It was a lot to try and take in or even explain, but Hikaru seemed to be more interested the Lucario had expected. Unsurprisingly she didn't know what a Shadow Pokemon was. Surprisingly though, Lucario was a little surprised that her first question was how to purify a Pokemon. To be honest, he had no idea exactly how it worked. To him it seemed like magic or some form of mysticism. "It would be easiest to describe purifying as unlocking ones heart, or with a special machine" either way the only thing he remembered about that time was having Gio call his name out. Everything else was dark. Once he'd been purified it wasn't long before Gio and him had escaped.
It was more scary than anything. To think that somewhere out there people thought that capturing other Trainers Pokemon was somehow acceptable was scary enough. What Lucario thought was scary though was the fact that it didn't stop there, Shadow Pokemon were created or made.
He was getting lost in his thoughts when Hikaru snapped him back to reality. "This Tunnel must open up to a larger space at some point," he nodded in approval "Or even an exit" he mumbled out.
Arezu reminded Gio that he was supposed to challenge the Dojo the were at before they ended up here. She also requested that if he was up for it they should have a battle. He was always up for a battle, but he really needed to get to Kalos. "Tell you what," Gio said as he stopped walking for a brief moment. He shot out a finger out pointing towards Arezu. "We need to get to Kalos" he smirked. "You could travel with us for abit and we could battle anytime you like" in reality he probably would accept a challenge from her right now if she asked. What kind of Trainer would he be if he turned a challenge down?
All the way to the top with her Pokemon huh? I mean that was the dream always Gio thought to himself. Her response definitely was a little bit of a surprise to him but that brought up his next question. "So what's the top of the mountain?" she was right though being Champ would be the best way to see and battle with new stronger Trainers. For Gio that was the top, being Champion was the only goal he had, but what would be the challenge after?

If purification meant "unlocking one's heart", did that mean that Shadow Pokemon were those that had their hearts locked? Hikaru shuddered to imagine what that was like. Her mind immediately jumped to a mental image of a pokemon whose aura had been sucked out, a shadow of its usual self. The thought was deeply unnerving.
Slightly less unnerving but a bit annoying, was how Gio and Arezu suddenly stopped walking right as Hikaru was starting to get excited about finding an exit or an opening in the cave.
Arezu herself stopped when Gio did, eyeing his pointed finger. She hadn't expected what he said at all, saying they should travel together. All the way to Kalos, even. Her neck felt a bit hot, for some reason. She rubbed at it. "Really?" Was this normal? She didn't know if it was normal. She wished she could ask someone, but it wasn't like any of her pokemon would have any real advice for her. And now she realized she was maybe taking too long to answer. "Didn't we just meet each other?" she joked. Well, Gio was pretty easy to talk to, and she did have some stuff she could get done back in Kalos. As she thought of it, she starting thinking, 'what's the worst that could happen?'. "Sure. Just as long as you promise to not blow me up in real life," she added, motioning to the wee pineco.
"So what's the top of the mountain?"
Arezu shrugged. "Haven't really thought about it." She thought of what she'd been doing, over this past, what was it, year and a half? "Oh, and at this point I guess getting a black belt would be cool. Doesn't have to do with pokemon though. I guess you get new goals as you go, right?"

The subzero temperature of the water felt almost to realistic to be merely a part of a dream. Even felt he could barely breath it was so real. He half wondered if someone found his sleeping body and put him in a freezer in the waking world. Just as his breathing was getting to hard to handle, something fell in the water from above. "Huh?!" It startled Evan to be sure, but after a moment he realized they were in fact just above an air pocket. Well, more than an air pocket it was a whole freaking cave! Breaking above the water's surface, Evan quickly swam over to the edge of the water and pulled himself up on to dry land. It was still freezing, but at least his breathing was getting better. A bit of shivering and a quick change of clothes made him feel a bit better about being in the freezing cave.
Quickly joining their trainer, Evan's team scrambled up onto the shore as well. "This is quite the excursion we've found ourselves on, huh?" Evan chuckled as he aided Fylgia out of the water. 'Certainly.' Louhi voiced. Saga silently nodded her head as well. 'What of the others we left on shore?' The psychic inquired. Evan took a moment to ponder this. "It's a dream right? So I'm sure they'll be fine." He replied. "It's not like our physical bodies have been separated." Even continued. Louhi gave way a sigh. He was right. Even still, the psychic attempted to send a psychic message to the wayward group of their whereabouts as to be sure they should not look for them in the endless waters should they want to return to Evan's side.
Speaking of which, one such Pokemon had found himself in the presence of a few humans he recognized. While his position as well as the rest of Evan's left behind Pokemon had been revealed the Dinosaur in the lead, Origin, hadn't said much of anything to a illusioned Zoroark. The Zoroark, spoke with the female of the group. It was then the words 'name' came up. Oh! He hadn't introduced himself. Given most humans couldn't understand Pokespeech, the Dinosaur was still inclined to respond. "My name is Origin!" He voiced, puffing his chest up some, as if his name inspired such pride. "I remember you from that place, you were talking with my trainer, Evan." The Tyrunt continued. The Zoroark had mentioned something along the lines of recognizing Origin's species, so that must mean he somewhat remembered him.. but the name Evan was likely to spark more of a firm recollection. Lucario figured they needed to change the subject some, they were starting to speak about some dark things that didn't bring up good memories in the slightest. "How did you and your human meet?" he wasn't really a talker so it was abit awkward trying to switch gears like this.
