Natalia watched as Aiden replicated her gesture, but instead of a pokeball, he produced a ripe strawberry to snack on. "It's also all the more dangerous..." She murmured. Should this dream turn into a nightmare, she wasn't sure what the ramifications might be if they were hurt or trapped here. Natalia might not have had all of her memories, but she could feel the residual sting of sleepless night fits with nightmares. She wasn't keen on this lucid dream world turning into one of them.
Speaking of which, when Natalia struggled to remember why she didn't want to go to the haunted house, Nyomii quietly made the others promise not to fill in that gap. She could sympathize with Aria being a bit jealous of Natalia in being able to forget though. "Unfortunately, we have to remember in order to learn from the mistakes we made." Nyomii smiled sadly
Natalia immediately felt bad for shooting down Aiden's suggestion to go to the forest when he sheepishly agreed. Perhaps she should have been gentler? He didn't seem upset or against the suggestion of the beach instead but he did seem to feel silly for suggesting the forest after Natalia made her point. "I-I mean... I don't blame you. Forests are nice... But... Yeah." She backpedaled lamely. At least he seemed content with the idea of going to the beach, and Dag even more so once the smell of salty sea air hit them. "I imagine that it's as deep as you want it to be. Actually, that's an interesting point of order. If you want deep waters and I want shallow ones, who's reality takes place?" Natalia murmured, curious to test such a scenario.
"I don't know if I trust dream water... but someone has to keep you and Dag out of trouble." Natalia chuckled. "Let me just change into somethi—oh...." As if responding to her thoughts, her baggy clothes suddenly faded to reveal a simple ruffled white sundress underneath, and a matching sunhat appeared on her head. This wasn't quite what she'd had in mind. Or rather, she hadn't specifically been trying to conjure this particular outfit, but it came nonetheless.
Blaze, on the other hand, wrinkled her nose and inched closer to Aria, as far from the water as she could get. "Yeah, I'll pass. Don't care if it's dream water, I ain't risking it." She sniffed. Thalia seemed to have some reservations as well, but stuck close to Natalia as a response, even if that was near the water. With a soft smile, Natalia scooped the sylveon up in her arms. "Don't worry, we can test the shallows first and if you don't like it, I can carry you." She suggested.
"Certainly~" Nyomii agreed to Aria's invitation, since Natalia seemed to have filled her beach buddy position. She did want to keep an eye on the girl, but she could do so from a distance. "It would be better to watch her from a distance." She added privately to Aria, since she could mildly sense Aria's concerns mirroring her own. "She doesn't like being watched, even though she needs to be monitored. It doesn't help that she doesn't understand why, and she feels like we betray her trust when we can't trust her in return..." She commented sadly. "It's such a delicate state of mind."
Natalia was quite surprised when Aiden made to let out his other pokemon and Mogwai came already out of his pokeball. It seemed he'd gotten caught up in another section of the dream world, but he had unfortunately been in some kind of nightmare. That put Natalia on edge, since it confirmed her suspicions from earlier. Of course, Aiden didn't seem to pick up on these dangerous cues, just wanting to have fun. She supposed she couldn't blame him, but still, someone had to keep their guard up, so she supposed once again that job fell to her. Wait.... Again? She didn't really recall a time they had been in such a situation, and yet it felt... Familiar. This dynamic of him being optimistic, carefree, and positive, while she had always been suspicious and careful. Even the majority of his pokemon seemed to want to stick to the beach instead of the water. Why didn't he pick up on these subtle cues that something could be wrong? Natalia sighed lightly. Maybe she was just overreacting, but she'd rather be safe than sorry. Daguerro, much like his owner, seemed perfectly happy to rush on ahead and throw caution to the wind, but he was perhaps even worse because he had no patience. "He really can't sit still for five seconds, can he...? Let's not be quite as hasty, Thalia is still—"
s**t. She spoke too soon, and now Aiden was running off after Dag. Well, she supposed she couldn't blame him, but Natalia wasn't going to be as reckless. She followed them slowly and calmly, keeping Aiden in her sights but not rushing into the water and scaring Thalia. Instead, she waded gently in, holding the sylveon securely wile letting the pink eeveelution delicately dip her paws in. "There, what do you think? Not so bad, huh?" She asked, glancing back up to check on Aiden. Wait... Where was he? Arceus damnit. Natalia took a breath and peeked underwater while she held Thalia above water to catch a glimpse of Aiden's blonde hair following a similarly yellow electric rat of a jolteon.
She was going to give Dag a stern talking to later, because she knew Aiden wouldn't. Popping her head back up, she looked to Thalia with a sympathetic expression. "I'm sorry, we have to go after Aiden and your idiot teammate, so I'm going to take us underwater. I'll make us a bubble though, okay?" She insisted, and true to her word, they slowly sank into the water, but kept a small pocket of air around them. Natalia knew that since this was a dream, the water was probably breathable, but she didn't want Thalia to freak out as they followed swiftly after the others.
They were certainly going deep down... At this point Natalia couldn't say she was surprised by the recklessness, but when Natalia noticed that they weren't alone underwater, she became even more wary. "Aiden, look o—!" Too late, he hadn't seen the other girl and nearly slammed into her, only dodging at the last second. With a sigh of relief and irritation, she made her way down towards the other girl as the two began conversing.
