The path opens up before you, and you are met with a steep, rocky incline . The trees are sparse here, making the sky look clearer somehow. Hopefully you are up for a hike, because the many trails going up the mountain offer various challenges of endurance and strength.
There are more hardy types of pokemon on this mountain. You can see fire, fighting, steel, and dragon types roaming about. They'll leave you alone so long as you don't encroach upon their territory. Just be careful not to step on anyone's tail.

5 rp posts are required, then generate a number between 1 and 42. This will determine the Pokemon that appears. All encountered pokemon will match the average level of your active party.
EXP is quantified by the number of words in your post. For every 100 words you write, each active party pokemon gets 1 EXP, so at 200 words, each active party member gets 2 EXP, at 300 words, 3 EXP, and so on. This stops after 1000 words, i.e. the max EXP you can get per pokemon per post is 10 without any exp bonuses. Posts can have more than 1000 words in them, however the word limit for bonus EXP is 1000. The word count doesn't round up, so if you have 199 words, it's still only 1 exp per pokemon, not 2. Please note how many words are in your post somewhere in your post. The word count does not include coding and layout, only the words in your RP posts.
Pokemon, NPCs, and Items:
All wild pokemon are encountered in the Dream World by spending Pokemon Encounter Post Points, and they will match the average level of your active party. You ARE allowed to capture pokemon in the Dream World. Any pokemon caught in the Dream World can stay with your trainer while they travel around the Dream World, but will be mysteriously transported to your trainer's PC when they wake up. The pokemon encountered in the Dream World are usually only available in select areas of the guild, so use this as an opportunity to catch your favorite pokemon or fill up your pokedex!
You may also battle NPCs in the Dream World, as other trainers will be getting thrown into the realm as well. Their maximum combined team level will be equal to 4 times your active party's average level.
Battle Changes:
-All Battles will be Inverse Battles -Obedience Rules do not apply -Lower level pokemon will move first -Status altering moves will work in reverse, as if the pokemon using it has the ability Contrary. For pokemon who actually have the ability Contrary, status altering moves work normally.

Julie was ready to keep making faces at Esben -- she was an expert at this, she could do it all day -- but suddenly.... he seemed confused about a potato. A POTATO. Julie's eyes popped open and her jaw dropped as she stared at him with the level of outright shock only a child could manage. "You don't know about POTATOES?!" she exclaimed, absolutely flabbergasted. "But POTATOES! But Esben I'm not makin' them up they're POTATOES! How have you never had potatoes a'fore!? They're so good! You can bake 'em or smash 'em or cut 'em up they're so good Esben!" Truly, she was taking on the roll of Ambassador of Potatoes. She couldn't believe he'd never had them! He was at least her age maybe even older, right? So... potatoes!
She scrunched up her face as he seemed to scoff and dismiss her, and smacked his hand when he reached up and poked her forehead. "I'ma be a SMART fighter, then! I'ma be both!" she declared boastfully, and for good measure, she took in all her breath, squared her shoulders, puffed up her chest, and raised her arms by her sides with her hands clenched into fists and her little arms bent down to try and make muscles like a machoke posing for a muscle contest. "InfactI'mastartnowRACEYOUTOTHEMOUNTAIN!" she added in a fast exhale of her breath, before promptly bolting to the mountain. "And my sheep mareep is totally brave too!"
As the two ran, her arms pumping by her sides as she tried to out race Esben, the mountain drew closer. Children had too much energy.... If there were any people around, she didn't even notice, too focused on trying to beat Esben. It was hard though.... He was kinda fast, even with all that clunky clothing on. "Hey Esben look! Bet I can climb rocks faster!" she quickly declared, darting off the path just as they were started up the mountain, and skidding to a stop. There was a clear, albeit rocky and steep, path, but Julie scrambled off it to get to a more rocky upclimb and stared challenging up at it. It wasn't totally vertical.... just, it wasn't exactly a path.
"C'mon!" She wasn't really even paying attention if Esben had kept running, or followed her over, and started trying to climb her way up the rocks, not caring too much that she was in shorts, which probably weren't the best for this kind of sport. Oh well! Skinned knees were part of the ADVENTURE!