Arezu seemed shocked that Gio would invite her out to Kalos for a trip. Apparently it was mostly due to the fact they had just met. She agreed though just as long as Gio promised not to blow her up in real life. "Hey for best results stay at home" he joked even though he knew being kept put in a place like a house was not something he could easily do. Just not enough to keep him entertained.
He could tell she really liked this Karate thing. He remembered seeing somewhere once where certain Trainers feel the heat of battle and don't consider a Pokemon battle won or lost untill the Trainer has been beat as well, literally.
New goals as you go though that was something Gio new he could get one hundred percent behind. When he first started Training Pokemon he just wanted to grow and get stronger with his Pokemon. Then he started get Gym badges and he just wanted to get all of them. Now while it's pretty much the same he definitely needed to grow stronger he was practically dumping his time into Training just to get over the fighting Gyms. "Since you're gonna come to Kalos with us then maybe you can teach us a thing or two about knocking out Fighting Type Trainers" he made a fist towards Arezu as if he was crushing something in his hand, before quickly switching both of his hands back behind his head. "So where do you suppose this cave'll spit us out at?" he started walking down the tunnel again.
He wasn't really worried about his Skarmory, he knew that she would find a way to him anyway. Plus if this was a dream, was she really gone anyhow? The one thing he knew for sure was that where ever she was, she was probably battling or training. Plus being a Flying Type it would be way easier to find them than if she was say a Bug Type.
Meanwhile, Skarmory was still outside of the mountain perched on the edge of a cliff. She found a few different caves but there was no sure way to know which one led to her Trainer, so she figured it best to just wait. This way she wouldn't get lost in a cave or so that she wouldn't miss Gio if they did find an exit while she was checking a cave. Plus, she just felt kind of majestic perched up on a ledge here. She could see alot, like the huge tree and what seemed to be a flat plains in the distance. Also there were tons of Pokemon here as well but they all seemed to be cave dwellers or Ice Types. Nothing that caught her eye just yet. So she sat perched waiting to prey on anything she deemed worthy of battle with her.

Hikaru didn't notice that Lucario was trying to change the topic, but that was because what they were talking about had already put when she met Arezu on her mind. "It was rather normal, I think. I lived in the, well I supposed it's called the 'wild' though it isn't like I knew that back then. Arezu came traveling through, and I challenged her to a battle." Hikaru had always wanted to get stronger, and challenged the other riolu and many trainers to battles, even though she wasn't very good at it. "I'd always thought the pokemon traveling with humans must be happy, getting to train and battle. I was glad when Arezu seemed to want to take me along." Hikaru had actually been worried for a while after Arezu caught her. If she didn't do a good job, would her new trainer get rid of her? Back then she was just a riolu, and not very strong. But Arezu had helped her train, and she had gotten a lot stronger since then.
"Hey for best results stay at home"
Arezu grimaced, imagining Gio blowing up her treehouse, the one she and her pokemon had spent weeks putting together. "Ha, remind me to never invite you over."
Just challenging the dojo would be a good start for practicing against fighting type trainers, but Arezu was already thinking of advice. She'd actually thought about it a lot, given how often Hikaru would spar against fellow fighting types. "Yeah, sure. Hikaru has a lot of practice with it." She noticed he knew how to make a proper fist, and her lips twitched up in a smile. She was tempted to throw a hand against his wrist in a self-defense move that would turn into them being back-to-back and end with him on the ground. But that was probably going to far. Oh, and he had that tiny explosive in a sling so. Yeah. Not a great idea.
"No idea where we'll get out. Maybe back near that big tree?" Arezu looked towards Hikaru, but the lucario hadn't had any insight into which way to go. It made sense- even if she could sense aura, it wasn't like the caves were alive or anything. "Hey Sham, do you have any way to tell how to get out?" she asked her Lunine, who had been padding quietly behind them. On his face was a flat look that said, 'what kind of bullshit are you expecting me to pull out of my luxuriously fluffy a**'? "Well you didn't tell me about being able to fly, so I was just checking."
Arezu did a quick mental inventory of her pokemon. Could any of them help with getting out of here? Any of them besides Niji? She was pretty sure the suicune could bullshit his way out, but she didn't feel like dealing with him right now. She'd been hoping Sham had picked up some kind of technique. "Well, I'm not in a huge hurry or anything, but I am starting to get pretty cold." She decided to release Enki and Flurry, her greninja and wispard. "Go scout ahead, see if you can find an exit for this place." Enki nodded, fading into the dark of the tunnel. Flurry paused a moment, shooting a toothy grin at his brother Sham before racing out of sight. "Well, hopefully those two can figure out which way to go for us. I didn't exactly dress for this." A part of her wanted to let out Shiisa, just sink into her warm fur and let the arcanine do all the walking.