Natalia couldn't help but feel a little miffed as she looked over Sable's scantily clad form. Aiden didn't seem to mind, and Natalia wasn't sure whether she was relieved or annoyed by it. Well.... He had always been the oblivious type. That didn't mean she wasn't turning green over his attention being on another girl though. She was half tempted to drag him away when Sable got caught up in the lileep, but by the time she caught up, Sable was already free and asking her serperior if he'd seen Dag. Oaken really was a beautiful pokemon. If Natalia wasn't so irritated with the girl, she would have committed his colors to memory to draw them later.
"That's quite alright. Thank you for your help, but we can take it from here." Natalia forced her polite tone out through her teeth so hard that it could have been a hiss. "We wouldn't want you to accidentally get grabbed by another lileep, now would we?" Actually she very much wished that some marine creature would snatch her away, and there was an underlying tone to her false concern that showed it. She didn't trust Sable. They find themselves in some dream world, and someone else just happens to invade it? That seemed a little too suspect for her liking.
....It definitely had nothing to do with the fact that Aiden was near another woman, who was currently wearing very little clothing. Nope.

It seemed Sable's swimsuit ended up having too much of an effect on Darren. While the redhead went off to take a dip, the male trainer was left a stammering mess on the beach. Ordinarily this would be accompanied by laughter, or perhaps some joking comments from a certain someone. But this time... Jin was mostly silent. The closest he got to his usual prodding was encouraging someone to go have fun, but his words were directed at Lily, not Darren. Indeed, it wasn't until the male trainer couldn't help but finally comment on Jin's silence that the dark type let out a soft "Hn?" and looked up from where he was sitting. A sheepish smile crossed the disguised zoroark's face as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Ah, sorry. I guess I'm just... Not up to it right now," he offered lamely before the forced smile fell away. It was soon replaced with a troubled frown as the dark type once again looked away.
For some time after that, Jin was once again silent. It didn't matter if Darren tried talking to him more or not, the dark type was quietly contemplating something. Eventually, he let out a sigh and scratched at his head behind one of his illusion's ears as he cautiously stood up. "I, uh... This is gonna be a weird question..." he started, his voice soft so that he wouldn't be overheard by anyone other than Darren. "Do we... Know each other from somewhere?" Jin's expression was wary as he studied Darren's reaction to the question, but the dark type soon realized that he could easily be misinterpreted in a way he didn't intend. "I mean... From sometime before Sable started traveling with you," he clarified, then let out another soft sigh as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. "It's just... I could swear that..." Suddenly, the disguised zoroark gripped himself tightly and muttered a quiet "Forget it," as he looked down.
While Jin was having his little one-on-one with Darren, Sable's butterfree found herself yet another opponent to test herself against. This one was an espurr, and a fairly strong one at that. Thanks to the dream world's weird effects on speed, the psychic feline was able to get in the first strike, knocking the butterfly pokemon back. Unfortunately, the butterfree also had a powerful attack, and even worse for the espurr the warping effects of the dream world meant the confusing blast of psychic energy was far more effective than it ordinarily would have been. With a single blast the psychic cat was out for the count. Normally the butterfree would have gotten someone's attention to catch the downed pokemon, but it looked like Jin was a bit busy for the moment so that would have to wait.

✦ ✦Aiden simply smiled gently as Natalia backpedaled somewhat after shooting down his idea to go to the forest, perhaps feeling that she might’ve been a touch too harsh. Even so, he wasn’t upset about it at all, they’d all agreed that the beach sounded like a great idea and that’s where they were going to go. It had been quite a long time since he’d last gotten to visit a beach, shame they had been pretty busy with taking care of other things during Tanabata on the Sevii Isles otherwise he absolutely would’ve suggested checking out the beaches there. The smell of warm, salty ocean air was a most welcome and familiar scent, Aiden had always loved the sea. It reminded him of home… Natalia did bring up an interesting idea at Dag’s inquiry of how deep the water might be here, considering this was a dream it could very well be possible that they could make the dream sea as deep or as shallow as they wanted. It could be an idea to try, surely there could be quite a few different ways they would be able to bend this strange dream world to their will aside from just summoning items with their imagination.
Aiden chuckled softly at Natalia’s suggestion of being unsure if she trusted dream water, but someone had to keep an eye out for him and Dag just in case. Just as she mentioned changing into something more suited for the beach, almost immediately her clothes disappeared and were immediately replaced by a beautifully simple sundress and a wide brimmed hat to match. While it might not have necessarily been her first choice since it seemed to happen so suddenly, Aiden had to admit that the outfit looked pretty good on her. Although… he couldn’t help but think back to that painting they’d seen in his home on Five Island of his mother in her sundress, her dark brown hair glowing a soft gold in the sunlight as she smiled warmly towards him. While Natalia was certainly different in quite a few ways, the resemblance was admittedly near spot-on… Blinking a bit, Aiden quickly looked off towards the water again as to not be caught staring for too long. ”It looks very nice,” he murmured softly, shifting his bright blue gaze momentarily back to her and flashing a small smile.
Of course, most of their Pokemon elected to stay on the beach, though Mogwai did mention possibly joining them later to swim after he’d rested for a bit. Tempting as it was to Thalia to follow the majority of her teammates, the Sylveon couldn’t help but feel curious at the same time. The sparkling waters looked quite nice, perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to at least go in for a little dip. The little Fairy type glanced up towards Natalia as the girl took her into her arms, smiling and nodding in agreement to her suggestion that they could try the shallows first and offering to carry her if she didn’t like it.”O-Okay,”she said quietly, still pretty nervous though her tail wagged somewhat happily at the idea.