Esben just made a confused face as Julie practically exploded about his lack of knowledge over what potatoes were. She didn’t explain what they were at any point during her spiel, just letting him know that potatoes were potatoes and that it was some kind of crime against humanity for him not to know what they were. He titled his head back some, placing a finger to his chin.
"So they’re… a food?" That was the only thing that he had mildly picked up from her proclamations, along with the fact that they could be baked, smashed and cut. Which meant that they clearly weren’t some kind of tool or weapon. Unless you could smash and cut with them, in which case that would definitely count as a weapon. There wasn’t much of a chance to get any further information out about what a potato was and how it was used or even where to find them.
Esben scoffed again. "You don’ even know how to fight! How are you gonna be a smart fighter, huh?" He retorted back. If he had been a slightly older and mature child (which technically he could pretend to be being thousands of years old probably) then he might’ve found Julie’s attitude endearing. But he didn’t! Because he himself was a child and she knew nothing about the fighting world and he would totally prove her wrong! How? He didn’t know for sure, but he would find a way!
And then they took off running and, at that moment, his competitive spunk kicked in. He put his all into outpacing Julie as they ran, benefiting slightly from his slightly taller form and age. Plus, he’d done a lot of running! There wasn’t much else to do when you were living in the village after all. And he made sure to train every day so that he would grow up to be big and strong! That didn’t prevent him from being just a tad bit winded once they reached the mountains, but he was determined not to let it show.
"H-hey! No fair!" He cried when she started up the mountain, immediately giving chase up as well. The young Viking still had the energy for it, but he was stalled just a bit for air. He managed to catch up to the edge, looking up as she began to scramble up the rocky face. "You don’ know how to climb rocks!" He shouted, as though the fact that she was already doing so wasn’t evidence that she did in fact, know how to climb rocks. The child took a glance around and found himself a spot that he could start climbing and started his way up as well.
"Where are you even going? Our pokemon can’t climb!" He shouted after her. At least he didn’t think they could. Flef certainly couldn’t, he didn’t have arms. The bears? He wasn’t so sure, but they seemed just a tad bit on the tiny side for it. And Teeg? Well. He didn’t know but he had a good belief that a pokemon that needed all four legs to the ground wasn’t going to be climbing any time soon.

Julie nodded her head vigorously. Potatoes were a food-- one of the best foods! She would have to show them to him when they got out of here or... found a restaurant! Were there restaurants here?? She'd have to keep an eye out. In the meantime, though, she had so much to prove to Esben. "I do too! I CAN FIGHT ESBEN I CAN TOTALLY FIGHT!" she tried to shout as they began racing towards the mountain. It didn't help her in her attempts to keep up, though, but thankfully, they were children, and diverting the attention to something else was totally like winning. And not at all like giving up. Or trying to change the subject when you realize you're losing an argument.
SO YEAH, ROCK CLIMBING.
"Is too fair! C'mon Esben!" she called, scrabbling up the rocks like a monkey. She turned and stuck her tongue down at him. "I do tooooo! That's why I'm higher up than you!" she shouted back, grabbing some dust off a rock and throwing it down at him. There... wasn't much, given it was pretty solid stone, so it was hardly even enough to be an inconvenience unless he stared right at it. And it was in childish playfulness, not spite, so there wasn't even really force, either. Nevertheless, she slipped a bit as she did, and gasped, but quickly grabbed back onto the rock, and, panting a bit, climbed her way onto a ledge. The path was still just.... maybe two feet to the side. They were in no danger. But, apparently, she was determined to make this difficult for the both of them. "Ppbbbbttt! Maybe YOUR pokies can't climb!" she declared, pushing herself to her feet on the small bit of level rock, "But mine definitely can! And 'sides, we dunno where they went! We can.... we can get a better look from up here!"Two feet from the path. Yeah, this... wasn't Julie's brightest moment, but she was having a lot of fun! Running around like this, arguing with Esben, totally beating him-- it was getting her mind off certain things. Like, her brothers disappearance, or the fact that last they were actually awake, they were in a dark, damp house, surrounded by ghosts, in the middle of an emptying swamp....
Besides, honestly it had been a while since she got to play with another kid. Even before she and her brother started this little adventure, she hadn't had a whole lot of friends around to play with. And Esben was fun! Even if he was kinda weird. "Hehe c'mon Esben, hurry up!" she teased, starting up some of the rocks again. Let's ignore that she had a head start, and was definitely slowing down a bit as she tried to essentially crawl her way up. She had to stop shortly after, finding another place to sit, this time a little less sturdy as the rock simply offered a slope, rather than a ledge, and took a moment to brush off her scraped knees and wait for Esben. "How far d'ya think they got?" she asked curiously, looking over at the boy, and giving the two of them a break-- well, assuming Esben didn't just take the challenge and keep going.

