Yuya faces off against Reed Pepper who is a chef that uses cook-pal monsters in duels. Because he is hungry, Yuya isn't doing his best.

After getting some food into him, Yuya manages to beat Reed with the advice that there is no such thing as a perfect recipe for one can always strive to make meals better.

Declan is researching into the missing professors of LID and has yet to discover that two mystery duelists from parts unknown have been conducting shadow duels and trapping duelists into cards. Yuya knows the truth and so does the Sylvio's father after Sylvio's dad chased Yuya to an alleyway and then ran off scared. Yuya was accused of hallucinating by Niko, but could not determine what he saw since he did spend an all nighter preparing for the day's duel.

Yuya's 2nd opponent is a quizzmaster who cheats to win.

Much to everyone's surprise Yuya wins the duel and shows that cheating does not earn you a victory.

As Julia Crystal threatens Zuzu for information with a duel, claiming she is from the Leo Institute, Yuto who is the mystery man that looks like Yuya shows up after Yuto's partner Shay tries to force duel Julia. Yuto claims that by dueling Julia, they aren't going to get anywhere. Then just before reinforcements arrive, Yuto disappears thanks to Zuzu's bracelet. Yuya picks up Zuzu's polymerization card, but question is, what will he do with it since Zuzu has fled the scene.

Yuya faces fortune tells Aura who is an expert at what she does, which is predicting things. Yuya doesn't buy into her business though and proceeds to duel her as she is his third opponent. Aura uses a fortune flip effect deck, which seems to be besting Yuya's Performapal deck. But then, Yuya is still somewhat distracted with how to improve and wow up his game. He probably doesn't realize that he stashed Zuzu's polymerization card into his deck.

Proving Aura's prediction about that being Yuya's last duel wrong, Yuya draws Polymerization and uses it to win the duel and came up with a new way to use his pendulum cards by way of Pendulum fusion.

Julia, Kit and Dipper face off against Shay thinking that if they take Shay down then they will be better than the professors at Leo corp. Sadly, they failed but since Declan arrived, nothing bad happened to the three duelists. Zuzu now knows the identity of the man who looks like Yuya and his name is Yuto. She also found out that the one taken named Lulu was Shay's sister.

Yuya must face his best friend Gong as the final duelist to get into the junior arc league and he must do it without a cheering section. Gong surprises everyone with a synchro summon, but still follows the superheavy strong style of dueling by using only monsters.

Yuya beats Gong by using two fusion summons thanks to his pendulum monster Trump witch. Now Yuya is ready to go to the Junior arc league championships. But the secret is that these championships are a front to form an army to save the world.

Afraid at first to go on, Yuya has some alone time, but worries his friends when doing so. Then, to add more pressure, Yuya is to give the duelist's oath. Upon giving his speech, the youth arc league championship begins where Frederick beats some unknown kid. Next up is Ally vs Declan's little brother.

Ally loses against Riley, but she tried her best. Ally used a water deck and Riley used a camera deck with fusion monsters. Next up is Zuzu vs Julia.

Zuzu wins against Julia and Julia gives Zuzu a card to help her in future matches.

Yuya was lured by Grizzlepike's thugs away from the stadium in an attempt to make Gong weaker and to eliminate the competition, but both Yuya and Gong win their duels and now Yuya has to face Sylvio in the championship.