Aria smiled warmly as Nyomii gladly took her up on her offer, since it seemed Natalia had someone to keep her company for now. Still, that slight feeling of unease never fully went away… Taking a deep breath and holding Seras closer to her, the Delphox conjured up some soft towels and a beach umbrella close by so they had a comfy place to park themselves and hang out for the time being. Even if it was technically dream sand and not exactly real, she didn’t want to risk it getting in her fur. She hummed and nodded in agreement at Nyomii’s suggestion that it would be better to keep watch on Natalia from a distance, seating herself on one of the towels and gently patting the other one for her Espeon friend to join her. A thoughtful frown crossed her face as she listened more to her fellow Psychic type, saying that the girl didn’t like being watched even though she did have to be monitored and that it didn’t help that she didn’t understand why and felt like they betray her trust.”It certainly is quite the slippery slope, Mimi… While not entirely insurmountable getting to the top will be far from easy,”the Delphox reciprocated, gently setting the Mareve into her lap as she crossed her legs.”I’m sure she has her reasons for why she doesn’t like being watched… What they are exactly, however, I’m not sure,”she added, tapping a long finger to her chin,”Curious as I am, I did promise her that I wouldn’t try any 'funny business' with my mind-reading, and I’m a fox of my word. Still, there must be some way we could try to convince her to at least be more cooperative with us.”✦ ✦

✦ ✦With their Pokemon more or less sorted out, Daguerro was apparently starting to get impatient as he immediately began charging up ahead towards the water in spite of Aiden’s calls for him to wait. As Natalia was cautioning them to not be so hasty, the blonde quickly said that he should go after the Jolteon so he didn’t end up getting lost and ran off after him. Thalia felt her nerves grow as she watched Aiden go up ahead, pressing herself closer against Natalia as the girl slowly and calmly carried her towards the water. She hoped her trainer and Dag stayed safe at least, there could still be all manner of dangerous things lurking around in that water… The Fairy type took a deep breath, steeling herself while Natalia waded into the shadows, keeping her hold secure while she held the Sylveon down far enough to let her at least dip her paws in. Exercising caution, Thalia reached out tentatively and pawed at the water, her pale blue eyes growing wide and her mouth forming a little ‘O’ in wonder at how cool and soothing it felt. One by one she dipped her other paws in, a happy little chirp escaping her as she slowly moved them around to try and imitate swimming, letting them splash about a little in the water below.”Y-Yes, feel nice~”she agreed softly with Natalia as her tailed wagged with a bit more energy. It didn’t seem so scary now that they were actually in the water, the sea had definitely seemed much more intimidating from a distance.
Looking back over to where Aiden was, the Sylveon’s ears perked up in alarm upon seeing he wasn’t there.”A-Aiden?”she called, casting about frantically for him. He’d been with them not too long ago… unless he went down deeper to follow after Dag? Natalia seemed to have the same idea as she dipped her head a bit further into the water to look for him, carefully holding the Fairy type above the surface. Seemed she’d found them, at least, as she came back up only seconds after, apologizing to the nervous Sylveon that they had to go after Aiden and her ‘idiot teammate’ so they had to go underwater but assuring she’d make a bubble so they could breathe easily while down there.”Okay,”she affirmed with a nod, trying to sound a bit more confident this time. She knew she could trust Natalia to keep her safe if anything, and sure enough as they slowly sank under the surface of the sea a secure bubble of air surrounded them. Taking an experimental inhale, the Sylveon’s nerves slowly eased as she looked around the deeper they went. It didn’t seem all that bad so far, it was fascinating seeing so many different colorful fish and Water types swimming around and interacting with each other. Upon spotting the enormous bed of bright coral as they caught up with Aiden, Thalia’s eyes widened in awe and curiosity. She didn’t know exactly what it was, and as tempting as it was to explore around it she felt it better to remain close to Natalia or else possibly get swept away and lost in this great big ocean.
Aiden, on the other hand, carefully swam about the coral bed as he searched among the crevices for any sign of the Jolteon. In hindsight maybe charging ahead hadn’t been such a good idea, after all he knew better than to try and outrun an Electric type of all things. But with Dag so eager to get into the fun and not wanting to wait for much longer, Aiden had just wanted to make sure he was keeping himself out of trouble. However, he had been so focused on his search that he hadn’t noticed the other trainer nearby, just barely managing to avoid crashing into her as Natalia’s distant warning call and a shout of alarm from the redheaded girl caught his attention. Apologizing profusely, Aiden quickly backed away somewhat so they were a more reasonable distance apart, though the girl didn’t seem too phased by their near collision as she assured him it was fine with an amicable smile. ”Aha, well I guess I kinda forgot the possibility that there were other people around,” he said, mirroring her bright grin with his own sheepish one, watching her curiously as she floated around him. It only just occurred to him now that his attention was fully on her that he noted the redhead was wearing a bikini, and while he didn’t find that too bothersome he kept his eyes fixed mostly on her face just in case, not wanting to come off as rude.
