Default Ranks: Youth (cub) - Hunter (adol/adult)

The Standard Ranks are available for all members of the Pridelands and characters may freely change between them at any time. You do not need to ask permission before doing so.

To change your rank to a Limited or Special Rank, please fill out the form found in the Joining & Update thread.

Standard Ranks
Youth
This is the default rank for every cub or pup of the Pridelands. Much of their time is devoted to games and play, learning practical skills from their elders. Aside from their parents and family, there are a few other Pridelands a cub may interact with; nannies, storytellers, and historians. Each teaches them the basics of the pride's culture and history, as well being hunting and survival basics.

Hunter
This is the default rank for every adolescent and adult member of the Pridelands. These are Pridelanders that have made a career of providing for the pride. Their skills are so common—and needed—that all members of the pride are expected to learn the skills needed to become a hunter. Hunters will often visit with nannies, helping to teach all cubs the basics of hunting.

Nanny
Nannies are tasked with keeping an eye on the young members of the Pridelands while their parents are away on their own duties. Their tasks primarily consist of bathing, entertaining, and teaching cubs about the basics of Pridelands life.

Artisan
These are the craftsmen of the Pridelands, finding inspiration and beauty in the natural world, they strive to create. Their chosen profession is as varied as there are colors to see. Some may brush berries and find pigments to paint on rocks, trees, or pelts. Others work to perform, to sing, to dance, or create wearable fragrances. Even more, some artisans use the dexterity of their paws to work pelts, bones, gems, and more to create wearable pieces of art. These members of the pride will often barter for food or other services to better focus on their craft.

Messenger
In a pride as massive as the Pridelands, messengers are frequently called to relay information between members of the pride, or even to help facilitate a message being spread to the entire pride. Messengers are highly valued in the pride for their stamina, speed, and an excellent memory. It is actually quite common to employ hares and various avian species to assist in a messenger's duty, especially if it must be relayed to multiple individuals. Royal decrees are coordinated by the postmaster.

Healer
Despite all care being taken, accidents still occur and healers are necessary to help ensure the pride is in good health. They have spent time learning about the body and are quite knowledgeable about how to use natural materials and methods to help the body's natural recovery process. Their expertise is not limited to only injury, but disease as well.

Scout
The borders of the Pridelands are patrolled by scouts. These individuals are typically quick on their feet, with high stamina to enable them to travel great distances. Unlike guards, who they often travel ahead of, scouts are not combatants, instead, they are the eyes and ears of the pride, alerting them to trouble or intruders in the Pridelands. This is especially important after the current conflicts with the hyena pack, the Mava'Bunda. They are also usually the first ones to intercept approaching rogues that may petition to join the pride. It is becoming increasingly more common to see scouts and guards accompanied by a bird of some species to help them send reports back to Pride Rock.

Soldier (retired)
A new rank was introduced by Tau in response to the concerns of the Mava'Bunda pride. It doesn't come without controversy, as the Pridelands have always been seen as a peace-driven pride. They are used to help guard the lands in conjunction with the scouts.

Limited Ranks
Storyteller
Storytellers do precisely that, tell stories. Usually former nannies that found a knack for telling tales, these individuals usually spend their time sharing past experiences, explaining why the pride functions the way it does to the youth through grand adventures in word that often include a good moral somewhere in them. In other situations, they may tell extremely complex stories, even long epics that cannot be told in just one sitting, that draw in crowds who come to listen. Storytellers may even travel for the sake of inspiration and experience, or even to learn stories from all around the world.
Requirement: Two roleplays with the character telling a story to at least two individuals.

Historian
The history of the Pridelands is a long, storied one and historians have taken up the mantle of recalling and sharing all that they have learned with the pride. They meet the ever-growing number of new members that join the Pridelands, learning their stories and names. Most historians focus on a family, or some event, others learn about only rogues, while others record the royal family. Above all, historians must be approachable, willing to share their knowledge, and with a reputation for honesty so they may be truthful when the royal family or council calls on them for aid in recalling important aspects of the past.
Requirement: Three roleplays with the character recounting historical events to at least one other individual.

Guardian (retired)
Guardians are soldiers that have begun to develop their skills in leadership and strength. They help train newer soldiers, as well as schedule and maintain shifts for the soldiers.
Requirement: N/A

Head [Rank]
A defacto leader of their subgrouping that is tasked with organizing others under them is referred to as a 'head'. They help ensure each branch of the Pridelands runs smoothly. Some examples of their duties would be as follows.