"NUH YOU DON’T!" He shouted back in defiance, chest, and cheeks puffing out. "NOT AS WELL AS I CAN!" Esben was the ultimate soon-to-be warrior around here! He was supposed to be training her to be a dragon slayer! How was that supposed to happen if she was already proclaiming that she knew what to do?! It was a good thing they were rushing so quickly towards the mountains or he would’ve taken the time to argue scold her for her lack of true focus.
"It is not!" It certainly didn’t seem fair in his young mind. She was totally up to no good trying to prove herself in non-warrior ways! He followed after her and turned red in the face when she stuck her tongue at him. He returned the favor, sticking his own tongue out at her as fiercely as he could to try and do that. "Well not for long!" He announced and tried to scramble faster.
"Hey!" Esben snapped, shielding his eyes as she chucked dust at him. That was just downright rude! "Cheater!" He huffed and looked about ready to try and grab something to chuck at her when he heard her gasp. What? Looking back up, he missed Julie having to catch herself from nearly slipping, instead of seeing as she scrambled up to a nearby ledge. He followed suit in joining her there, having not been too far and narrowed a look at her.
"They can too!" He snapped back and stomped a foot for good measure. His bears were the toughest ever! "My pokies are some of the toughest bears in my clan! They’re strong and can do ANYTHING!" Esben really needed to calm down or there was going to be trouble. He wished he had his bears around now or even Flef. Not to maybe cuddle the fluffy thing, no sir, but simply to prove in this moment that his pokemon could totally deal with anything!
"But there’s nothin’ but rocks up here Julie! How are you gonna find them in the rocks?" Not that he was trying all that hard to look for his pokemon at this point either. No, he was busy trying to keep up and beat the girl because that was what he wanted to do, being the best warrior ever. When she started up the rocky face again he immediately followed; head start or not he was going to show that he was the best! Soon Julie was resting and Esben only paused to hear her question and then pointed up towards the top of the mountain.
"I dunno, probably the top! It’s the highest place to look from!" He dropped his hands and stuck his tongue at her again. He was, in fact, going to take advantage of her break to get some kind of a lead this time. He’d show her! "So I’ll find them while you take a nap! ‘Cause that’s what a warrior does!" He could’ve moved to the path just to make it easier, but that would’ve been too smart. He wanted to show he was totally a better climber! And if he nearly went rolling back down the mountain from a misstep? Well, that was a thing that probably deserved to happen.

Julie would just have to show Esben she could also be a warrior, obviously. That being said, she also knew she wasn't as much of one as he was. That ALSO being said... she could definitely out rock climb him, she was sure of it. As she sat and recovered, huffing and puffing a bit as she caught her breath and debated which arguments to continue now that they were taking a break, Esben stomped his feet and continued to boast. She scrunched up her face at him and reached over, poking his leg. "Then why'dja say they COULDN'T, Esben? Huuuuh???" she prodded, continuing to poke him a bit more. She drew her hand back and huffed, puffing out her cheeks some and trying to hold her breath to get it level, because that was definitely how you properly oxygenated yourself.
Like the adult she was, her retort was once again, sticking out her tongue to his question. "I'm not gonna find 'em IN the rocks, Esben! I'll find 'em atop 'em!" she proclaimed. She gave up arguing pretty much immediately, though, and went back to trying to catch her breath. She was ALMOST THERE. At least, in.... catching her breath. She wasn't really sure how far it was to the top. Though, on that note, Esben seemed to think that was where their pokemon were, and she twisted around to look up, keeping a hand firmly on the rocks so as not to slip (again).
"I dunno..." she started thoughtfully, but blinked when he decided to go on ahead. Her jaw dropped and her mouth opened in a small "o" of surprise, before she scrambled around to try and get back on her feet, too. "I'm not takin' a nap! Yer takin' a nap! I'm still gonna beat you there, Esben!" she decided, and, like a monkey, began scrambling up the rocks. This was not at all even slightly safe, what the hell. Maybe that was why the dreamworld decided to take mercy, sort of. As Julie started trying to recklessly climb the mountain side and catch up with Esben, a shout from above caught her attention, and her head jerked up.
"Korita!" Julie beamed. "Chico! Hiiii!" she called, slowing a bit, and getting a bit of a better grip as she smiled up at her starter pokemon, who was staring worriedly down at her. "Are the other pokies with yooouu?? Hold on we're comin' up!" She focused back on her climbing, though the rocks were honestly kinda steep. Chico wasn't too far up, though, and it looked like he was on another ledge. Maybe they could get a good view from there??

