Yuquan stood within the Forest of Witches, looking towards the trees, the way the leaves swayed gently back and forth in the wind, the way the silence seemed to be a deafening sound. It was all an ominous omen, but with the tournament only a few hours away training here was the best way he could become fully acclimated to his new found powers. The young slayer knew beyond a shadow of doubt that this forest was not one to be taken too lightly, as he could sense the killing intent radiating in the air. Yuquan wasn't particularly afraid of anything this forest had to throw at him, but he was cautious of his surroundings, ready for anything that might be about to leap out at him from their place of hiding. As If on cue, a giant bear emerged from beyond the shrubs and charged after him but Yuquan was faster though, jumping high into the air and landing flat on the branch of a tree after a single flip. The young mage knelt down and looked at the thing as it kept going on. By the way it was moving he was almost sure it hadn't even seen him in its rampage, almost as if... The thought had come to Yuquan in the nick of time, and he had been correct in his assumption. The bear had been running away from something else, something much bigger than itself. The branch that he was perched on didn't compare to the height of the new creature that reared its ugly head, a cross between what he thought was a moth and a wolf. As impossible as that combination may sound in it of itself, Yuquan knew there was no escaping this creature without a fight. After all he had come here for the sole purpose of training and fighting was naturally entailed. Besides, it was already too late to run away since the creature had already caught him in its sights and was now flapping double overtime to accost him. With a sigh Yuquan readied himself and began to act.
The mage flipped backwards and pressed his feet against the trunk of the tree just as the abomination flung its body at the branch he was on just moments ago. Without warning Yuquan pushed himself off the trunk and sped through the air directly at the creature. He spun once to gain downward momentum and brought his right leg down on the head of the hybrid, a hard, hollow sound emanating from the impact. Yuquan was sure that the kick alone would be enough, but life was never that simple. The moth flapped its wings wildly and whipped up a fierce whirlwind that blew him away with force, but Yuquan managed to quickly regain his balance and press the soles of his feet to the same tree trunk as before. Using his pure strength didn't seem to work against the creature, so he figured he might as well utilize his elemental abilities. They were always best against enemies that didn't appear to have an evident weakness. Flashing one of his hands to his side, Yuquan enclosed his palms and exerted the needed magical energy. Two long whips formed that extended to around five feet in length, pulsating with a dark blue aura. Yuquan flicks his wrist causing the the whips to snap, the sound pervading the air and creating an echo through the silent forest. With another flick of the wrist he brought the whips upward and then waved his arm outwards, slashing in an 'X' formation aimed directly at the creatures mid section. The hit connected and in its wake was a deep cut with and eruption of scarlet following it. The creature flailed about wildly, making a strange noise between screeching and howling. It knocked over several trees, the last being the one that Yuquan was still perched on. He began to move away without hesitation, hopping onto the branch of another tree and kept going so as not to be caught off guard by the rampaging creature.
It didn't take long for the creature to shrug off the stinging wound and continue its assault in earnest. Yuquan found himself tree hopping like a frog in heat. One false move could prove fatal. Finally after finding an opening he flung his whip forward, making it extend to the appropriate length so it would catch the tree he had just past, slicing a clean path through the trunk. The tree was cut in half without effort and started to topple over onto the creature that was now heading towards his current location for yet another assault. Yuquan didn't stay to watch the fruits of his labor, jumping from the tree he stood on the side: out of the creature's way and line of sight. Call it being over cautious, but the young slayer wasn't about to take chances. His initial tactic seemed to have taken effect though, as the massive body of the tree fell down on the creature and was now crushing it to the ground, rendering it flightless due to the wings being crushed under the weight. To be on the safe side, Yuquan jumped down from the tree and walked closer to the now unconscious creature. He had done it all without having to use his usual spells and waste magic power. That was some serious progress right there thought he was beginning to feel the after effects. Usually if something tried to kill him there would be nothing holding the slayer back from answering in kind with a powerful spell, but now it had been established that in some instances there was no need for such extremities. After taking a few moments to rest , he made his way deeper into forest, counting his victory against the creature as a adequate warm up. This was how Yuquan trained himself lately. What was a Mage who was too afraid to get their hands a little dirty in the name of bettering themselves? It personally gave him a feeling of accomplishment.
The slayer was walking thru a moderately sized clearing that loomed with darkness, only a little light shining through between the leaves of the trees. Yuquan wasn't afraid of the dark or anything, but other than that he couldn't help shake the feeling that something was close by. He was sure someone or something was watching him. Hopefully it wasn't one of the fabled Witches of the Forest. Though confident in his abilities he remembered his masters warnings about the Witches who called the Forest thier home as well as the stories he’d been told as a child. Yuquan walked along nonchalantly, wearing his usual stoic demeanor.
His natural instincts proved true as he came to a halt and slid to the side on one foot, dragging the other close by to keep pace. It was all just in time too. A small crater had been formed in the position that he'd been just moments ago, and the one that had created the crater was none other than bipedal fox-wolf- like creature. It's fur is mainly grayish-brown in coloration with crimson and black accents. It sports a pointed snout and ears, the insides of which have red coloration as well as a large, voluminous mane, primarily red in coloration but with more profound black tips. The mane somewhat resembles a ponytail, as a teal bangle down its length separates a mass of the mane from the lower portion. A black ruff on can be seen on the upper body, pointed at the shoulders from which the arms extend. The creatures upper arms are thin, whereas its lower arms, while still slim, are bulkier. The arms have spiky extensions of fur at the elbows, and it's three claws, as well as the claws on its feet, are red in coloration.
What was with this forest and these strange beasts anyway? There must be some unknown experimentation by the Witches or something the he mused. When the dust finally cleared and the creature stood to its full height looking down at him, Yuquan met its glare , taking a few more steps away as he appraised the size of the thing. It stood a perfect three feet taller than the elf with bulging muscles and a wide breadth. It was one thing Yuquan disliked the most, anything living that stood taller or was essentially bigger than he was; as this would mean he was being looked down on.
Yuquan got into his fighting stance and waited for the creature to make the first move, and as if reading into his approval that it may have the first go the creature sprang into action. It was poised to strike as it seemingly blurred a bit and vanished from sight, catching Yuquan slightly off guard. The slayer barely had time to move his hands up to block the clawed stab. It was much more powerful than he had originally gauged, as he felt a stinging pain in his arm as he pulled away, gaining some distance between himself and the wolf. He eyed the place where he had been hit and took note of the bruise that was there. This was definitely going to be harder than the moth wolf. The young slayer sprang into action, this time being the instigator of their little dance. Yuquan used his own agility to make his way behind the creature in a round house kick position. The creature was quick to react, bringing its powerful arms up about to block the hit and pushed Yuquan away: sending the young mage flying. Yuquan slid along the ground and then used the backward momentum to push himself into the air and back onto a tree at the far end of a clearing, pressing the soles of his feet into its trunk and pushing himself off at a start once more. This time he did a quick spin in mid air as he torpedoed towards the beast , bringing his foot around to connect with the creature's midsection. It wasn't so much a wasted attempt as it was an attempt made too fervently. The wolf snatched the young elf's leg out of mid air, spins him around a few times and then flung Yuquan away as if he was yesterday's garbage.