Lucario assumed what she was saying is that she had challenged Arezu, her Trainer, in battle to test her. Lucario liked that, it's a good way to get a feel of the Aura the Trainer has. "Did you win?" he asked curiously. It wasn't a relevant question at all he was just if it was victory or defeat that had convinced her to join Arezu.
Traveling with humans is fun, sometimes definitely when you are training and battling. This he believed so he nodded in agreement."I agree it feels heartening to be wanted by your human," he wanted to know if Aria was right "Do you think that it is abnormal to want to focus on training and battling all the time?" he never really got to talk to other Pokemon so he wasn't sure if it was appropriate to ask questions like that or if it was kosher.
So she had figured out how to beat Fighting Type Pokemon with a Steel Type and a Lucario nonetheless Gio thought. This was good news and definitely helped him out. It ment that he might be able to get out of this slump soon. As the old saying goes Iron sharpens iron.

Arezu spoke to a Pokemon Gio had never seen before and she called it Sham. It was a fox like Pokemon with long whiskers and glowed in the dark. The Pokemon was having none of these questions and Arezu said she was just checking with it. He gave a kind of half cocked look over "What kind of Pokemon is that?" he knew it probably wasn't a Steel Type but it didn't change his curiosity any. It wasn't like you just found florescent Pokemon running around every day.
They got further in and Gio saw some kind of shimmer coming from some rocks. As he approached it he realized it was an instrument, more specifically a black flute. He decided to pick it up and put it in his bag for later. He knew they were rare Items and that they were made using volcanic ash that is hand created.

Hikaru huffed when Lucario asked if she won. "Not even close." Even back then, when Arezu had still been a relatively new trainer, Hikaru hadn't stood a chance of winning. Well, back then Hikaru had been a riolu, so it was understandable. "I didn't even know about type advantages," she said ruefully, shaking her head. "I punched one thing just the same as any other. Ghosts became much less threatening, once I learned," she chuckled. When she was younger, she and many of the other riolu had been convinced that ghosts were impossible to fight off. Given how they would all just use their fists and fighting type moves, it made sense.
"Do you think that it is abnormal to want to focus on training and battling all the time?"
Was he talking about her, or himself? She side-eyed him, while she thought, but couldn't tell. Well, Hikaru had certainly heard that more than once from other pokemon when she was younger. She hadn't been quite as obsessive about it since then, but comparing herself to Arezu's other pokemon it was clear she was more focused than most of them. "All the time? Perhaps yes. But..." If she hadn't been like that, she might never have met Arezu. She might not be strong enough to protect her someday. And, it was fun. "...I do not think it is bad." Of course, Hikaru had no idea what level of "all the time" Lucario was asking about.
"What kind of Pokemon is that?"
"A pain in the a**," Arezu responded while making direct eye contact with the lunine. She ducked out of the way of a blue wisp of fire and he sent flying for her face. "He's a lunine. I don't know too much about him, he's...adopted." Well, so was half of her pokemon. Technically, all of them were adopted. "He's actually a dragon, believe it or not." Arezu gestured him forward, and used a hand to part his fur so the pearly green scales beneath could been seen. They matched the ones on his legs, too. Sham used this opportunity to lick Arezu right on the ear. "Augh!! Sham!" Oh got it was so cold ugh she really should have seen that coming. "At least you don't bite me anymore." Sham flashed his pearly whites.
"Hmm? You find something?" Arezu asked, watching Gio pick something up. For a moment she forgot they were in a dream and wondered if there was other stuff to find here, but then she caught herself. "Do you think you can take it with you? You know, when we wake up?"
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the mountain, Skarmory would see the head on a greninja pop suddenly from a seemingly impassable slope of snowy rocks. Enki looked around, spotted Skarmory, stared at her for a few moments, then popped back down to the tunnel below. There was just a small opening into the outside at the end of a small twisting tunnel that he'd found in the ceiling down below. Enki dropped back down into the cave, considering the small hole that led out. He was fairly large, but agile. It took him some careful thinking to determine if the humans would fit through. Finally he nodded his head. Yes, this would do. Satisifed, he flicked a sharp shuriken of water into his hand and marked the entrance with a large X.
Arezu saw Enki walking calmly towards them. "Hey, you found a way out?" Enki nodded and gestured behind him. "Lead the way." She'd have to send Sham out to grab his brother if the wispard didn't return.
Lucario would be lying if he said he wasn't jealous. Not that he wanted to be a wild Pokemon but he had absolutely no memories what so ever of a life before having a Trainer. So he liked to hear about other Pokemon and their experiences before they were caught. "I punched one thing just the same as any other. Ghosts became much less threatening, once I learned," he couldn't remember the last time he had fought a Ghost Type. It had to be around the human holiday known as Halloween. Somehow he had a bad habit of getting separated from his Trainer during events around that day. Most of the time they were uncontrollable or against his will, but Gio always found him. He gave a slight uncharacteristic chuckle "So, you are fearful of Ghosts then?"