When he asked if she’d seen a Jolteon come by, the redhead paused as she thought it over, apologizing that she hadn’t seen any sign of Dag herself but suggesting one of her Pokemon might’ve caught sight of him. Right, she had taken a few Pokemon with her when she’d gone off into the water earlier, he recalled. When she moved to swim off to catch up with them however, Aiden frowned in concern when it seemed that she seemed to be rooted in place. Upon a closer look, it seemed the culprit was an odd anemone looking thing that had its tendrils around her foot. ”Um… Need some help?” he asked, starting to move forward to help her pry the things off. Although… upon taking a bit of a closer look and hearing the anemone thing cry out as the redhead tried to untangle herself from it, it was clear that this thing was actually a Pokemon. A Lileep to be more exact, one that seemed persistent in keeping its hold on the girl as she kept trying to pull away from it. Suddenly, a strange fish with a menagerie of bright, psychedelic colors showed up and began chewing on the Lileep’s tendrils, which only made the situation worse as the fossil Pokemon painfully tightened its hold on the redhead as it tried to bend itself away from its aggressor. Thankfully the girl managed to pull out a Pokeball, easily catching the weakened Lileep and freeing herself but angering the odd psychedelic fish as it immediately whirled around and snapped at her. Alarmed, Aiden made to reach into his bag for a Pokeball to try and capture the fish just as the girl managed to avoid getting bitten, but thankfully her Serperior swept in to save the day as it easily incapacitated the fish in one mighty strike.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Aiden smiled as the girl thanked her Serperior for the save, unable to help but admire the beautiful white, red, and gold pattern it had. Tempting as it was to whip out his sketchbook to get a quick sketch of it, they had more important things to worry about. ”Are you alright?” he asked, the Lileep’s grasp had certainly looked painful… It didn’t look like the redhead had sustained much injury if any, at least, as she easily caught the fainted fish and asked her Serperior if he’d seen a Jolteon come through. To Aiden’s relief, it seemed the grass snake at least had an idea as it swam up a bit further. ”Hopefully, yeah, if anything he’s probably digging around for treasure somewhere on the seabed nearby at least,” he said with a small smile, moving to follow after her as she in turn trailed after the Serperior, ”I really appreciate the help, though, thanks so much for that. I’m Aiden, by the way.” In hindsight it probably shouldn’t have taken this long for him to introduce himself, but they’d had other things to deal with beforehand…
By this time Natalia had finally caught up with them as the redhead commented that hopefully the missing Jolteon hadn’t gone too far, the brunette quickly interjecting that it was quite alright and that they could handle the search from here. While she was trying to sound polite it seemed very forced, and Aiden winced internally at her suggestion of them not wanting the girl to get accidentally grabbed by another Lileep. ”Well surely it couldn’t hurt to have more pairs of eyes to help search, we can cover a lot more ground that way, right?” he suggested, trying to think of how to go about this. It was clear that Natalia didn’t want the other girl around, though Aiden couldn't help feeling that she might be coming off as rather hostile towards the other. Biting his lip a bit, the blonde flashed a small apologetic smile towards the red-haired girl, somewhat uncertain of what to do but hoping to possibly avoid yet another potentially bad situation.✦ ✦

Darren couldn't help but quirk a brow when Jin suggested he wasn't feeling up to teasing. "Well now I know something's definitely wrong." Darren chuckled in good-humor. He knew Jin had his quiet moments of course, but Darren was trying (and probably failing) to cheer Jin up a little. Jin didn't even seem to hear him though, seeming to stare off into space for a little while longer, contemplating something. Darren figured maybe it was best to let the fox think things out for now. When Jin was ready, hopefully he knew he could come to him any time and talk, or... Something. At least, Darren hoped he gave that impression.
In the meantime, Darren noticed a strangely colored grimer approaching them. Was it a shiny grimer? No, though the coloration was similar to the rare grimer variant, this one had a yellow stripe around it's mouth and crystals growing out of the sludge. "Oh! I know what you are. You're an Alolan variant! Quite far from home, too." Darren muttered, scanning the grimer with his pokedex.
"Grimer the Sludge Pokémon. Brought to Alola to solve a problem with garbage, Grimer developed over time into this form. The crystals on Grimer’s body are lumps of toxins. If one falls off, lethal poisons leak out. There are a hundred or so of them living in Alola’s waste-disposal site. They’re all hard workers who eat a lot of trash. It has a passion for trash above all else, speedily digesting it and creating brilliant crystals of sparkling poison."

Darren blinked as he noticed Dianna had already knocked the grimer out, getting used to their song and dance of capturing each pokemon they came across. "Oh, thank you Dianna. I was lost in thought." He chuckled, tossing a pokeball at the grimer to catch it and send it to his PC. Only then did he hear Jin finally speak up, but what he heard the dark type ask was not quite anything he expected. Did they know each other...? Darren had certainly taken care of a few zorua at his grandfather's daycare. It was certainly a possibility, but... No. Jin's fear of needles, his aggressive protection of Sable, his above average abilities in illusions... They all pointed to one possibility, one that Darren was both relieved and afraid to witness. "It's okay." Darren offered a practiced smile in spite of the fear he felt. How would Jin react, exactly? Would he tell Sable? Would it be best to let this matter rest? "I mean, it's entirely possible. I took care of a lot of pokemon with my grandfather at the nursery, including a lot of Zorua. Maybe you came through some time?" Darren suggested, yet all he could see were test tubes and domes full of Zorua being stuck with needles and their pained yips. His body trembled ever so slightly with rage and sadness.
If Jin really was the one he tried to save, Darren was grateful he was free and safe with Sable for now. He could only hope it stayed that way. If Jin was grateful for that, then Darren was glad, but he didn't want the recognition or pity. Just seeing Jin here and free was enough, and the less Jin associated him with his memories of void, the better. "But regardless of whether we did or didn't know each other before... I'm glad we're all together now." Darren smiled, a real and warm smile before reaching out to pat the top of Jin's head. He wanted to just stay in this moment and enjoy it, an imaginary dream world where they could have days like this, enjoying a trip to the beach. It was a nice dream. At some point he knew he would have to return to reality again, but for now.... Maybe it would benefit them all to enjoy it a little longer.

