumors around their small town. Aedan walked through the forest to find his home had been sold, and his brother gone. Aonghus convinced him to come back for the night... and Tam convinced him to stay the full winter break. This was good, since a big snowstorm came and laid a few feet of snow on the ground.

The following summer, Aedan returned, agreeing to live with them and allowed Aonghus a guardianship. The boy wanted to become a master blacksmith, so Aonghus agreed to take him under wing. Quickly, the trio became a lovely little family unit, and Aonghus couldn't be more proud of his boys.

xxxxxIᴍᴀɢɪɴᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ:
The most beautiful things in the world came from the heart of an artist.
Tàmhas has a wild imagination, full of vivid fantasies. Nothing is ever dull around him, and he has the ability to brighten up any sour mood. He is great at thinking outside the box, coming up with interesting solutions for otherwise frustrating problems.

xxxxxGᴇɴᴛʟᴇ:
The way of the smith is the way of the land, which includes all things that live upon it– the tree’s roots wind against the stone, the bones of the dead become oil and coal. All of life is not inscribed, but imbued in the stone.
Nature is a big part of Tàmhas’ life, and he carries a great reverence for everything natural–from the stone and the water to plants and animals, magic isn’t just an abstract force but it lives in the souls of everything on the earth and deserves respect. Practically, this means he does not prefer not to waste or pollute anything–if there is a process to do things in an environmentally friendly, pro-social kind of way, it is worth doing, Capitalist culture is wasteful and despicable.

xxxxxSᴛᴇᴀᴅʏ:
You have to be firm to work with metal, and strike it true, with force, strength, and absolute certainty. If the strike is hesitant, it will show in the metal.
So too are people, Tàmhas has learned. Even if he is conflicted or unsure, he doesn’t show it to outsiders. Instead, Tam prefers to think and mull things through, and be able to present a confident decision once he has it.

xxxxxOʙsᴇʀᴠᴀɴᴛ:
Hold steady boy. This may be dead metal, but if you pay attention, you can tell everything about the piece being built from the moment you enter, and predict what will happen soon: Listen to the sounds of the saw, feel the heat of the smelter. Be always aware, for a machine is a tool that does only what it was built to. You are the smith. You must see the course of the piece, and you must make sure everything and everyone in your forge is safe.
Even before he was able to swing a hammer or help in the forge, Tàmhas was trained to observe everything around him with great detail. He engages as many senses as he can, putting together a web of how something works or an image of the space around him. He is aware of everything in his vicinity–well, once he gets used to it– and ready to react if something goes awry.

xxxxxCᴏᴏᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ:
Working with others helps everyone around.
That’s just how Tàmhas was raised. He loves working with others, even though he’s usually not the leader of the group. He thinks that in working together, everyone gets to highlight their skills, while having others help with their weaknesses. Plus, working together is a great way to learn.

xxxxxEᴍᴘᴀᴛʜᴇᴛɪᴄ:
Everyone has feelings, but it takes a strong man to express them for everyone to see.
This is how Tàmhas has always been taught. He fully believes himself brave just for sharing his feelings. Thanks to being in touch with his own feelings, Tàmhas has gotten pretty good at identifying others’ emotions, even when they don’t outwardly express them. Unfortunately, this translates to him being swayed by the emotions of others.

[History unbeknownst to him or his dad:
His mother, Xulia, was a nymph who had been in a relationship with a human, against the better wishes of her mother, the matriarch of their nymphic clan. This went downhill when her pregnancy was revealed, and relations soured into conflict. A fight broke out and Xulia hid her newborn in the roots of a tree before she had to run. A fire swept through the area soon after, and when Xulia returned, the babe was gone. She despaired, thinking the fire had taken him, but hoping some kind person had adopted him–there had been no trace!]

Meanwhile, a local blacksmith, Aonghus, was taking a walk when he noticed the air getting thick with smoke. He heard the cries of a child in the fire and charged through to rescue him. Aonghus was able to rescue the boy just in time, though he had been licked by the tongues of fire. He hurried to stabilize the baby, then summoned the hospital. It took hours of long, terrifying surgery, and hours of interrogation by the local constable, but finally, Aonghus had the baby returned, safely, to him. The boy was so small, now even smaller, his leg missing from the burns. It was touch and go for a while as he healed, but soon enough, he was able to go home.

That brought Aonghus to the realization, he had no idea where this kid’s home was. He had gone back many times over those weeks and inquired the local authorities about missing children, no one claimed the child. As he tried to find the boy a home, he realized the boy already had one. He set to work building a proper crib, and signed paperwork to officially adopt this boy, who he named Tàmhas Neacel.

Tàmhas grew alongside his dad, helping wherever he could. He learned all about the world, despite not having a formal education. When he was old enough, Aonghus let him into the forge, though it was only to watch. But, their time strengthened their bonds.
One day, when he was 7, Tàmhas decided he was old enough to try and help. Knowing his dad was inside getting a drink, the boy used the forge tongs (which were super heavy!) and attempted to drop the still-hot blade into the barrel of oil. As soon as he did, a fireball erupted upward. By the time Aonghus heard the cry and ran in, he was sure his son would’ve been badly burned once more. As if by miracle, Tàmhas was un-marred, though quite scared. Good thing there was nothing a big ol’ dad hug couldn’t fix. There was then a rule about Tàmhas not being in the forge unless dad was there too. Probably smart...