So all the time was? But only maybe, and not bad. Hmm he thought "We are Fighting Type Pokemon though don't you think it would be a bit novel for us to not think about fighting?" he placed a paw on his chin and scratched it as if he was thinking.
Arezu described the Pokemon Gio had never seen before as a pain in her a**, before telling him, to his surprise that the Dragon Type was adopted. also that it was, well, a Dragon. He was surprised to see the green scales underneath the fur. "He's a Dragon?" he said quizzically scratching down the side of his face. He hunched over to get a closer look but backed up after the Dragon Type licked Arezu. "He bites, duly noted"
She brought up a valid point, what if there was no way to take outside items with them. Counter point though was that they still had all of their items they came with. "Well I guess we will have to go find a place to use this then" it was a black flute and all he knew was that it was supposed to attract a single Pokemon if he blew in it. If he could capture that one Pokemon in a Poke Ball he brought with himself then surely that would mean that the Pokemon would come back to the real world with them.
Skarmory was staying perched on a rock when she saw a Greninja pop it's head out from between a bunch of rocks layered across the icy slopes. They made eye contact and stared each other down for a moment. Before Skarmory could even react the Water Ninja had disappeared back into the depths. Was it possible that the Pokemon belonged to the female? She knew it wasn't Gio's and thus decided it better to keep waiting just in case.

Hikaru waved that off with a paw. She didn't want him to get confused about that. "No, not particularly. They actually made me frustrated, because no matter how I hit them it never seemed to do anything." That had been scary, in a way, but she considered it healthy to be afraid of something you can't fight. "Now I know how to properly fight them so I don't need to worry." To demonstrate, she pressed a paw against the cave wall. Rock flowed around her fist and up her arm to the elbow. When she pulled back, her forearm was encased in a rocky fist. Yeah, a smack from that wasn't something a ghost could just ignore. Hikaru shook the rocky gauntlet off then rolled her wrist in small circles.
"We are Fighting Type Pokemon though don't you think it would be a bit novel for us to not think about fighting?"
"Hah, I suppose you might have a point. Who knows where humans got their definitions of types, but if 'fire' types embody fire, then perhaps our moniker carries that same weight." It made her wonder how humans had decided to categorize all pokemon. It must have taken a lot of effort to gain all of the knowledge they did. And all of it available inside that little pokedex Arezu carried around with her.
They all followed Enki, and after a while reached the small tunnel leading outside. "Well, looks like it'll work." Arezu recalled Flurry, who had found his way back to the group. It was easier to return everyone to their pokeballs than having them scramble through the exit, but she did leave Hikaru out, since she was talking to Lucario. Then Arezu hopped into the tunnel. She had to stoop a bit, but was able to remain standing. She picked her way up the slight incline, scrambling out onto a rocky slope. "Gah, s'bright out here," she mumbled to herself.
Hikaru hopped out next, squinting like Arezu in the bright sun. She flared her aura-sensing to compensate, and nodded at Skarmory.
"So, what kind of place you want to use that thing in?" Arezu asked as she held out a hand to help Gio out of the hole. Not that he likely needed it or anything. "I'm not really looking to catch any new pokemon," she said, letting him know he could pick where to go. They might need to get an aerial view or go back to the tree to see what else was around this place though. Maybe if Gio thought really hard about what kind of pokemon he wanted to find to use that black flute on, the dream world would bend itself to help out?
Ryuu tried not to complain too much as he cuddled Growlithe against himself in attempts to keep warm against the cold cave. Why were they here again? Jolteon and Squirtle where out of their pokeballs and digesting the story that Ryuu had told them about how he became the young lady Umbra. The conversation was awkward at times between the three of them but his pokemon seemed to be rather understanding of the situation. Squirtle seemed to empathise a lot more seemed to have a new vigor in the goal of helping his master become the man that she once was. Jolteon seemed to be a little more logical about it, he seemed to be a little more pessimistic about the situation and seemed to be encouraging Ryuu to embrace his fate… just in case that there was no way that they could get him back to the way that he was. Growlithe on the other hand was just happy to be held and share some warmth with someone else. Growlithe was a special kind of happy-go-lucky, so long as you didn’t mess with his owner he was very much a ‘live in the moment’ kinda soul. It was kind of refreshing.