Azalea could tell that Alex wasn't quite paying attention to her warning with the way he was looking right at Jasmine as if waiting for an opportunity to pet her. Maybe she should have known better, the bright colors probably attracted him to touch them like any other curious human being that didn't understand poisonous pokemon.
Similarly, he seemed to glaze over when she started describing dreams as vestigial organs. Smaller words were probably better with him. "It's something that isn't really necessary anymore, but we have it anyways." Azalea explained. She didn't really see the point of dreams. Perhaps entertainment value while sleeping? Maybe she would have liked to have dreams, especially if they were as entertaining as Alex's, but in spite of being so animated about them a moment ago, Alex seemed to deflate and admit he preferred being awake as of late. "Why's that...?" She asked. For a boy who had imagination and good taste in snacks, she couldn't think of a reason why he'd want to stop dreaming of tasty treats.
Was it because he was dreaming of people? That was normal, as Alex cheerfully insisted, so she was tempted to rule that out. Alternatively, this was all a dream and they needed to wake up. The most effective way to go about doing that was pinching, or so Azalea had heard. She tested her theory but only ended up tickling Alex it seemed. Well, even if they failed to "wake up", the fact that Alex was so ticklish was a nice new bit of information that Azalea totally wasn't going to abuse later probably. Nope.
Alex seemed pretty hyped to go to the beach. "Well you're in luck, 'cause when we wake up back in Alola, there's gonna be a ton of 'em." Azalea suggested, watching Alex bounce and cartwheel through the air with amusement. "Guess gravity doesn't apply to dreams..." She mused quietly to herself. She was certainly learning a lot about this strange phenomenon. Maybe she had misjudged dreams. They were pretty alright, she supposed. Breaking the laws of physics wasn't something you got to do every day, she just needed to figure out how Alex was doing it. After all, he was the dream veteran, so he seemed to have a better grasp on how to do things like bounce around, where as Azalea felt pretty solidly stuck to the ground.
They weren't alone as they approached the shores of the beach. Though it was mostly empty, there was another person in the distance with a few pokemon running around him. In fact, as they got closer, he looked quite familiar... "Wow... You weren't kidding Alex. Guess it is normal to see people from real life in dreams." Azalea smirked as she approached the small group and locked eyes with Darren. It brought her great pleasure to see the color drain from the researcher's face, though Azalea's blank expression didn't change. "What's up, nerd? You got those pokemon for me yet or what?" She asked nonchalantly. "Ah.... Not yet... Unfortunately I don't have control over what pokemon are attracted to the incense, and so far none of the pokemon you have requested have come to me." Darren explained meekly, but Azalea knew better. She could see right through his facade, how he could barely contain his smugness at failing such a simple request, but he knew better than to really rub that in, so he was at least trying to be cordial with her.
"But the incense isn't out yet, so there's still a chance they'll come. In the meantime, I've been so busy catching these pokemon that I haven't really had a chance to explore this area and the water type pokemon that reside here. Maybe you can keep yourself entertained with a swim and catch me some of the pokemon here? You might even find some of the pokemon you're looking for, and I'll take any other water pokemon off your hands. You know, just a little quid pro quo. It's only fair to trade me some pokemon in exchange, right?" He suggested. Azalea wanted to roll her eyes. He knew damn well that she wasn't really enthused to put work into anything, that was why she wanted HIM to catch all of her pokemon for her, but if he was going to be a complete asswipe about it... "Fine, I'll have my pokemon go look, but don't expect anything fancy. You better make this worth my while, Assbrook." She sneered, sending Iris out of her pokeball and handing her bag over to Lavender. "Go catch some water types for the good professor, if you can." She insisted. The gastly gave her a withering look, but levitated a few pokeballs out of the bag and followed after Iris as she bounded out towards the sea after what appeared to be a Mantine.

The happy moment between Darren and Jin was rudely interrupted by a terrible stench that forced Darren to cover his nose and gag. It seemed a stunky had unfortunately made its way over, attracted by the poison incense. "That smell! I-It's awful....!" Darren quickly fished for his pokedex, giving the skunk pokemon a scan.
"Stunky, the Stunk Pokémon. It protects itself by spraying a foul smelling liquid from its hindquarters which lasts for twenty-four hours. Its stench spreads over a mile radius, driving Pokémon away. If it lifts its tail and points its rear at you, beware. It's about to spray you with a fluid stinky enough to make you faint."
"Ugh.... D-dianna, please—urp!" Darren attempted to wheeze out the command but felt himself getting queezy. Thankfully, Dianna didn't need much instruction, and quickly knocked out the skunk pokemon with a fairy-dust imbued swift attack. After which, Darren quickly threw a pokeball at the pokemon just to contain the smell, but it still lingered. "Ugh.... How I would kill for a pokemon with sweet scent right about now." Darren sighed, keeping his nose covered.
Unfortunately, Darren had no such pokemon currently, but not all hope was lost. He saw two people approaching from the horizon, but as they grew closer, Darren felt his heart sink as he recognized the figures. The first was Alex, who he was happy to see, up until he saw who the boy was with."Ugh.... Speaking of stinking smells..." He grumbled under his breath. "What's up, nerd? You got those pokemon for me yet or what?" Please let this really just be a dream.... Darren looked up and prayed to Arceus. If there were ever a time to wake up, now was that time. He dealt with Azalea enough in the real world, the last thing he wanted was for her to invade his dreams as well, much less with Alex as an unwitting hostage. "Ah.... Not yet... Unfortunately I don't have control over what pokemon are attracted to the incense, and so far none of the pokemon you have requested have come to me." It wasn't a lie, but Darren was actually quite pleased to fail Azalea's little mission, because for one, it wasn't intentional, so she couldn't blame him for sabotage or being uncooperative, he just simply hadn't seen any of the pokemon she'd requested yet.