Esben made a face at Julie’s retort, first confusion and then downright annoyance. That was absolutely not what he’d meant and she totally knew it! Why’d she have to go and try to make everything difficult? That wasn’t what a real warrior did and he would totally show her how wrong she was on EVERYTHING. "Oh yeah? What if they fell between the rocks, huh? They’re really big and your pokemon are really small!" Ha! He felt a bit triumphant in his observation. Now how was she going to beat that? Sure, if her pokemon hadn’t slipped or anything, she’d certainly find them on top of the rocks but if they had well then he’d totally be in the right as well!
With that winger of winning observation thrown out there like it meant something, Esben continued his climb up the rocky cliff hill face thing, determined to get to the top before Julie. "Yeah you will!" He called back, glancing back as she tried to scramble up the rock face, sticking his tongue at her. "A warrior doesn’t need a nap! They know how ta use their power!" That was the correct term for energy right? Or something along those lines. In the end, what it meant was that he was totally going to show her a thing or two in regards to his skill at climbing a mountain!
He was distracted though at the sound of a “Korita” from above, turning his attention there to see Julie’s bean of a grass pokemon. Oh! It was here? "Hey!" Esben called, quickening his speed up the rocky terrain. It was a really fortunate thing that he was dressed in suck sturdy clothing or his hands would’ve definitely been worn raw at this point. He managed finally to make it to the ledge where Chico was, panting and gasping for some air. Taking a deep breath he snapped his attention around, looking for any others. There appeared only to be the Chikorita much to his dismay, though he did notice what appeared to be a small cavern entrance into the side of the mountain. A cave? Perhaps the others and his own team were hiding in there?
"Hey leafy, where’s my pokemon? Are they in there?" He didn’t really wait to get a response, since he didn’t exactly speak pokemon or anything, instead of heading over to the opening to peer into the darkness. It was really hard to see and even with some squinting and the bits of the sun behind him, it was hard to tell where it went and what was in it. He’d need another torch definitely. It only they hadn’t left that other one at home!

Julie scrunched up her face hard at Esben. "Esben, Tria's like six of your li'l pokies!" she shouted back, stamping a foot as best she could on the rocky incline, without sending herself falling down. "And asides, the others are like the same size! My sheep mareep's no rattata!" she boasted back, as if that made any degree of sense. As if any pokemon, in terms of size or literally anything else, made any degree of sense. As if she could not have just said her ''mareep' because lord she had two of them for some reason. But.... children will logic as they logic, which is to say, little to not at all.
Julie's face turned a bit red in embarrassment and childish anger at Esben's boast and claim over naps. She hadn't napped! 'N she wasn't gonna, neither! Jeez! Didn't he ever stop going on about warriors and stuff? She huffed, and just tried to climb faster to catch up and beat him, but that competitive streak quickly zipped right out the window at a familiar call. She beamed, and continued climbing, though admittedly, she still didn't get there till a bit after Esben. Even so, when she did, she giggled as Chico's vines wrapped around her to help her over the ledge, and she threw her arms around her starters neck. "Chico..." the pokemon muttered, looking at her worriedly. He then looked over at Esben, his vines retracting from his trainer, and his expression hardening a bit. "Rita!" he chirped back, but sighed when Esben went off anyway. Julie, meanwhile, pulled off from her pokemon and puffed out her cheeks after the boy. "HIs name is 'Chico', Esben!" she called, climbing to her feet and hurrying to run after him, "S'not 'leafy'!" She slowed as she reached him, looking around and trying to peer into the cave. "D'you think our pokies are in there?" she asked, then cupped her hands, and shouted in, "Trrriiiaaaa! Sheep mareep! Are you guys in there???"