”Ugh… why are we in this cave again?” Ryuu sniffed loudly to return a string of snot back into his nose. He hated the cold, he had no idea what sort of misery he had gotten himself into. ”Two reasons: One because Growlithe chased a pokemon in here and two… because we’re currently lost and can’t find our way out.” Ryuu forced a bit of a chuckle as Growlithe licked the bottom of his face in excitement at the idea of an adventure. Oh well, at the very least they might be able to have some pokemon battles, he saw a few of them roaming around so maybe this suffering would be good for something. Heck, some ice type pokemon might be a good thing to have around so that they could back up Jynx. Ryuu paused and looked around for a moment. ”You know there’s something that just feels… off about this place. I noticed it sense I got here but I didn’t think much of it seeing this is a dream but I just can’t shake this feeling.” ”True, there is something very strange about this place, I just can’t put my paw on it though. I guess we will eventually figure things out as we continue on.” Ryuu relaxed a bit at that thought, even in his dreams his pokemon had his back, it made him appreciate them all the more. Ryuu continued to look around and noticed that there were a number of items that were frozen in ice. He made a note to himself and decided to keep an eye open for special items and unique stuff that could help his future team. Eventually the team came across a fork in the cave and Ryuu looked on with some degree of uncertainty. The three of them exchanged looks before turning their attention to the three tunnels once again. ”Well, I guess we have a bit of a dilemma. Any suggestions?” There was an awkward pause of silence before Ryuu sighed but let a chuckle out. ”Alright then, let’s start with the left and see where that takes us. We can’t get any more lost than we already are.” With a decision made the quartet set off to try and find a way out of the forsaken ice hole. Or at the very least they might find some interesting treasure to help them out along their journey.

After a series of twists and turns and hopelessly falling on his a** in rather ungraceful ways, Ryuu and his team found themselves in a larger cavern somewhere deep inside the cave. It was hard to tell how long they had been down there and how deep they were in the caves but what was for certain was that their fortunes seemed to have shifted as a frozen treasure trove was stumbled upon. Ryuu looked around, rather impressed by the crystals and dropped items that had become entombed within a frosted prison. ”Damn… look at this place. I wonder if this is a pokemon’s nest or something? ”It’s possible, a lot of pokemon collect things that humans drop, either out of curiosity or just because they were shiny and the pokemon liked the look of them.” Ryuu grinned and set Growlithe down. ”Let’s split up and see what we can find! There’s gotta be some really useful stuff in this section of the cave after all.” There was a strange feeling of carefree adventure welling up inside of Ryuu, something that hadn’t been there sense he was very young. It was refreshing and almost new to him all over again. Maybe it was the wonder of finding something unexpected or perhaps the thrill of finding something that you’ve wanted for some time. It took little time for Ryuu start pushing snow away in attempts to find something or push some frost away to reveal something that was nesting in the shallow ice. The treasure hunt was on, and he was sharing this moment with his best friends. The moment seemed like it couldn’t quite get any better right now. Spare some hot chocolate at the end of this cold item hunt.
Ryuu shifted through the snow and found something glittering in the light that trickled down into the cave. It took the shape of a green gem and a huge grin spread across his face and he started to work the item out of the cold white stuff… only to find that it was half embedded in the ice. Ryuu gave an exasperated sigh. ”Aww man...” ”What’s wrong?” Jolteon asked, pulling his head up with a pile of snow still resting on his electrically charged fur. ”I found some kind of gem but it’s stuck in the ice. I wonder if I have something that I can use to chip it out?” Ryuu started to rummage through his bag for something that he could use, only to have the rest of his pokeballs open up and three more of his friends came out of their pokeballs. The three new arrivals looked on with some confusion as a strange male was now in control of their pokeballs and half of their cohorts didn’t even seem to mind. Squirtle sensed the confusion and conflict within half of the party and went over to explain things in hushed whispers. Meanwhile, Growlithe bounded over happily to Ryuu with a black flute in his mouth, he approached with his tail wagging so hard that his whole hind area was swaying back and forth with the same momentum. The Growlithe had tried to say something but it came out unintelligible around the item the occupied his mouth. ”Hey, whatcha got there, bud.” Ryuu reached out and grabbed the flute but Growlithe was in no mood to just hand it over, at least not without some play time first! Ryuu found himself lurched forwards and being dragged across the ice with enthusiastic gusto by his fire breathing little friend.