Darren watched as Azalea narrowed her eyes, just a little. She couldn't very well call him out for insubordination and she knew it. Typical pokemon exchanges were two ways, after all. A pokemon for a pokemon, right?
Reluctantly, Azalea eventually agreed, though making no promises. Calling him Assbrook was a bit uncalled for though, Darren thought with a frown. In the meantime, he turned his attention to her current traveling companion. Darren didn't want Azalea to know that he knew Alex if she didn't already know, but he also doubted Alex would be able to keep quiet once he made the connection. "Hey there, sleepyhead." Darren chuckled. Last he'd seen the kid, he'd been passed out in the pokemon center and wouldn't get up so Sable had Jin leave him a note with their contact info explaining where they went... If Alex was here, either he'd gotten up and hadn't seen the note, or he was sleeping and here in the dream world this whole time. The latter of which was a startling thought, especially with Azalea here... "H-have.... Have you been asleep this whole time? We left you a note for whenever you woke up, or did you not see?" Somehow it wouldn't surprise Darren if that were the case, Alex was a bit... Unobservant at times.

"Why's that...?" Az asked, as if it wasn't obvious. "Because you're here now," he answered simply, if with a bit of a 'duh' tone. He also didn't really like when he had dreams of home, particularly the ones where Jeffstofferson showed up to drag him back to it.
Az mentioned that Alola had a ton of beaches, which was just another reason for him to be excited to wake up. Whenever that happened. "Huh. Guess that's why my parents were always going on trips there," he said thoughtfully, arms crossed while he sailed through the air upside down.
He did, eventually, settle down when he got tired of bouncing. If anyone tells you its because he saw the beach, got distracted, and almost face planted the ground, they're a dirty liar. It was a good thing he'd stopped already though, because he might have just bounced up and forgotten to land when he saw Darren and Jin. Alex gave himself a quick pinch, because he had to be dreaming.
Alex did not pick up on the tension between Az and Darren. Or maybe he just didn't want to. It reminded him of being dragged to some fancy function with his parents, and he didn't like it. At least here he didn't have to be quiet and proper. "Wait, you guys know each other!? This is awesome! Jin! Jin, hi! I'm sorry I fell asleep for so long but I did wake up eventually and I guess that's okay then I met Az and she's really cool. Oh well I mean I know we're all asleep now which is funny also cool! How are you? You guys, I mean? Where's Sable? Is she not asleep? Are you still in Kanto? Az and I are going to Alola! There's beaches there, apparently." Alex took a breath. "Oh! You guys should meet Cup Noodle, he helped me wake up, he's super cool, let me just-" Alex started patting himself down, wiggling a bit. "-just...uhh....ahh...ha!" He slapped down, and a quiet hiss came from just above his left hip. A little snake form slithered its way up, and then Noodle was poking his head out of Alex's collar. His tongue flicked out.
Alex had, in fact, noticed the note, but he'd been running out the pokemon center to see if he could catch them, and then he ran into Az and got distracted. He'd been meaning to send them a message, but...well, he'd kind of been afraid that they'd been happy to get rid of him. "A note means the writer does not wish to see or hear you, and is simply being polite," came the unwelcome voice of his mother. He didn't wanted to call and learn they were just being polite. But now that he could see them in person, he knew he was being silly. "Ah, yeah, I guess I missed it," Alex said, mirroring Darren a bit and rubbing the back of his neck. "I ran outside in case you guys were still there, and ran right into Az! So it worked out, I guess. I woke up about a day or two ago," he added. He didn't want them to feel bad about it. He couldn't really expect them to wait around that long, after all.

Darren forced a smile as Alex grew excited about Azalea knowing him and vice versa. The young boy's excitement would have been heartwarming if Azalea weren't.... Well... Herself. It was difficult to keep track of every word that was fired from Alex's mouth at breakneck pace, but Darren smiled and nodded along as though he understood perfectly, not wanting to hurt Alex's feelings. Mostly he picked up the words "cool" and "asleep" and also that he was excited to show them his new pokemon, which was unfortunately named Cup Noodle. "Ah... Y-yes, I'm glad you're awake now. We were quite worried. I think we're doing alright... We're—" He was about to tell Alex that they were in Vermillion, but his eyes quickly shifted to Azalea and he thought better of giving an exact location. "Traveling a lot. We haven't been to Alola yet though. Maybe we should go there next and meet up with you..." Darren suggested.
When Alex admitted he'd missed the note, Darren couldn't help but chuckle a little. "That's fine. Here, why don't we exchange numbers now, that way we can better keep in touch?" He suggested, pulling up the number for his Xtransceiver so they could trade contact information. Darren felt that if Alex was with Azalea, it was imperative now more than ever to keep tabs on the boy. It was even more alarming to hear that he'd only recently woken up, because Darren didn't know if he should tell Alex just how long he'd been asleep in that case. Did Alex have a penchant for falling into comas???
While Darren reunited with old friends and enemies, Dianna continued to do her assigned work, battling every poison type pokemon that came their way. However, when the next pokemon approached, she admittedly hesitated. The strange purple pokemon came crawling on all fours and looked like it was just a baby, so she had some reservations about hurting it or attacking.