Esben went just a wee bit red at that comment. "S-so?! They’re all going to be bigger than her someday! You just wait!" How dare Julie pretty much insult the size of his pokemon! Sure they… there were tiny, but they’d be big and strong someday! They’d be pokemon fit for a Viking warrior, just like him! He was tiny too after all and his sister had told him he would most definitely sprout up like a weed stock once the time came.
"Ppffff Rattata are huge! I don’ know what yer talking about!" He snapped back. Those things were ginormous where he came from! Assuming he was thinking of the right pokemon… that was the round brown one with the massive teeth, right? No matter, he was not here to discuss whether he was picturing the right pokemon or not. He was here at this point to prove Julie completely wrong about all the random assumptions she was making. Because it wasn’t like he was making much sense as well but that wasn’t the point.
Esben rolled his eyes, diverting his attention from the cave entrance to look back at Julie and her starter. "Fine the leafy’s name is Chici!" He commented, too distracted to actually notice that he had gotten the name wrong. Or rather he realized he got it wrong, but only because he couldn’t help but think the name sounded to close to ‘chicken’. That wasn’t a chicken.
"I… don’t know," the boy commented, the uncertainty unfortunately obvious in his voice. Admittedly, there had been very few times in his young life that he’d been separated from his pokemon; and even the times he had been, they usually found him, or he found them before either even noticed. He wasn’t about to show fear though especially after all the boasting and trouble he’d given Julie up until this point. "But I’ma find them!" Esben stated. He moved passed Julie while she shouted for her own teammates, beginning his brave trek into the cave, squinting against the darkness the best he could.
There were trickles of light managing to sneak in from cracks and holes up above but that was hardly enough to really give him a detailed look of his surroundings. "BYR! ISSSII! WHERE ARE YOU?" Esben called, continuing through listening as his voice echoed off the walls. It was a bit chilly and he could feel goosebumps starting to form on the bare skin of his arms. Oof. He could really use Flef right now… for. Holding. Not warmth. He was a Viking dangit! A distant tiny roar caught his attention and immediately the boy perked up. Was that…
"BYR!" He shouted again, voice echoing once more followed by the distant roar and a cacophony of other noises as well. Was that his team? They were close by! "I’m coming, hold on!" And immediately Esben took off trying to run on what he soon found to be a rather slippery stone floor. That didn’t matter, he’d save his pokemon, danger be damned!

Julie scrunched up her face. "I dunno 'bout that Esby!" she shot back, though, she didn't seem to be quite as argumentative about it. She was at least smart enough to know that pokemon evolved, and sometimes, that meant them getting really big! Esben's were so cute, thoguh, she kinda hoped they didn't. And not just because then Tria would continue to lord over them. She blinked hard, several times, when Esben claimed Rattata were huge. "... NO they aren't, Esben!" she protested, though she looked equally confused on why he was even making such a claim. Was he just in deniable?
"ChiCO!" Julie corrected, exasperated as she climbed to her feet and ran after him. She looked curiously around the dark cave as she waited for his answer, before looking back at him curiously, and raising her eyebrows at his determination. "I'll help!" she decided, turning and running in with him. She had been about to do that anyway, so... good thing she let him take the lead! She looked around while he shouted, listening, and turned when she thought she heard.... something? Chico was following very close at her heels, looking suspicious and wary of everything around them, but looked up ahead in concern when he heard the shouts. Were the other pokemon in danger...? And were his other teammates with them?
Honestly, this place confused him. Last he remembered, they'd been in some sort of haunted house.... and Julie and Esben had been knocked unconscious by some pokemon. Had he been next...? Were they sent here? Or was he just missing some of his memory?
"Esby what if it's a trap?" Julie warned, more with childish wonderment and imagination, than honest concern. They were like explorers in here! And explorers always faced potentially deadly traps! She hurried to catch up with Esben and latched onto his arm, trying to dig her heels in to slow him down, at least for a moment. "We gotta be careful, Esby! Especially since we only got Chico here!" she reminded, before lowering her voice carefully, "There could be wild pokemon just waiting to attack! Like in the haunted house thing we were in!" She looked down, her gaze catching the slick floors appearance. "'Sides, we don' wanna fall..." she added, pulling her hands back to look at the scraps already covering her hands and knees. SHe wasn't scared, and they didn't hurt! But they should still be CAUTIOUS! I's what Torin woulda suggested.