Ryuu yelped in surprise and let go of the flute, only to have his momentum carry himself across the ice and face first into a pile of snow. His lower section was the only thing that remained sticking out of snow drift and after a skidding turn the enthusiastic puppy pokemon was on a collision course to join in on the fun. Ryuu pushed himself up just in time to get a happy puppy pokemon smashing into his side and spraying both human and snow spectacularly far in wide. A deadpan look crossed Ryuu’s face as his eye twitched as he lay their spread out on the ice, looking up at the hole in the ceiling in the aftermath of his pokemons fun. Growlithe pounced and landed on his stomach before dropping the black flute and bombarding his owners face with a flurry of licks. Ryuu tried to stay mad, he really did, but there was better mood lightener than a puppy licking your face. The walk down the snowy path was quiet and soothing, but soon lead to the entrance of a cave. The mouth stretched up high- almost as high as it was wide. Icicles hung about the entrance. Normally such a thing would look menacing to the spectacled male, but some how in this dream world, it seemed more inviting and enchanting. Light twinkled off the translucent surface of the ice as gentle flakes danced down on by. It took Gavyn a moment to tear his eyes from the scenery in order to step inside, curious as to where this journey might lead him. It was strange how everything he saw seemed to tell him it was cold here, yet he barely even felt a chill. He could not even see his breath, though he had tried. Inside the cave, the walls were encrusted with crystalline structures, which he wasn’t sure if they were ice or if they were actual crystals. Even as he travelled further inside the cave, it did not seem to get darker, either. Strange, however he had already accepted that this must be some kind of dream of his own making. The only sounds that could be heard was that of dripping and his own footsteps. There was the occasional sound of shifting rock, as if something simply fell over. In any other situation, such sounds would be enough to startle Gavyn. Yet, he felt strangely at peace with it. Here, there were no computers. No strange devices emitting a strange hum that sometimes pierced his ears. It was just him here, so he also did not have to worry about seeing people wearing what was the new trend in clothing; no short skirts, revealing tank tops, bikinis. This place was secluded enough to keep all of that out and knowing that soothed Gavyn to no end. If Merlin was with him and knew what he was thinking, the clefairy would be sure to have some quips. Perhaps about how boring it was with none of the new and exciting things of this age that they had found themselves tossed into. How Gavyn should live a little and indulge more in what this age had to offer. But really, no matter how Merlin would spin it, Gavyn just could not find it in himself to give in to such pleasures. It was far too overwhelming for him. Gavyn let out a sigh, hanging his head a bit. Was it really so wrong of him to feel so scared of all these new things? His partner had easily adjusted to the times, hopping right into the flow of things. To Merlin, none of it seemed to be a big deal. The brown-haired male felt so unsure of himself. For goodness sake, he could hardly bear to hold a meaningful conversation with other people, even when they were being friendly. He was not sure what could be wrong with him to feel this way. Gavyn lifted his head to look at his surroundings, spotting his reflection in a glass-like wall nearby. His phantom image stared back at him, before both images looked away nervously, stepping out of frame. The brunette moved on away from the glassy wall, further into the cave. Perhaps most of his troubles were caused by his upbringing. It was certainly a lot different from what he had observed in this new time. His life had been so restricted. He had had a duty to his parents and siblings, and to the church. So many things were forbidden, causing him to feel as if he could not act freely. If he made one misstep, there would be punishment and wrath. Merlin had been his escape from that. The clefairy that he had befriended back in that time had tried many times to encourage him to break away from the chains he had been raised in. Alas, Gavyn had always been too scared and weak to try. Yet the pink pokemon still supported him through thick and thin. Even now, Gavyn still found himself unable to take that next step. He had no family tying him down now, so what could possibly still be holding him back? It had to be the beliefs that had been drilled into him. Their grasp on him had deep roots, fed by fear and grown strong. While he questioned if those beliefs had ever really been his own, he could not deny they still held sway over him. Gavyn fidgeted with his sweater, pulling the turtle neck up over his mouth. Just the thought of ever acting on his own desires was enough to cause panic inside him. If it had ever got out how absolutely sinful he really was… it terrified him to think of what could happen. He knew of what would happen to him if he had ever made it known that he prefers to be with other men back in his own time. It was an unacceptable sin. A grave disappointment to his family. Even if there was no punishment in this age, he could not bear to think what others might think of him. Would they see him as filthy? Would they judge him harshly? Whisper about his sins behind his back? These thoughts had tossed Gavyn in a downwards spiral of anxiety, disallowing him to continue to enjoy the peacefulness of this cave made up from his dream. What had been initially soothing to him was more like a hollow echo, tormenting his very soul. The drops whispered as if supporting the thought of people talking about him. A muffled sound escaped Gavyn’s lips as he turned around to head back out of the cave. As he quickly walked past the icy wall, he swore he could see his reflection mocking him. He made for the exit, feeling almost as if the beautiful crystals had started to now maliciously point at him along the way. Until finally, he escaped the mouth of the cave, stumbling out into the snow and leaning against a tree to catch his breath.

The fun had finally reached a close, more and more of Ryuu’s pokemon had come in to join the fray and wrestled their human into a playful submission. Only the serious Jolteon -who still looked on with some level of amusement and Jynx were the only ones who stayed out of the way and let the others play among themselves. Jolteon’s lips twitched up a bit as he saw his owner actually acting carefree for once, they hadn’t known each other for very long but in all that time Jolteon had seen very little of this playful side of his human companion. It was rather nice to see the usually tough as nails and quick tempered human’s shell crack away a bit to show glimpses of a humanity that he was usually hesitant to show others. Jolteon tilted his head to the side slightly to see Jynx look unusually aloof, after he and Squirtle explained the situation to the others the Ice type pokemon had become rather distant and lost in her own thoughts about something. Perhaps the situation regarding her human was a bit much for her to take in and she needed some time and distance to properly assess the situation. Nidoran and Hitmonlee were actually rather sympathetic to their humans cause which surprised Jolteon. Not so much Nidoran as she seemed to be the type that could get along with everyone but rather Hitmonlee who he would have guessed would have been more distant about the situation like Jynx seemed to be. He supposed that in the end, because Growlithe and Hitmonlee had only recently joined their party that he really didn’t have any sort of feelings one way or another about the human. Perhaps that freshness was what helped him come to an immediate understanding, or perhaps Hitmonlee was like Jolteon in this regard and he saw the situation as something that was out of the human’s control. Regardless of what the new party members mind and motivation was, he was happy that their human at least had some more support in their journey and one more friend to rely upon.