"What is that? Azalea asked, cutting into Darren's conversation with Alex to point out the pokemon. There was an unusual light in her normally dead red eyes. She had taken a clear interest in the pokemon, whatever it was. Then again, the pokemon looked like an angry diaper baby, which seemed like something Azalea would actually take interest in. Surprise surprise. "I think that's one of the new pokemon discovered in Galar.... I'm admittedly not as familiar with that region yet." Darren admitted, scanning the pokemon with his pokedex.
"Toxel, the baby Pokémon. It manipulates the chemical makeup of its poison to produce electricity and stores poison in an internal poison sac. It's voltage is weak, but it secretes poison through its skin. If you touch this Pokémon, a tingling sensation follows."
The toxel sparked faintly, staring at them with it's dark eyes. "I want it. Catch that one for me." Azalea demanded imediately. She almost seemed.... Giddy. "Really? Catch it yourself." Darren stated, annoyed. "Nah. If you want your dumb water pokemon from me, then you gotta hold up your end of this bargain. You dig?" Azalea insisted. "....Fine." Darren sighed, looking apologetically at Dianna. The sylveon slowly nodded and swiftly (no pun intended) took out the toxel so that Darren could capture it. "See? Was that so hard? Here, I'll trade you this Mantine I just caught for it." Darren gave Azalea a long-suffering look before eventually grabbing the pokeball and handing it over in exchange for the mantine. "Fine, but the next one I catch is mine." At least, he hoped he saw another one. It would be really frustrating to find a Galar pokemon here and then be forced to give it up, especially to someone like Azalea who would inevitably abuse it.

"Because you're here now." Azalea stared blankly at Alex for a moment. If she had a heart, she would have felt touched by his clear endearment, but... "Oh. Cool." She remarked, and what could have been a warm, fuzzy moment was immediately ruined by her apathy. Still, a part of her did appreciate he'd rather tag along with her than sleep. After all, she really liked to sleep, so it was a compliment to be prioritized over sleep, she just... Couldn't really express that very well.
As soon as they reached the beach, and subsequently Darren and Jin, it became quickly apparent that Alex knew Darren as he gushed about everything that had happened to him since waking up, and now falling asleep again. Darren was quite obviously nervous about Alex's choice in companions, but Azalea didn't really care. Honestly, any sensible person would be nervous, but Azalea liked Alex and thought he was both amusing and gullible, so she was happy to travel with him. Honestly, she'd tuned out most of the conversation up until she saw Darren's incense attract a cute purple pokemon in what looked like some kind of diaper. "What is that?" She blurted out. Darren didn't seem to pick up on the fact that her question was rhetorical, because it didn't matter. Whatever it was, it was going to be hers. She needed this thing. It looked like some ugly baby doll left out in radiation too long. Bags under its eyes, toxic purple, like an angry poisonous baby. If Azalea could ever experience love at first sight, this was it.
She vaguely registered what Darren had said and the annoying chirp of his pokedex before insisting "I want it. Catch that one for me." Darren wasn't usually one to give scathing looks, but man the way he looked at her after that, it was kind of funny to see him so exasperated with her. "Really? Catch it yourself." He was saying no to her? That was cute. "Nah. If you want your dumb water pokemon from me, then you gotta hold up your end of this bargain. You dig?" Azalea smirked and folded her hands behind her head, basking in the glow of Darren reluctantly conceding. "See? Was that so hard? Here, I'll trade you this Mantine I just caught for it." She offered, patting his shoulder. She would have pat his head except she couldn't reach it. Damn his height.
At least she had her very own poison diaper baby now. Azalea took the pokeball and let out her new baby, picking it up without hesitation. "Did you not just hear what the pokedex s—yeah you know what, whatever." Darren sighed as Azalea ignored him, feeling a strange numbing and tingling sensation from touching the toxel. She was like a kid with a new dolly, and she was never going to let it go. "Hmm.... What should I call you...? How 'bout Nematocyst? Yes, since you keep trying to sting me. What a good garbage baby you are Nema." Azalea cooed.
Meanwhile, Azalea's pokemon found and fought a dratini in the ocean, catching it and sending it up to Azalea. "Good job my loyal minions. Alright Darren, got another one to trade whenever you find something else interesting." Azalea waved the dratini's pokeball in one hand.

Darren couldn't help but make a face as Azalea cooed over her new pokemon. It wasn't that he didn't condone babying pokemon, but rather it was difficult for him to watch her act so... Matronly? Especially knowing who she was and what she had done. Azalea certainly had her favorite pets, successful experiments or strange fascinations/obsessions with the most noxious pokemon. He couldn't understand her twisted sort of affection, and he wasn't sure he wanted to. It was just... Wrong, and he didn't trust her to treat the pokemon she was given with the love and care they deserved.
Especially when she couldn't even pay attention to an arceus damned pokedex report. "Did you not just hear what the pokedex s—yeah you know what, whatever." Darren sighed. He didn't know why he would try to stop her from paralyzing herself. Wouldn't that be for the best? The more she endangered herself, the better, right? Ugh, no. As much as Darren hated Azalea, he couldn't really bring himself to wish harm to her. Lock her up in jail for years? Yeah, probably, but hurt or killed? No. Not even on his worst enemy. It was pathetic, really.
Darren grumbled to himself as Azalea tried to bargain with him using her recently caught dratini. "Yes yes, I'm working on it." He griped back, looking on as a Salandit approached. First thing was first, Darren recalled that Azalea had specifically requested a female, so he scanned this one with his pokedex to make sure that this one was of the correct gender.