Esben gave Julie a bit of a mixed look of annoyance and combativeness. He was ready to maybe throw down some more totally harsh facts about how his pokemon would one day be looming over the lot of hers, but that quickly faded into a confused expression at the use of a nickname.
"Wha’ did you call me?" Esby? That wasn’t his name. Of course like a proper child, his attention shifted to what mattered, which was the quality argument on the actual size of a Rattata. He huffed and stuck his tongue at her. "Yes they are! They’re huge!" And just to show her he stretched his arms out at his sides as far as they would go, spreading his fingers to get in some added distance.
"They’re like this big where I’m from! They’re huge!" He absolutely in no way was exaggerating this fact nor confusing his pokemon. That being said, he was absolutely confident that there was something rat-like out there that was almost half his size, which was basically huge. "I’ll find one and show you! You’ll see!"
"Yeh yeh, Chici." He mumbled, swatting a hand in her direction, he knew what he was saying and he was saying it right. Esben did give her a look when she announced that she’d help him in the finding of their lost pokemon before taking the lead. Well good! Least she wasn’t afraid of a weird cave. Because it was definitely a weird cave. A bit of calling and some noises and the boy had immediately received sounds that seemed like his pokemon. He was ready to go rushing in only to be stopped by Julie’s questions and the nickname again. "Stop calling me that!" He snapped lightly, giving her a look before considering the rest of the question. "A trap?" His face scrunched up in disbelief at the idea. "No way! It’s a cave Julie there’s no traps in caves!"
"I ain’ scared of wild pokies! I can punch them if I have’ta!" He announced loudly, trying to wiggle his arm free. "YOU HEAR THAT WILD POKIES? I AIN’ AFRAID OF YOU!" He shouted again. Because nothing said smart like alerting any danger to where you happened to be. His voice echoed repeatedly, much longer than previous shouts. It even muffled out the sounds of tiny roars and what he soon perceived to be chirping. And then a looming jagged like shadow appeared just ahead, disappearing into a passageway just outside their vision; he could’ve sworn he heard the sound of flapping too! It was familiar. It was…
"Dragons!" He stated in a hushed tone and immediately pulled Julie back towards the wall, gaze narrowing as he reached for his axe. "My bears are fightin’ dragons! We gotta help them!" Esben wasn’ about to let his bears get eaten by some filthy dragon beasts! "You can stay here if you want, but I’m goin’ in! They need my help!" And with that he managed to break her hold, tugging out his axe and giving a loud shout of his own before running and trying to follow his way to the passage. Today, dragons would be slain!

Julie scrunched her face up in avid determination as Esben continued to make his claims. "They are not, Esbeen! I'ma catch one too 'n show you!" she decided back, stamping her foot. She crossed her arms over her chest. "I dunno where you're from but it's wrong!" she also decided, giving a decided nod of her head. Because yes this was definitely the subject that was worth truly investing herself in, and arguing through till the end. And she was determined now, too. She was getting a rattata. She was getting one and she was gonna have it bite Esben's shoes. Because that would definitely prove her right, and give him what he deserved for daring to doubt her. She knew pokemon!
Julie puffed up both of her cheeks when Esben continued to call Chico, Chici, and didn't seem to listen or care at all at her correction. Her eyes stared hard at him, before she popped her cheeks with a hard exhale and just pressed her lips into a thin line. She probably would have tackled them, had A] they not been on a very rocky mountain side, and B] he not gone to investigate the cave, and distracted her with the idea of finding his pokemon. She stuck out her tongue at him when he snapped at her for using a nickname. She was not going to stop. "Caves have all the traps, Esby! Slippery slidy rocks, sharp rocks, heavy rocks, rolling rocks! They're all TRAPS!" she exclaimed as if this were obvious. Hadn't he ever watched The Movies!?! .... Then again Esben didn't seem to know a lot of things.... maybe he really hadn't seen any of The Movies.
She looked dubious at his claim, but looked out at both his echoes, and the following sounds, her eyes going wide. She gasped and stumbled a bit, but followed to the side of the cave, peering down curiously. She didn't see any signs of flickering flames... so no sign of Tria, then. She deflated some, but looked at her companion in surprise when he claimed there were dragons. "Huh? Are you sure it's not a zuubwat?" she asked, then narrowed her eyes a bit. Was that what they were called? It didn't sound right.... She'd mostly read the name. She blinked and looked up as Esben ran off, panicking a bit and going to sprint after, waving her hands.
"Don' axe the pokemon, Esby!" she shouted, trying to chase after him. Chico stared on in despair. These children were going to get themselves killed. How was he supposed to protect them if they kept running off everywhere? With a shout of his own, the grass pokemon ran after his trainer, vines quickly slithering out to help her as she threatened to slip and trip a few times, catching her and righting her with only a hurried thanks from the young girl as she tried to catch up to Esben. She really didn't want him swinging that axe at any pokies....

