For a lot of the formulas, you can actually find the components needed to craft them in something called a philosopher cache. There's different types of caches (i.e. ruby, gold, sapphire) and when you open one up, it gives you an option to choose a specific component to claim. You can buy philosopher caches from the Bifrost.
Although most formulas can be crafted via cache components, there's also some that sadly require actual avatar items to craft. At that point, I'm afraid the only way to craft it is to wait for the item to show up on the MP and buy it D=