Salandit, the Toxic Lizard Pokémon. A Poison and Fire type. Salandit lives in volcanoes and dry rocky places. They're very dangerous Pokémon that attack after releasing a sweet-smelling poisonous gas!
Yep, it looked like this one was female, so once Diana knocked it out with her swift, Darren tossed a pokeball. After capturing it, he retrieved the salandit and reluctantly traded it to Azalea for the dratini.

Maybe this whole trading gig wasn't so bad after all. At least it seemed to get Darren to shut up and stop griping so much. Then again the only reason Azalea was fine with it was because her pokemon were the ones who were really doing all the capturing and pokemon hunting. It helped that they could capture things indiscriminately, meanwhile Darren was charged with looking for the pokemon that she had specifically requested. Speaking of which, he had actually delivered on most of them. The only pokemon she was missing now was a mareanie. Actually, that was the biggest reason she'd even agreed to let her pokemon go looking around and catching other pokemon in the water—given the environment, there was a high likelihood of encountering one. Now it was a race between her pokemon and Darren to see who could find one first.
As luck would have it, her pokemon just so happened to find one before Darren. The moment Azalea took notice of her pokemon fighting the mareanie, she grew uncharacteristically intense, focused, and almost giddy, much like when she had seen the toxel that Darren had gotten her. Iris and Lavender, however, went on performing the task unaware that this was one of the pokemon that their trainer had a vested interest in, so when they brought the captured Mareanie's pokeball to her and she quickly stored it on her person rather than offering it to Darren, they seemed mildly confused. "Guess I didn't need your help any more after all, Assbrook. Thanks for the pokemon though. Give me that incense sample and I'll be on my way." She insisted, holding a hand out expectantly.
However, before Darren could respond, the surrounding area seemed to shift and blur. Or perhaps it was always blurry? Regardless, the fact of the matter was that Azalea could no longer see Darren or Alex as she slowly came to consciousness in Alola once again.

✦ ✦Aiden looked between Natalia and the redheaded girl who had offered to help him find his runaway Jolteon, unsure of what to do aside from try to reason that there wasn’t anything wrong with all of them working together. Still, it didn’t look like Natalia really trusted the other girl, though maybe her suspicions weren’t entirely unfounded since they’d been hearing about and having run ins with Void quite a bit recently… On the other hand the redhead and her Pokemon seemed friendly enough, and Aiden was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt since she could’ve easily just gone about her own business instead of offering to help. Thankfully, however, the tension was interrupted by a call from the redhead’s colorful Serperior from just above them, who might have just found where Daguerro had gone off to. ”Do you see him?” Aiden asked, turning and swimming upwards a bit more to get a better look in the direction the grass snake was indicating.
Sure enough, there, just barely visible among a tangle of coral branches several yards away was a familiar Jolteon digging away dutifully at the sandy bottom. Dag leaned forward to apparently grab at something he probably unearthed, and upon spotting Aiden and Natalia nearby the Electric type wasted no time jetting his way back over to them. The Jolteon clutched in his jaws what looked to be a flute made of blue glass, which he was happy to hand over to his trainer once he got close enough.”Hey Aiden, check it out! I found this blue instrument thingy buried under some sand!”he yipped, clearly quite proud of his find,”I mean it’s probably not actual treasure but it’s shiny, so that technically counts, right? Oh, and I found a couple more of those glitter heart things too!”In addition to the flute, the Jolteon deposited a pair of heart scales into his trainer’s hands too,”Eh? Not half bad, huh?”
Aiden blinked, finding himself unable to get a word in edgewise as the Jolteon kept excitedly chattering on until a momentary lull presented the opportunity for him to speak his piece. ”Ah, well these are very nice, bud. But you really shouldn’t just go wandering off like that, you really had me worried sick,” he chided, concern clear in his voice even as he carefully pocketed the ‘treasures’, ”What if you’d gotten lost or landed in trouble somehow? Even if this is just a dream, I just…” His voice trailed off towards the end, not wanting to even think about the possibility of losing Dag, not again… The Jolteon’s happy, proud expression morphed into guilt and worry at Aiden’s words, ears flattened as his excited posture sagged.”Ah sheesh, I really didn’t mean to make ya worry so much, Aiden. I guess I couldn’t really contain my excitement well enough, sorry about that,”Dag’s eyes were downcast apologetically, the Jolteon swimming his way closer and nuzzling against Aiden,”But hey, when was the last time we were able to just play around n’ have fun like this?”
Tangling his fingers into the familiar coarse fur, Aiden sighed softly as he gently stroked Dag. He supposed he couldn’t blame the Jolteon for being a bit overexcited, it had admittedly been quite some time since they’d last been able to let loose and just relax for once. The Tanabata felt like so long ago, time travel notwithstanding, and the last time he and Daguerro had spent quality time together as best friends had been so, so long ago. Long before everything that happened with Void, before he’d tragically lost both his best friend and his other faithful companions who’d stood by him through thick and thin, before meeting Natalia for the first time in New Bark and everything after that… ”I…” he started to speak again, but found himself unsure of what to really say. It was then that he noticed their surroundings starting to twist and blur at the edges, seeming to become more and more distant with each passing second. ”Dag? Thalia? Nat?” he called out to them, his own voice even sounding muffled and dissonant as if he was trying to talk underwater. All at once the dreamscape around them grew blurrier and eventually faded away, a sign that Aiden was now starting to wake up in real world.✦ ✦