”Alright! Alright… I give up! I surrender, you all have won the day.” Ryuu gasped between laughter, the surrender had been enough for his pokemon to back down. Ryuu pushed down the last of his laughter and reached over and ruffled Growlithes mane, causing the pokemon to lean into the attention. ”Okay then, what was that little flute that Growlithe brought over?” Hitmonlee looked around and found the black flute that had an unfortunate amount of drool over it. He went over and bravely picked it up and brought it over to Ryuu. ”It’s a Black Flute Sensei, when you play it with the sounds of the cry of a specific pokemon, that pokemon will come.” ”You play the cry of any pokemon and they appear?” ”Well, you don’t have to play the exact cry and it has to be a pokemon that’s native to the area. As long as the pokemon song is close enough to a cry and the pokemon is in the area then you should get a pokemon that you want.” ”Damn, that is handy! Where was that when I was looking for… that… pokemon?” ”A word of warning though, Sensei, the black flute is very fragile and once you play it, it is likely to break.” Ryuu looked at the flute and thoughts filled his head, he closed his eyes for a few moments before he looked up at Hitmonlee and nodded in understanding. ”Alright then, let’s keep an eye open for these on our journey. Once we finish building up my themed back up team we’ll head out and start collecting badges.” The rest of the pokemon seemed rather happy with this and nodded firmly. It was too bad this was only a dream. Ryuu was having fun and actually feeling rather optimistic about things, with the burden of getting his old self back gone he could finally focus on just… having fun and making his mark on the world. ”Well then, with that out of the way. I need your help in getting stuff out of the ice, Growlithe, I need to borrow that fire power of yours. Let’s keep looking for more stuff for our journey too, this place has a lot of things that we could take advantage of.”

It took some trying and a some creativity but Ryuu and Growlithe were finally able to pull those strange crystals out of the ice. There was something strange about them, something that he doubted that he himself could use but knew that he would find a use for eventually. He placed the Grass Gems in his bag for safe keeping and scratched Growlithe furiously on the haunches for all his good work. The puppy pokemon’s tail wagged violently back and forth and he practically melted into a furry little puddle at the gesture. Ryuu chuckled and looked around at his pokemon who were both in various states of play and also looking for - or trying to unearth- various things that they found frozen in the ice. He placed his hands on his hips and looked down as Squirtle came over and offered him another found treasure. A handful of berries this time, Ryuu raised his eyebrow with a smile and knelt down to his starter pokemon’s level. ”What did you find, Blue?” Ryuu offered his open palm so the Squirtle could have his arms free once again. ”I found five Sitrus Berries! Those should come in handy, right?” Ryuu’s face softened. ”I’ll say, that was a damn good find Blue. I’ll plant ‘em in the berry capsules as soon as we get out of here and we’ll grow a bunch of them. How does that sound to you?” Squirtles face and eyes lit up and Ryuu could practically hear the rumbling in his pokemon’s belly at the thought of lots of berries to eat. Ryuu grinned and patted Squirtle on the head. ”Boy if we keep this up then we’ll have a full bag of goodies for sure.”
Jolteon snorted in frustration as once more his head poked out of a snow bank, his ears were bent back and snow once more graced the top of his head and around his snout. ”I have located another black flute however… I am unable to reach it from the thickness of the ice.” ”Oh boy! I’ll help!” Growlithe rampaged over in his excitement and smashed his way through the pile of snow, nearly sending Jolteon flying through the air in the process. If looks could have killed then Growlithe would have left the room in a casket, but the puppy pokemon was oblivious to the non verbal scolding of electric type pokemon and and went about his play time challenge of getting that flute out for Jolteon. Jolteon just sighed and shook the snow off of his person and trotted over to Ryuu and sat at his feet. ”His enthusiasm is… something else, isn’t it?” Jolteon mused while tilting his head to the side as if to try and see things from another angle. ”That should serve the team well in the future if he can temper it a bit more when he gets older.” ”I’m sure he’ll grow out of his puppy phase eventually. I’m just grateful that we were able to get a fire type so soon. He will be a great counter to the types that a few of the others are weak too.” Jolteon looked up at his master. ”You seem to have a vision for the team, may I ask what that vision is? For someone so young you take your pokemon very seriously.” Perhaps a little too much so, but Jolteon would save those thoughts for another time should they get the chance to communicate with each other again. ”Honestly… I didn’t have much of a vision to be honest. I built the team more or less around you as you were my first pokemon. I just wanted to make sure that everyone had their weaknesses covered and could take on a wide variety of pokemon.” Ryuu looked down. ”My team doesn’t have to be invincible. Hell, there may be a lot of challenges that we’re going to have a lot of troubles with. So my goal was just to set up everyone as much as I could so we could all look out for each other and use teamwork to overcome as much as possible. I don’t expect any one pokemon to be able to take on everything. But if we work as a well oiled machine we could go a lot further than we might think imaginable.”