Esben just huffed at Julie’s comment that she would just catch a Rattata to show him that he was wrong. He wanted to say that she’d probably be too scared to do so because they were definitely bigger than hear and her tiny pokemon, but that could come another day. With his attention turned to the cave and potentially locating his pokemon and all the other nuances that an adventure brought, he could hardly find the time to harass the girl much further about the topic of the rats or getting her pokemon’s name right.
He was a very short sided lad, that much was certain.
"Stop calling me that!" He snapped at her again for the nickname, face going red in agitation. How dare she continue to defile the strong warrior name that absolutely was his right to have said in full! It wasn’t that hard after all. He scoffed a bit at her talk about traps, giving her a bit of a look that kind of said ‘what are you even talking about’. "That’s not what a trap is!" He remarked loudly, stomping a foot for good measure. "That stuff just nature tryin’ ta stop you! You can avoid that! You can’t avoid traps!" Who had educated Julie that slippery rocks were a trap? They needed to be smacked.
Esben tightened his grip on his axe, giving Julie a curt look as commented that maybe it wasn’t a dragon but zowoobat. "I know what a dragon sounds like Julie!" How dare she question his mastered skills of dragon recognition! Or at least, he was pretty darn sure it was a dragon. Bird-type pokemon weren’t nearly as flappy and noisy and heavy sounding in the process. Therefore, it was absolutely evident that it was a dragon. For sure.
"You gotta axe dragons Julie or they’ll eat you!" He shouted, axe raised high as he rushed around the corner (nearly slipping on the slick ground and slamming into the wall but catching his momentum just enough not to do) and swung around with a loud roar of his own.
Isi gave a squeak, paws over his head and he cowered in a nearby corner next to a set of rocks. Flef was right beside him, chirping excitedly up at what appeared to be a bat looking creature flapping just above them, watching them out of curiously. It did, however, shift in surprise as Esben appeared shouting, which was just enough to catch it off guard as Teeg fired off a ball of energy at the distracted pokemon. It gave a loud ‘reee’ noise and tackled her in response, causing Esben to gasp. "TEEG!" He shouted. Fortunately, the Turtwig was able to shake off the startle from the attack, narrowing a look and firing at the pokemon once more. This was enough to send it spiraling back in the air and away from the crew.
"TEEG!" Esben called again, rushing over to his team and dropping to his knees before them. Isi sniffled and immediately rushed to Esben for a hug, to which the boy scooped up the bear, happy to oblige. "ISI! FLEF!" The young Viking was delighted honestly to see his pokemon were alright. Flef just chirped and wiggled, blinking and looking at Julie and Chico once they appeared and wiggling in excitement to see them as well. Lowering the Cubchoo back to the ground, Esben was grinning for a long moment before it faded in realization. "Wait… where’s Byr?" Everyone but his Teddiursa was here? That wasn’t normal.
Esben frowned, glancing around frantically. "Julie! Do you see Byr?!"

Boy, Esben sure did hate his new nickname. It seemed to really irk him, to get called a name that was close, but not quite his real name. A nickname the person knew, on some level, was definitely not his name, and not what he should be called. Which was why Julie's mature and thought out response, was to stick her tongue out and stare wide eyed while she splayed her hands by either side of her head, and wiggled her fingers at him.
Sucks, don't it?
Yes, Julie was a clever, vindictive little child. What had started as an innocent nickname -- likely, though, in response to Esben's general behavior and dismissal of names -- soon became a very intentional, low key irritant. And Esben would not be getting any satisfying victory out of this argument until he either broke her stubbornness, or called her pokemon by the right name. Which seemed difficult considering that might go against Esben's stubbornness. It was a battle of the wills. Between three nine year olds (one of whom was ten).
Julie gave Esben a more confused look, dropping her hands to her sides, when he decided that she was wrong about what traps were. She put her hands on her hips instead. "Nature can make traps too, Esby! What about quicksand? I's a trap," she tried to argue. But, Esben was, in a way, right. Maybe they could avoid the traps, if nature wasn't trying to hide them or anything. Her blue eyes lifted up to look around the area a bit, uncertain and trying to look for all the potential traps, but before she could do a proper check, Esben was running off. With his axe.
She quickly bolted to try and follow, tripping and calling after him, but he seemed pretty darn adamant to axe some pokemon, and he was pretty fast. "You gotta try battlin' 'em first, at least! S'what trainers do!" she urged, well aware Esben was, in fact, a 'warrior'. Not a trainer. But still! She was fairly sure you were supposed to battle pokemon with pokemon, not with axes. Unless there was an axe pokemon, in which case, gray area. Too grey for her tiny young mind to comprehend.
She skipped a step in surprise when she heard not only the sounds of pokemon battling up ahead, but Esben shouting, nearly falling and slipping on the slick rocks. She caught herself, though ended up with her hands on the same rocks she was standing on to do so, but looked up and more cautiously tried to bound over to catch up. She was definitely lagging behind though. Maybe there was something to Esben's warrior training? She was a pretty tough girl, but even she couldn't navigate caves this slippery without slowing down. And Esben was still flying forward to his pokemon.
She sort of missed the reunion, but she was cautiously jumping over rocks and wet spots to make her way over as Esben realized the missing pokemon from his party. She looked around, Chico trailing along a little ways behind her. "Uh uh... I don' see my pokemon neither. Esben, where d'you think they might be?" she asked, trying to move around the group to venture further in and take a look for any signs of Tria's fiery mane, "Could they be deeper in the tunnel? D'yer pokies know?" She turned back to the young boy, hands by her sides. She was glad she had Chico, it honestly reassured her a lot, but she still wanted to find everyone else. Maybe they really were on the top of this mountain....