His occasional odd behavior never was explained until his eleventh finding day (which they’d made into a birthday), when it was revealed that he was magical. Quite literally a being of magic. It brought into Aonghus’ thoughts if this boy weren’t literally a gift from the gods. They gathered up belongings and stepped foot into the Magical World. Tàmhas was uncertain about school, but with a few words of bravery, Tàmhas was on his way to a magical new life.

xxx𝒮𝒸𝒽𝑜𝑜𝓁 𝒴𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓈xxx
School was really scary to go to at first, away from Pa and everything Tam knew, but luckily, he made friends pretty quickly. His closest pal turned out to be from Arden as well, just across the forest! It was crazy that it took them traveling to London (then all the way back to Scotland) to meet. They made friends with several others, but it made the year go much better. The only real downside to the year was that Tam discovered he wasn't able to fly, but that was okay. Quidditch looked pretty dangerous.

That winter, Aedan's brother hadn't met him at the station, so Tam and Pa gave him a ride back to Arden. Those two left to the forest, but they were back soon enough. That was when Aedan moved in to live in their cottage. They had lots of fun learning in the forge and playing in the snow.

The rest of the year went by pretty smoothly, then the summer was spent working in the heat of the forge. Aedan had requested to apprentice under Pa, so they spent extra time working. Going back to school was a bit easier this time, and the friends had lots of fun. Aedan spent a lot of time studying, but Tam could always convince him to break away for silly activities... or a nice sing-a-long.

If ever a chance for excitement and intrigue comes her way, Maggey is there to heed the call. She loves exploring and learning about the world through discovery. Even small trips earn monikers like “quest” or “journey” to make the daily life seem so much more interesting.

xxxxxCᴀʀɪɴɢ:
Maggey has a kind heart, and is often soft with those she loves. She’s got a strong maternal instinct, and will go out of her way to protect kids. She especially hates when people try to ruin everyday magic.

xxxxxOᴘᴛɪᴍɪsᴛɪᴄ:
No matter what, there’s always a bright side to life, and Maggey is determined to find it. Even on the dark days, she tries to be the sunshine for those around her.

xxxxxEᴀʀɴᴇsᴛ:
You won’t ever catch Maggey in a lie. She believes that honesty is something to be valued, and that people are often too comfortable in their lies. That said, she’s true to her core values, and will often try to soften the harsh truth for those she deems innocent in the way of truth.

xxxxxCᴜʀɪᴏᴜs:
Maggey has so many questions about this great big world, least of all how it works in whole. She loves to learn through exploration and self-discovery, but she can also be seen turning to group wisdom for facts and knowledge.

xxxxxSᴛʀᴏɴɢ:
Not only is she a physical powerhouse, Maggey learned from a young age what it took to be mentally and emotionally strong. She is able to rally herself through any negatives, and keep herself afloat and pushing on until she can rediscover the good of life.

Magdelena was the first child of Vitor and Lysa Anderson, the local farrier and veterinarian in Arden (and the only ones in the area). As kids, Maggey and her younger brother of three years, Lachlan, were menaces to each other:
As a child, Maggey spent most of her time running around the nearby forest or at the Ghobhainn Forge. There Neacel Ghobhainn, the blacksmith, nurtured her passion for bladesmithing.

When Maggey was 11, she was informed she was a witch–and not of the druidic magic that Mr. Macy nearby told stories about– and was to attend Hogwarts School. She was a bit apprehensive, but in the end, her excitement and curiosity won out– it wasn’t just a whole new place but a whole new magical world to explore. At Hogwarts she was sorted into Hufflepuff house. She did decently in her classes, but was always more interested in breaks where she could return to studying smithing. At school she was more interested in the social scene and the parties going on. When she was 13, her parents decided to make the move to Gargunnock half an hour east.

As soon as they were 10, Maggey and Aonghus Ghobhainn started seriously dating... until he moved away to join the navy, the b*****d. Maggey threw herself into her work, and at only 22, became a recognized Master Bladesmith. She also advanced to a Journeyman Farrier. She purchased a small farm, then built a forge in an old barn. Her specialty were historical weaponry, swords... and horses. She had a few of her own, along with a small herd of mini Highland Cows. It was around then that Aonghus reached out to his former best friend, admitting life was really difficult. Apparently he'd rescued, then adopted a little boy, and was struggling after his mother's passing.

Maggey immediately drove to Arden, planning on staying a few days. As soon as she got there, her old spark for the redhead kicked in, especially as she watched him do his best at parenting the poor little kid. Maggey helped where she could, but Aonghus was far more focused on his little Tàmhas than he could be for any sort of romance. Maggey remained a distant friend, occasionally visiting her friends in Arden, including Aeo.

A few years later, Maggey became a Master-Rank Farrier as well, adding to her already impressive repertoire. Most of her time was spent tending farm or managing orders from all over the UK. When Tàmhas was eleven, Maggey invited Aeo to her house and they began to rekindle their romance. Maggey had wanted to officially meet Tàmhas that winter (since he had always been a little to young for much in the way of memory)... but life got in the way. Suddenly her friend had two boys to look after, and chaos reigned.

After a couple more years of dating while the boys were in school, and Maggey got some unexpected news. Contraceptive failed. Driving to Arden, she and Aonghus had a serious discussion. They decided she'd be there to tell the boys, then hopefully move in, after getting blessings, of course. Maggey agreed to this plan, packing up her house where she could between bouts of morning sickness.