Jolteon seemed rather pleased with his master and the answer, and a few pokemon had stopped to listen to the conversation as well. Jolteon closed his eyes and bowed his head slightly. ”Then… I shall just have to do my part for the team. I’m also honoured that you chose to base things around me as well. I will protect those who are weak to what I am strong against, and I trust that they will do the same for me.” There were a lot of nods and thumbs up from the gathered group and once more, Ryuu’s face softened. He was grateful that his pokemon seemed to understand his train of thought with the team and how he structured and built it, even if it was just a dream and his pokemon may never understand in the waking world. ”Hey Jolteon! I got out! I got it out! Do you want to give it to the master seeing as you found it?” ”Ah, please. Thanks for helping, Growlithe just… don’t expect the same level of physical praise from me as Umbra.” ”Aww… why not?” ”Because that’s Umbra’s contribution to the team. That and I don’t have any hands.” Jolteon trotted over and lowered himself into the whole where he collected the black flute and brought it over to Ryuu. Even Jolteon had to admit that even someone as excitable and hyper as Growlithe had his uses. Once he got stronger though, Jolteon knew he would take Ryuu far with his goals. His comrades, despite their quirks and differences were a good group of people and he trusted that his human picked them specifically for a reason. All that was left to do was for everyone to get stronger - together.

Ryuu was continuing to dig and push through snow in order to find more stuff but something was continuously tugging on the back of his mind. That black flute that was nestled in his bag was starting to get him a little curious and he wondered how it would work. It was explained to him and that part of it made sense, but he wasn’t sure how it was supposed to work. ”Hey, Hitmonlee? Could I ask you more about those black flutes? I understand what you said but something just isn’t clicking with me about it.” Hitmonlee straightened up and walked over to Ryuu. ”Here, Sensei, let me demonstrate, perhaps it will help you make sense of what is going on with the flute.” The flute was brought up and Hitmonlee started to play the flute, he randomly thought of a pokemon cry that he had heard from the depths of the cave while they were searching and added a few harmonious beats to it before it crumbled into fragments. ”... how did you play that flute when you don’t even have a mouth?!” Hitmonlee gave Ryuu an amused look, but before anything could be said a cry that mimicked that which was played on the flute came into the cavern.

”That’s an interesting Vulpix, I wonder if it’s a shiny? Alright Growlithe, let’s capture this pokemon! Go easy on it with an Ember.” Growlithe bounded over to the pair, placing himself in between the pokemon and his master. Growlithe growled and snarled, barking at Vulpix to try and intimidate the pokemon. Vulpix hissed and its hackles raised in response.

Much to Ryuu surprise, the Vulpix started off with an Ice attack, strange for a fire type pokemon… this pokemon must have been rather special indeed if it could do that.

Ryuu was puzzled, he ran through what was going on in his head. It was almost as though things were reversed here. Growlithe’s intimidate ability seemed to only make the pokemon stronger and the fire type did nothing against an ice type. ”It’s almost like… and Inverse battle.” Was that what as going on? Ryuu had heard of the Inverse battle before but this was the first time he actually participated in one. Still, there was something off even if he applied those rules from what he understood of them. He paused and went with his hunch to see what was going on. ”Growlithe, come back. Jynx, you’re up.” Jynx seemed hesitant but Ryuu ignored it and sent her out anyway. Jynx squared off against the strangely colored Vulpix.
”Jynx, use Ice punch.” Jynx gave her master a dark, strange look. ”Trust me on this on. I think I know what’s going on here.” He tried to sound confident but even he didn’t seem very sure about what his orders were.
Jynx gathered her Ice power around her fist and wound up before smashing the poor Vulpix in the face and sending it flying over to the other side of the cave. Poor Vulpix didn’t stand a bloody chance. Ryuu grimaced at the aftermath of that attack and felt rather sorry for the little Vulpix. [Jynx used Ice Punch, it’s super effective! 75 x 2 = 150 damage to Vulpix] [Vulpix fainted]
Ryuu pulled out a pokeball and tried his luck, he knew that he was in a dream but… why not? He was a pokemon trainer after all and a Shiny pokemon that had an ice move was going to be a fun addition to the team. The pokeball flew through the air and landed on the Alola version of the pokemon: The pokeball twitched once. Twice. Three times and clicked shut.
Ryuu went over and collected the pokemon that he just caught. ”Man, this dream is really weird. But hey, got Vulpix.” It seemed that there was still a lot of mystery within this place. For a dream, this was really intense and felt so real, was this really a dream or was this some sort of strange alternate reality? ”Geez, come here Growlithe lets get you healed up.” Growlithe trotted over to him, his mood had soured greatly and Ryuu couldn’t blame him for it. Ryuu was rummaging through his bag when a strange ball of light suddenly appeared and a little Nurse Joy with wings fluttered down towards Growlithe and the pokeball that held the less than awake Vulpix. With a flick of a little wand wounds had closed and pokemon were totally refreshed. To say that Ryuu was baffled was a bit of an understatement. He watched as the little Nurse fairy ascended upwards again. ”Uh… thanks a lot?” Yup, this was a dream, a very, very weird dream.