• Head Hunters help organize hunting parties, surveying and advising on which herds are the healthiest. They maintain the flow of food, seeing that it is divided and everyone is able to eat.
• Head Scouts perform a similar role, except they help assign patrol paths and work alongside the guards to keep the peace along the borders. They often consult the royal guards, council, and royal family.
• Head Nannies help keep everyone organized as youngsters can be quite chaotic at times. They schedule field trips for the cubs, breaks for the nannies, and other extra-curricular activities for the cubs to ensure their studies are well-rounded.
• Head Healers ensure that there are enough supplies and that the injured of the pride are cared for, that their healers do not become overwhelmed. They often keep an eye out for plague or mass illness among the pride, consulting with the council and royal family about the health of the pride.
• Head Messengers help keep words by organizing and ensuring messages are making it to their desired destination, that the words are being repeated at the exact wording and that the meaning of the message did not warp in transit.
Requirement: Already the base rank. Five roleplays with the character performing their rank's task.

Special Ranks
Advisor
A member of the Pridelands council. Their appointment is determined by the royal family as their primary duty is to advise the current monarch in making decisions. These may be simple choices that affect nearly no one, or as important as how to handle major conflicts or alliances. These chosen members answer only to the royal family, often acting as intermediaries between them and the rest of the pride, bringing concerns forward. Their term is traditionally for life, but this is not guaranteed. With such an important role, it is not unheard of for a monarch to choose new advisors, different from their predecessor. Currently, there can only be 8 council members in total.
Requirement: Event Only

Ambassador
A trained diplomatic member sent to another pride to stand as the Prideland's official representative. There is the chance, mattering on the pride's size, that more than one would be sent. The pride must give the diplomat the proper title of 'ambassador' to be accepted.

Ambassadors have the power to represent the Pridelands abroad. They are expected to always act with the pride's best interests in mind and are trusted to be sent to other prides, negotiating on their behalf. They have the power to make decisions on their own, without always needing to go to royalty for approval, though in more important dealings, a member of the royal family may also be present in addition to multiple ambassadors being sent. Applications for this rank will be very carefully considered, as it would carry heavy IC weight on both prides.

Should a pride send their own representative to the Pridelands, either as a permanent or temporary show of good will, these individuals will also take the rank of ambassador, though their power is limited to only being allowed to make decisions related to their home pride's alliance with the Pridelands.
Requirement: Event Only

Champion
Champions are proven hero soldiers who have gone beyond the call of duty for their pride. This rank is unavailable at the moment.
Requirement: Event Only

Postmaster
The postmaster coordinates the relay of important messages from the royal family to the rest of the pride. They also coordinate the hares and avians used by the other messengers to send word between members of the Pridelands. They often are extremely close with the royal family, ensuring that the words are being repeated at the exact wording and that the meaning of the message did not warp.
Requirement: Event Only

Royal Ranks
Ruler of Pride Rock
The monarch of the Pridelands. Known as a King or Queen, this lion is the ruler of the Pridelands. They have no set daily duties, but an oath to the security of the Pridelands and the wellbeing of all of its inhabitants, working to ensure the Circle of Life continues. Overseeing water and food shortages, and mediating disputes between inhabitants of the Pridelands are just a few of their possible tasks.

While others may extend the offer of friendship to outsiders, it is the monarch that ultimately decides to offer their blessing and permission. Conversely, they may banish any individual or group that proves to be an enemy of the Pridelands.

Royal Consort
Consorts are mates chosen by the royal-blooded monarchs to rule at their sides. They are referred to as 'King' or 'Queen', with the addition of 'Consort' following the rank (King Consort / Queen Consort) should their mate take the same title. Historically, they were betrothed to the heir at a young age in an arranged marriage by their parents, but this tradition has lost its popularity over the years and has not been used in some time. A consort rules alongside the reigning monarch as equals, often attending council meetings. However, they more often act as a consul for personal matters within the royal family.

Heir
The crowned heir of the Pridelands is a child of the current ruler and their mate. Typically they are the eldest child, although they may be passed over in favor of siblings. It is within the monarch's right to amend the order of succession, including non-family members, or completely exclude royals from the line of succession altogether.

Leading a rather busy childhood, the heir of the Pridelands will spend the majority of their time being educated to one day rule the Pridelands. This includes lessons in history, learning how to fight, general knowledge, and survival skills. In their adolescence, the heir will often start accompanying their parents to important meetings, sitting with the council, and offering their opinion on matters.

There is a historical precedent for multiple heirs with the intention of the two of them ruling together as co-monarchs. However, a rule like this has never been actualized since Crown Princess Sarakiva and her mother, Queen Kamilika, went missing.

Children of the Monarch
All children of the ruling monarch and their mate are known as 'Prince' or 'Princess'. They will keep this rank until the heir takes their place as ruler, at which time they will become 'Lords'or 'Ladies' respectively. There isn't much real responsibility placed on this royalty, and they can essentially spend their time as they wish. However, they are still afforded a similar upbringing as the heir, often receiving a wide array of lessons in various subjects.
