It was morning — early, the sun just starting to climb its way up the horizon — and Kuruka was very, very wide awake. She hadn’t slept well last night, for some odd reason, and as a result was full of kinetic energy. She ambled out of her den, plum-colored eyes searching the small swath of lions who were also up and about at this early hour. Her scan of the small crowd came up short: where she was looking for the familiar, stark black-and-white of Marzel’s coat, she found nothing. Disappointing, but not wholly unsurprising.

As a result, she had some free time to kill. Hmph. She wasn’t sure what to do, but she decided she needed a stretch before she went anywhere. Inching her front two paws forward, she bent low to the ground, butt in the air, and sighed as she pushed herself deeper into the stretch. Gods above it felt so good. Before she was able to return to a relaxed standing position, a yawn escaped her mouth, a symptom of her night of no sleep. Kuruka came back upright, blinking hard. A bit of moisture had escaped her eyes at the large yawn. Sleepily, she looked about, pondering her next move.