Esben’s eye twitched as his annoyance grew. That was not his name, he didn’t know why she dared to continue to call him by anything but his name and he certainly didn’t miss the mature response of her sticking her tongue at him and splaying her hands out at the sides of her head with wiggling fingers.
"You look like a dumb pokemon who’d get eaten by a dragon!" He snapped at her in retaliation; he actually probably would’ve gone for physical confrontation if the situation wasn’t so harrowing. He had his pokemon to find and while he could definitely beat Julie up, that would prove nothing in the long run. No instead he’d just prove how much better of a warrior he was and show her that she knew nothing and that’d she’d regret getting his honorable, noble, strong name wrong!
Maybe.
If she wanted to be stubborn then that was fine! His focus was now on finding his pokemon. "I am gonna battle’em! WITH MY AXE," he shouted loudly before he’d run off to take on what he expected to be ginormous creatures of evil (as defined in his time). Geeze, Julie really didn’t get what it took to be a warrior. How else were you supposed to battle the dragons? With your fists? Sure, sure, he’d heard stories of elders in past fighting with their bare hands but neither he (much to his disappointment) nor Julie (much to his not surprise) had the strength or skill to do that.
So the axe it was.
Course Teeg took the dirty little… bat… dragon? Was it a dragon? He wasn’t quite sure, but whatever the case, she defeated the creature and earned herself some proud pats from Esben before he realized the leader of his band was not present. Julie had finally caught up and made note that her own pokemon weren’t here as well; which to be honest (not that he’d say it out loud) he didn’t quite care about in that moment, but he didn’t want to go making her upset about it.
"Maybe?" His head tilted to the side, arms folded over his chest in thought. Admittedly, the last place he’d expected his pokemon to be were in a cave. Same with Julie’s; sheep pokemon didn’t belong in caves, they belonged out in the grassy fields eating said grass! And fire ponies… well they definitely didn’t belong in a cave. Maybe. No wait they definitely didn’t unless there was a storm roaring outside and the cave was the only safe place to go. Then they could bein the cave!
He sure was thinking too much about this. So instead he scooped Flef up into his arms and then made a face, immediately thrusting the creature out at arms length. He was soaking wet! How did that happen?! "Flef what did you do?! " Esben scolded, which only earned him oblivious chirps of delight and wiggles. Right then. He turned and offered the pokemon to Julie to hold in his place, because that was absolutely the nice thing to do and not some attempt to take advantage of the fact she had nothing to better to do. Right."Here, you can hold Flef." On point with that, he turned his attention to Isi, who had taken to clinging to his pant leg. ""Isi! Where’s Byr? And the others?
The Cubchoo pulled his face away, looking up at his trainer with a doe eyed look. It would’ve been kind of gross looking is the boogie drop preputally hanging from his face has actually looked like.. Well a boogie. He looked about and settled his gaze in the direction of another passage through the cave, pointing a paw so that Esben would notice.
"Huh… there’s another part to the cave Julie!" He pointed out loudly, pride in his tone as though he’d noticed somehow on his own. "If we go that way, maybe we’ll find the others!" He couldn’t tell if the passage way lead deeper into the cave or to the outside world, but it was a way they could go that they hadn’t gone, which meant they might find the others! Byr would certainly take to exploring to find his young ward after all and thus Esben would do the same! "C’mon! Let’s go, I bet we’ll find them if we just go that way!"
